  • nice to see you revisiting these places

  • I hope that the person who stolen iwate sawns bike would suffer...

  • Rewatching these videos. His are such a pleasure to watch, it's almost like rediscovering what I love about Japan.

    We're lucky to have these.

    Miss you, Rodger

  • @8:51 LOLOL

  • sad that hes gone

  • @ 5:55 sounds like some merengue in the back ground

  • this guy oozed kindness

  • Greatest Video Ever... Makes me wanting to go to Japan just right know... although I should learn the language first...

  • This puts me in mind of one of the things I always really appreciated and respected about Rodger: His sense of childlike nostalgia, despite being only in his early 20s. It just seems to be a rare quality in most young adults nowadays, and I think it's great to see another "grown-up" who wasn't afraid to let the little kid in him come outside and play once in a while. R.I.P. , Swan. We miss you. :'-(

  • that place is AWESOME!!

  • oh man its torture! here in the states is common not even a cool departement store im jelous!

  • Only videos I can find that show Japan from a young travelers perspective, well done!

  • Love Rodger's excitement at his finding Petshop Boys CDs so cheap. Such a nice and sweet person. I wish he were still here. RIP my fellow Japan traveller. Perhaps we'll meet in person in the next life in our beautiful Japan.

  • chocolate mario lollipop. those things are so delicious ;w;

  • Video Ends:

    FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!!!

WHY DONT WE HAVE ANY OF THAT AWESOME STUFF!!! SO UNFAIR. WALL OF SNES GAMES. THAT IS TORTURE!!!

  • omg good thing i found you! I want to visit Japan one day and go to Ito Yakado and also go to TOKYO! Also Ito Yakado is amazing!

  • R.I.P Rodger :(

  • its a really exiting land, not like germany, its really boring here

  • NOOO DAMNIT LOVE POKEMON NOT DBZ

  • I've just known that he passed away.

This is the first video I saw of him.

I remember I felt better when watching this.

    Thank you Rodger, R.I.P.

  • Rest in peace.

  • awhh i miss shopping at ito yokado ):

  • wow, did i just hear merengue music on 5:55, thats pretty cool, merengue in japan.

  • 1:33 ha " fun song" i love this guy ! lmao

  • Like a kid in a candy store. Another great vid. You live on through your videos my friend.

  • Rock On Iwate Swan. You still are the kindest person around. Things are *Beep*ed up Man. Just wish you were still alive, its a shame that someone like you would pass away too soon =/. Your in Youtube Heaven and im sure your having a blast and everyone up there loves you as much as we do.

  • this guy is awesome

    1) loves depeche mode (awesome)

    2) listens to prince ( awesome)

    3) use to watch dbz ( what a great show back than)

    4) remembers the gundams names ( RIP my friend) someone like this doesn't deserve the fate he was given.

  • R.I.P. ):

  • gundam wing was the shit

  • Rest in the arms of peace.

  • wow dont worry Zeemis will get his shit one day! Pile of shit!

  • You are an idiot.

  • So is your mother, but you noticed I didn't call her an idiot.

  • You can attack my mother by calling her names,(even though I don't know what shes got to do with this) I can't really do anything about it. But I dont understand why you have to come to this vid and say a such cold hearted thing. Dont you have better things to do in life?

  • Nope.

  • @Zeemis

Maybe we should say that when it's your turn to go.

    Sorry that was rude.

Don't say such things about people you don't know.

  • I wouldn't care either way.

  • Alright, fine.

I would like to know the reason then. Why would you go out of your way to insult someone you don't know and upset thousands of people who admire, adore and love Rodger Swan?

  • Was it really thousands?

I'm more impressed than I was before.

  • It would only make sense that it's thousands. There are thousands of subscribers that looked foward to his videos and however many people he met over his life. It would be an interesting project for someone to count the comments people have put on his channel and videos about him. I've also noticed tribute videos to him.

If it impresses you, why the insult?

  • It impresses me that I've aroused so many angry people to comment back. You essentially are "Feeding The Troll", so-to-speak. You could just leave it at that, but if you want to know why I started trolling him in particular, it's because it was easy. I didn't watch his videos, in fact I've never even heard of him until now but lots of people seem to like him so it was easy to get a reaction. That is what trolls do, act for reaction.

I'm just your typical troll, and doing a good job.

    Good day.

  • Well, I was only angry with the first comment, so count me out of that.

How sick of you to do that to someone who is dead. (I admit this sentence is angry). How sick to upset grieving people.

  • I wouldn't have done it if I had of cared for him. If I don't even know the person, why should I care?

I don't, so I did it and am not afraid to take back it.

So, how did he die anyways?

  • In a way, it is still sick...

If you want attention, then there are more positive ways to get it...

He died of Acute Pancreatitis. I don't have anymore details if you happened to want any.

It would really be cool of you to stop, and even better of you to go take away all the awful comments on the vids. Or at least go read some of the comments on his channel.

  • How weak.

  • How interesting and amusing and sad.

This from the person who spends their time insulting and offending people for fun--I asume it's fun for you because you continue to do it.

Why weak as the word of choice?

  • It's weak that I almost submitted and did delete them.

It's weak that you'd suggest it.

  • Thank you for explaining. Interesting opinion.

Why is it weak that I'd suggest it?

I just don't want the people closest to him to see such comments on the videos he made for them when they may go back and watch those videos to console themselves or something.

    It's just too sad.

  • Submission makes you weak.

Anyone who reads these comments will understand fully whats going on and won't jump to conclusion.

  • I guess that can be the case. Give me some hours to think up an example and I'd give you one in which submission makes you stronger--and other random examples. In this case, it would show respect not weakness (if you think otherwise for this particular case, then you would be weak for caring what others think of you). In this case it would show some kindness and consideration--is that being weak?

Sorry, I don't know what you mean with people jumping to conclusions.

  • I also meant to add that submtting implies you were commanded to do something.

I just meant to ask. And doing what someone asks is more of a favor rather than submitting to someone's will.

  • Why do the good die young, it's not fair! I wish there were more nice people like him, rest in peace Swan!

  • @Zeemis

You are a very cold person. I hope you don't have experience a loved one dying.

  • i hope he does

  • sub this account!!!!! make his meme HUGE...... show our community has Unity!!!! RIP Swan...

    l.

  • man, you gotta grow that beard back. i wish i looked that good with a beard

  • SHAVE!!!!

  • I have lost my bike two times in Japan, but both of them came back. because my bike had license number. Go to police.

  • that is one noisy arcade

  • Your bike may not have been "stolen" (well it was but it could have been taken by the government).

There was a video Tokyostreettv (or his StreetEnglishtv channel) had where he filmed this government truck (like a mini garbage truck) that rolled through streets and the workers would just pickup all the bikes that weren't locked (I think they considered the bikes a public nuisance or something - ie. litter) and rolled them away somewhere.

Your bike may have been towed away, ask a cop about that

  • great videos keep it up swan :)

  • Wow.... you had a total geek moment. LOL The sad part is I geeked out with you. Thanks for making my day.

  • Whoa... are the price tags in the grocery store electronic?! I'm astounded by this.

  • Interesting how much romanji or just straight out English there is in some of the stores. I wonder why, since you're not in a major city or prime foreign tourist destination.

  • Dude.. the childrens floor is like LSD!

  • Ahhh!! They have Waldo too!!!!

  • this vid kinda clearly shows you're an otaku....LOL..:D

  • controversy

  • At 0:08, interesting to see some Shinkenger advertisement in the intro.

  • dragon ball z? how old is that candy

    great video :)

  • Waldo's in Japan? No wonder I could never find him when I was in the Dentist's waiting room...

Again (like I always say), I'm so happy for you. You've found something you really love to do in an area that is completely liveable and I'm giddy from your videos already. I know I've told you you were my Japan-senpai a couple times, but you ARE the person who got me so interested in Japanese-anything 2 years ago and now it's going to be my choice career. So thank you SO much, hontou ni.

  • I love the feel of your videos and how everything is organized. It's pro.

  • So THERE'S Waldo!

  • your bike actually got stolen? In Japan!?!

  • give it a week; The thief will return it, along with a retail fee.. ^.^

  • evangelion characters on a milk&coffee drink? that's awesome! :D

  • 6:28 ... hum, reminds me of school.

  • DAMN IT, your making me hungrey!!!

  • hmm, i'm kind of hungry now too haha.

  • Lol, im not, i just ate an early lunch, LMAO, man im coming to Japan this summer, i hope that i can swing by and talk, maybe hang out, it would be cool. By then you would know that area of Japan really good. So yeah, lets hang some time.

  • That is such a nice store! Even their $1 store is nice. Teryiaki mac burger? What's that like? Super Nintendo games! Ha! Love that. I wonder if they sell Super Nintendo's. We still have ours. :) I like how there's still Power Rangers lol.

  • oh yeah, i see boxed super nintendos running about $30 or so. It's odd, but the original NES stuff costs way more. And dreamcast stuff is dirt cheap haha.

  • Oh wow. I would expect it to be opposite. Are SNS easy to find and games? We still have our NES too haha. Dreamcast wasn't very popular was it? I do remember it but not being popular like the NES or SNS. I'm not too surprised with the NES though. It must be hard to find with it being so pricy. Only thing I can think of. :) Have you gotten your car yet? Can't wait to see what you pick out!

  • out of all the other people on youtube posting from japan you are my favorite. your vids make me feel like i'm in japan too. keep up the good work. have you tried those dorritos yet?

  • if being in japan for 6 days has taught me anything, all gaijin know DBZ and gundam wing.

It's not nerdy dude, that's how i bond with japanese people!

  • 9:34

    Electronic Dart Bord

  • omg, i would flip shit at the gundum model isle. I haven't build one of those in sooo long, i would buy the first master grade i saw and build it that night.

Enjoy yourself, and by the way, that hamburger looked gross... ask for a McGangBang! a double beef cheeseburger with a McChicken in the middle. (~2$)

  • gross food in Japan too... McDonalds has officially FAILED world-wide style

  • are you kidding? Japanese food is awesome... Also have you ever been to a McDonalds in Japan?? Clearly not. If one absolutely must go to McDonalds, the Japanese variety should certainly be top choice. Its probably the only place in the world that they care enough to actually make your order correctly and it actually resembles the picture perfectly... Ignorance is so annoying.

  • Is there such thing as bad dorritos?

  • ....not that i know of.....

  • @patio87 yes, there are .... once in Japan I bought (by accident because I didn't read the lable carefully) I bought Spare Rib Flavour Doritos.... not pleasant at all.

  • Haha! Awesome store! =O

It looked like there was so many games there... Gah!. xD

  • Mario Lollipop!!!!!1

  • Your eyes lit up when you got the CDs. it was sooo happy!!!

  • wo!!! black wii!?!!?!

  • i love how u got excited at 8:52 lol

  • Haha, Pet Shop Boys and Prince! To cool, man! Love the 80's music myself! Really into David Bowie and Ah Ha! My brother saw Tears for Fears, here in Vegas a month or so ago! Great tour of the stores! BTW, Bike theft is not as common as it is in other parts of the world... or so I thought. People are people. Good thing you had a spare.

  • I enjoyed this video. What are your impressions of Japanese merchandising. Like in frame 2:46 the product markers look like they are electronic, I cannot read all the details. Also, the "welcoming" architecture is interesting, but I can't read it in 7:23. Is this a standard style for the area, or does it stick out like a sore thumb? In the US and Europe a welcome structure is encouraged in good designs, but more minimal than this.

  • mmm scratchin dat neckbeard!

  • shaaaaavvveeeee, your still cool though, I would totally hang with you haha.

  • every time i see your video in the subscription box i always see "irate swan"

maybe if you're felling that way you should title it like that.

oh, and the video was great. that game store you went to, is it a chain? or just a local thing in hanamaki

  • wow all is awesome in japan :) all shipping too.

  • Sucks about the bike, looking forward to seeing your car though, I remember when Jason made some videos while driving around Japan, you should try something similar! Don't forget to lock your car : P

  • Lol neon genesis coffee?

  • I want to live there and DREAMCAST RULES!!!!!!

  • that they normally sell old SNES stuff, this is cool indeed

  • Wow! So many cool stuffs... and they still have those old anime stuffs like Dragon Ball Z and Gundam Wing.

Very cool video. Thanks for that!

  • japanese where's waldo! man i havnt seen a where's waldo book in forever awesome store!

  • I wish i lived in japan cause thats awesome.

  • Nice 5/5.

  • getting hype at the end there haha good to see u found a store u like

  • Wow. I want to go to Japanese stores, too.

  • Lol that hat...

  • haha my favorite hat (the only one I will wear).

  • awesome store and the store you went to is a geekdom paradise XD not like akiba but close enough anyways swan nice vid XD XD

  • Excellent video swan, when I saw those SNES games my jaw fell off.

  • haha, i think you found otaku mecca... were there gaijin bowing outside of it??

  • What are you doing there in Japan?? Cool Vid!

  • i work as an english language teacher in three high schools.

  • I remember all the various toys and figures in the convince stores.

  • man I llove these videos about Japan!!!

  • that super nintendo wall... omg lol *fans self* my nerdy little kid self is coming out x]

i can hardly find those games anymore around here lol =[.

    love your vids =]

  • I think I could seriously spend all day in the last store you filmed. It looked so cool!

  • kewl, new black Wii!.....only in Japan. v_v

  • LOL. This is like Daiei, but with less floors. Awesome video. Makes me wish I never left.

Your also awesome because you also like my favorite burger. OMG sexy.

  • they need a store like that in the states..

  • we need teryaki flavpred chips here :D

  • why mcdonalds when there are so much good japanese food in japan :(

  • ^_^ keep smiling

  • Sorry about your bike, but yaaay cars! I was watching this episode with my dad and he was drooling over those Gundam models. Wish we were there.

  • That's awesome man, i kinda know how you felt when you were in that wicked store towards the end, i bet you are gonna visit it quite a bit !!

Dreamcast games u gotta get :

Shenmue and Street fighter 3 third strike !!!

You have ur dreamcast with you over there ?

  • yup i bought a dreamcast from that store at the end of the video. i have shenmue and sf 3rd strike back home. i did buy king of fighters 2000 the other day though lol.

  • Awesome video!

  • Holy crap, that manga section is larger than life, so is that wall of super nintendo games. I really wish I could live in Japan.

  • man another new video thanks awesome

  • Are you sure it was stolen? Sometimes they drive around in trucks and take away all the bikes "illegally parked" if that makes any sense x.x And you can get it back but you have to pay a fee...

  • naw, i asked and it was parked legally. i've since heard that though the town is safe, the station has a reputation for having stolen bikes.

  • amazing I'm so shocked that the manga collection is that huge

  • I think it would be cool to see if any american culture has seeped in that place. How it's there and what they think about it. Ask some friends you know about what they think about the United States and put it up. I would like to know how we are percieved up in the boondocks of japan.

  • I do not recall seeing Teriyaki Doritos back in the States... :p

  • I'm amazed at how many SNES games that store has. Here in the States it's rare to see games that old in a store.

  • Many DBZ because of Dragon Ball kai? I work at Walmart here in the States. I thought that place was big but OMG!! Arcade, Manga, Anime on food items etc.. That is my otaku heaven. Sadly I have never seen Teriyaki Doritos. Great ep!

  • I know you must get asked this alot, And I love these videos too, but. When are you continuing the horror reviews

  • no plans to start them up again anytime soon. making these videos and a full time teaching job is about the extent of what i can do right now. however, i wouldn't be shocked if they were to continue again at a later date.

  • you left your bike without locking it? Abit of a silly thing to do, is'nt it?

  • in japan, people dont steal stuff like they do in the USA..

  • Oh man... That wall of SNES games made me smile haha! Wish I lived near a store that had all those old games.

  • yeah pretty sweet huh? though i have no idea how to get to the games at the top, and there's no ladder or anything that will reach up there....lol

  • Ha, very sweet. A store just recently popped up near where I live in Michigan and they have a nice rack or two of all NES/SNES games. I still wish I had walls to pick from though lol

  • Amazing!! I wish I was there!

  • 8:43

    paper m-flo. lulz

  • mmm, Teriyaki Doritos :-)'

  • That last store you were in seemed really neat! Would spend lots of time just browsing there! :p

  • interesting hat choice

  • You Rock Man.

  • Dudee!

I Wanna Go There Sooo Bad Now! D8

    It Looks Soo Awesome T.T

  • Bicycles and umbrellas are the only two things you have to worry about getting stolen in Japan.

  • I FOUND WALLY!

and wow, you actually got something stolen in Japan? that's really rare, even StreetEnglish showed how you can leave a motorbike with keys in and nobody touches it all day (in a city too)..maybe just your luck? lol jk

ps: i thought you said you trimmed the bloody beard???

  • haha this video was filmed before the shaving. as was the next actually.

  • Are you really allowed to be filming inside stores?

Aah, you actually got something stolen. I've heard umbrellas and bikes are the two things you will loose in Japan.

  • Very cool episode as always!

  • i'm really pining for all of the snacks in japan. i think japan made me a junk food junkie! plus, i really appreciated that i could be manga almost anywhere for really cheap.

mister swan, did anyone ever tell you that you're super かわいい?w!

  • good god, i meant BUY. not BE, BUY!

//be manga.. ahaha... that was creepy. I AM MANGA HAR HAR HAR

  • hahaha i kind of laughed at that sentence, not gonna lie :)

but yes the snacks are great! i try to buy a new one each week to try out haha.

  • Thanks so much for uploading those vids they are Great !

  • dude these videos are awesome i can't wait to go to japan !

  • How hard was it for you to learn Japanese? I WANT TO GO TO JAPAN!!!

  • hehe.... to see the joy in you're eyes.. was kind of funny

  • Northern main island has all kinds of cool places like these ALLLLLll over the place! I love it there!

  • Waldo's in Japan, I win.

Also, What is the relative expense of things in japan, in the sense of the value of a yen? Would 100 Yen for them be a about the same as 1 U.S. Dollar for us, or 2000 Yen be about 20.00 U.S. Dollars? Almost as if you just took the period out of the equation? When I was younger I always thought Japanese stuff was just crazy expensive, but then I applied said logic to it and have always been a little unsure, but I have never had a chance to ask someone who knows.

  • right now $1 equals about 91 yen. So I normally just think 100 yen equals a dollar as that is pretty easy to remember, but in reality it is a little bit different. So right now, if I were to send money home, I would actually be making some money in the progress.

  • You were nerdgasming in that store, haha.

  • i have never seen those doritos here in my state

  • an all black wii i want it!!!

  • I just watched the rest. Nevermind.

  • thinking of doing a full blown manga episode later on. There are some huge manga stores up here actually.....

  • If they have anything comparable to either Gamers or Animates level of win in Iwate, then it must be done.

  • I've been to the animates store in morioka. smaller than the ones in akiba obviously, but still nice.

  • You should made one where you go to a Komiket. Or like a manga store. Do they have that stuff in Iwate?
