  • I really enjoyed watching some of your vlogs. I an slightly hard of hearing and currently learning ASL in college. I have been exposed as a child to my parents signing because, back then my mother was also interested and taught my dad. I picked up the language quick and enjoying the moments where I can communicate without the use of spoken word. it's is an awesome thing to think about. I hope you will post more vlog they are really something else :)

  • Deafheads instead of Deadheads? LOL

  • How's about "Deafheads" instead of "Deadheads" Chuckled.....

  • Very impressive, MyHappyHands! I like your attitude towards your job.. Keep it up!!!

  • Good for you Krista... I Love your expressions and how you explain things with a sense of life. Love it... I love to choose my own Lable too. I want to be interpreter, but we live too far from college and I can't afford to drive, now I'm afraid I am getting too old. BUT I love language. I would love to learn 5 languages b4 I die.

  • No idea on how to answer your quest for a label but it made me giggle because my partner wanted a label too. I call her a POD-Person LOL. Partner of a Deaf Person.

  • this is my first year speaking asl and some time i have no idea what your say but i love to watch you any lol... You need to have a TV show!!!! =]

  • i thought you had a deaf sister so maybe "silbing of deaf adult" SODA?

  • my name is shae. we already met. did u? i bet you remmy me from assembly. i know your mom. she is soo awesome as you are. and also ur dad...he is the best. they gave me soo joy. wow. im soo happy that i met u and ur family and their family too. hope we can keep in touch each other. and also i hope i can come over and hang out with you and ur parents. they are the best people ever i met in my whole life.

  • soo how about ur label um "Child of Adult interpreters" haha idk CODI i just make up for ur label :-D

  • hahaha..um to me it means artsic

  • You mean my sign name? Yes, it is "K" for artistic AND for Dance too.... both. I got it when I was a little kid.... :P

  • you know i had an idea for ur sign name...

  • wow Kristina... at first i thought u were deaf or a coda, but ur a COHI... ur signs are beautiful. of course i am deaf and proud mysaelf!!! nice meeting you!!!

  • Wowie! you got a Deaf heart that came out from your hearing mom/dad. That's cool and new to me. Thanks for sharing.. I love to watch you.. U funny in some ways that is a good medicine for me to laugh :) Thats what I like the kind of people like you. I wish there are more out there. :)

Thanks for making my evening. :)

  • WOW! (Drools)! I am deaf too heheheeee I am honestly with you!

  • Just a thought to those who liked the idea of ASL-an/ ASLers or something - it is good but it is not global-correct i.e. a NZ child born to NZ Hearing Interpreters cannot call themselves ASLers can they? :D So - that's why I like the COHI label.

  • Wow - I am finding this quite fascinating - I have never knowingly met a person who grew up with parents who are interpreters. I originally thought about COIA but I like the COHI (i.e. makes more sense). I am a Deaf person myself and I can understand the need for "labels". It is a good way to belong to a group / community and do not have to explain in depth... i.e. I'm a COHI. Enough said :D

"Interpreter" is not much of a personal label but more of a job - IMHO.

    Great first vlog! :)

  • You get it completely!!! "Interpreter" is a job, not a way of life.

  • How about..

    FELGUICOD

"Funny Exaggerant Lady Grew Up In Community Of Deaf"? :)

Seriously though...my .02...I do like COHI, but just give it some though...

CODC "Child of Deaf Community"...I think it kinda fits the you you seem to have grown up.

  • ajjajajaa cool que chistoso ejjeje ok

  • I really like this one! That's good thing ya got involve with deaf people to get more interesting. You Rock! :D

    Josh

  • Oh one more:

you're a COHI. Child of hearing interpreters. of COHF Child of hearing family, but that's 90% of us anyway...and who really want to be known as a COHF (cough) eh.

  • Labels are about categorization and also identity. So why do you really want to be categorized in Deaf world more specifically? Nothing wrong with labels like "interpreter" or "hearing" -- my mother is a hearing interpreter & doesn't need label like PODA (parent of Deaf adult) to define her. You seem like many terps who need Deaf community more than we need you. I mean no offence, just being straight up. Feel free to message me direct, happy to discuss more! Your ASL good but over the top IMHO.

  • There really isn't a short response I can come up with that will convey who I am and why I say what I say in this short comment area.

It's tough for vloggers since we put a small piece of ourselves "out there" for the world to see and judge without even knowing us personally.

I don't NEED the Deaf community, nor do I want the Deaf community to NEED me.

I simply enjoy interacting with and learning about PEOPLE. (no matter the label)

    (TBC:)

  • My own personal experience in the local Deaf Community is that "labels" are paramount to identity (as you previosly stated) since these labels are used as SELF-identification. It shows others who you CHOOSE to be rather than letting others decide who you are.

That's why I was asking for more "labels" to give everyone the beutiful choice to SELF-IDENTIFY rather than being a victim of stereotyping.

  • From what I have view your speech! I have tried to make something sense of what label on your naturalization ASL is like ummmm.....ASL 11 or ASL 2 or (~~ASL~~) LOL

  • Wow! I thought you were deaf growing up in mainstream schools. I made mistake. It's often, not always, easy to tell whether people in fluency ASL are deaf or hearing, because I can see whether they have inner voice or "inner sign" and some other factors. Hmmm. How about GUIDW (Grow Up In Deaf World)?

  • I love it!!!

GUIDW -- how would you pronounce it?? :P

    Gweedow?

  • Sorry, I thought you knew I was deaf. It seems like gweedow is a good and easy pronouncation? How about gwee-dew? I'm glad you love it.

  • What about IOHA ? Interpret of hearing adult.

  • wow interesting i am really impressed with your asl !!! I am approve of COHI since I am deaf lol and I was surprised that your parent are interpreter also thought it was interesting and new to me that I never thought of anyone who grew up in COHI!!!!

  • Ah, now I know you much better, I was thought you were a Coda. I am with hoeyhemp, Asler or aslan, those new words are still up in the air issue.

  • OH! Very interesting background! I'm an interpreter with NO childhood bckgrnd and am so jealous! :-) Also, I have 3 kids that I've brought to MANY deaf events, but my husband not a signer, and that makes a big difference. Lucky you! My fav is stories too, and I'll be watching for yours!

  • COIA is a great idea! Im curious you at home? when grow up u sign or speak with your parents?

  • Actually, we signed ALOT at home even though we all were hearing. And when we were out with the Deaf Community, we ended up signing to communicate, as well.... I loved it!

  • how about COIA?! (Child of Interrupter Adult) cuz u told that ur parents and families are interrupter so i just pop up of an idea lol XD!

  • My mom call me last night and said "What about COHI?? Child of Hearing Interpreter?" I like that one best, but I can't adopt label myself until Deaf approve..... anybody want to approve me use that ??? COHI?? :D

  • lol cohi isnt bad at all but i just got idea in pop up cuz like this CODA child of deaf adult so change to coia instead deaf lol cuz that u mention about ur families has many interrupter :D but up to yall :P btw nice to you^^; i like ur personal of interpreter cuz u said that u like be tough interpreter and more be like deaf instead be plain while interpreter lol i have several interpreter friends like that while they were interpretering

  • i was like more imporess cuz sometime its make bored..like in lecture class or etc i always notice interpreter always more like plain and make me feel bored lol i'd like all interpreter can do like more deaf view instead plain u know what i mean? lol tcare XD!

  • I gotta tell you this your signing is soooooo beauitful NO JOKE!

  • no label? umm how about ASLER"S? : )

  • First of all, WELCOME TO YOUR FIRST VLOG!!! CONGRATS!! :-)

GOOD QUESTION about the label like you... Maybe it should called like Children or Child of Interpreter Adults (COIA).. Hmm it doesnt sound kool! I want something like KOOL name or label!

It's good to see your face and your action with ASL again!! I miss you!!!!!

  • WOW that's really impressive... in fact your signing language is MUCH better than mine hehe

What your label should be?? It's pretty hard :) But I can think of one it's sort of funny... Deaf-hag?

  • I totally agree with you. You and I, though different in how we came to the deaf world, have no label. Let's make our own :)
