We're all raised with certain "truths" drilled into us. Many of them are implied. We're taught to trust out justice system and our government. Some of us can accept that we have been lied to and face the truth and the resulting fear. For many, the flack you get for trying to spread the truth is too much.

During that time, there was a Classical economics approach to the problem with no intervention in the markets or in helping the banks. A financial crisis eventually effected the Real economy. So, no intervention lead to a depression, which means you have it backwards.

Geithner was talking about the rationale for the bailout. The quesition that they had to ask themselves was the following: what would we be willing to pay in order to avoid the depression which lasted 10 years and a 25% unemployment rate? We know the answer.
Has it worked? It depends on how you measure things of course. Mainly though, we will have to wait and see.
Pegging the dollar to precious metals doesn't make things more stable. The fluctuation of gold was crazy in the 70s.

The ten year and 25% unemployment references are known statistics about the 1930s depression. During that time, there was a Classical economics approach to the problem with no intervention in the markets or in helping the banks. A financial crisis eventually effected the Real economy. So, no intervention lead to a depression, which means you have it backwards.
The currency value is based on supply and demand. Backing it with a commodity is not necessary.

Doing nothing is believed to have created the ten year depression. Whether a depression has to happen is probably debatable. What isn't in question is that a similar situation caused ten years of misery.

i like most of what he said. america only cares about the middle east because of our oil ineterest. however, saddam invading kuwait and bin laden bombing americans and other innocent people in the middle east and africa was no lie. I don't remember Bush saying America was invading Iraq because of 9/11. I do know that Saddam wasn't cooperating with inspectors for years. Bush claims to have had bad intel saying that there were WMD's. I'm not naive he could have lied about the intel. Saddam could have moved them to syria(just a thought). Yes, the media also told us that John McCain had "honor" (see Time magazine's hideous cover puff peace on him from, I believe, 7/08) and that Sara Palin was just a sassy, red-white-and-blue soccer mom, just like the rest of us, and the Joe the Plumber spoke for "little guys" like us. All in all, the GOP campaign last year was the most condescending, moribund political spectacle in recent memory. People voted for Obama in droves not because they were told to, but because the GOP wrecked the US.

I have to agree that 911 was used for IRAQ. We could not afford IRAQ and borrow money from China, kind of like in Viet Nam we had to come off the gold standard it cost so much, or we printed so much money. You have some good points, I just think we need to look beyond Bush to the Federal Reserve Act, as the false low interest rates caused a great deal of problems for the nation too. hmm. Just because a democratic candidate won doesn't mean that it wasn't rigged - that party is as corrupt as the republicans. What seems to be rigged is that these two parties constantly win and they solve none of our problems judging from their track record. On the good side, it's a nice blow against racism, but there will be little real change from aggressive foreign policy that both parties have displayed in 20th century; and we will likely still be oil dependent in 2012/16.
