in everything, the first one is always the best. Kelly was the first american idol and i don't think any of the other idols have reached her level. as being the first, she set an example for the others who were yet to become idols. if Kelly wasn't this famous and daring to take risks, i don't think any idol would have. ans seeing Kelly this successful makes others want to be too... that is the reason american idol is so successful

It's Kelly for me. Carrie is an OK country singer but Kelly can sing anything from pop, r&b, rock, jazz,country & blues. She's amazing live too.

Uh. of course Kelly is more popular worldwide. She sings pop music. There is a universal market for the type of music she sings. Country is pretty much relegated to the states. & Carrie doesn't even promote outside of the US, whereas Kelly does entire tours overseas. She sang, "I Surrender" and "Think Twice," by Celine Dion. She sang "Without You" by Mariah Carey by judge request in the top 3 and she also sang, "Respect" and "Natural Woman" by Aretha Franklin. OH and she also sang "Walk On By," by Dionne Warwick (Whitney's cousin and still a very famous and honored singer.) I think Kelly took on tougher songs during Idol then Carrie did but they are both phenomenal singers

Well, that's not exactly true. Country is pretty hot where I am. And Carrie does have a HUGE fanbase in SouthEast Asia. Just recently, she came to Singapore to promote her new album. The crowd was HUGE!

I do love Kelly, and I do agree that she is more popular worldwide because her GENRE of music is more popular. That's all..

Vocally, I won't pit them against each other coz to ME they're both AWESOME!! (especially if you compare them to the likes of Taylor Swift)
