  • Hey I have the planet waves humidifier and I was wondering, is it going to mess up the strings somewhat because its stretching it out?

  • Nice, simple, friendly advice - keep it up, Doug!

  • We need to humidify year round if we use an air conditioner in the summer. It is June right now and in my house it is 76 degrees and the humidity is 33%. It needs to be 50%. If the humidity goes over 50% I take them out, but many people don't realize that the humidity can get pretty low in the summer if your AC is on. Just food for thought.

  • how offten do you want to do this

  • When guitar is dry the strings are lower not higher.

  • Doug,

Thanks for making a video about guitar humidifiers. I just recently purchased myself a Gibson J-200 Standard (brand new) and I'm extremely paranoid about the humidity and temperature. I got one of those Oasis Guitar Humidifiers, what are your thoughts on those ones? They run for $20 roughly. Also what about the temperature? If I were to have a instrument room at what temperature and humidity should the room be at?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hello, quick q. does this hold true to electric guitars as well? Any info on how to control the humidity in that situation would be appreciated. Also, if one isn't playing an electric guitar, how should they store it? Thanks.

  • what if it's an electroacoustic?

  • distilled water, can we just use tap?

im planning on purchasing a Taylor and am new to the whole guitar humidifer so im trying to find information because i do want to take care of it.

  • Wow, just bought myself an Epiphone AJ-220S and although I know its nothing special I still paid hard earned money on it. I didn't know about this humidity issue until I read up on it when searching about solid tops. Thanks for the tip.

  • Hello, would you recommend the Planet Wave for Taylors?

  • @blahhxblah Yes, I would…The Planet Wave is my humidifier of choice. -Doug

  • @WestMusicCompany thanks Doug!

  • Hey dude,

I'v got that same planet waves humidifier but I leave it in my guitar when it's on it's stand... do I have to put it back in the case?

  • @GamerFreak186 I think it is best to have the guitar in its case whenever you are not playing it. The humidifier will work much more efficiently if the guitar is kept in the case. -- Doug

  • @WestMusicCompany Thanks man :)

  • Hey doug, how long would you recommend I leave the humidifier in the case for?

  • I recommend keeping your humidifier in any time you are not playing the guitar, especially this time of year when the furnaces are running. Also, a friendly reminder...always have your guitar in its case when you are not playing it. Keep rockin along!!

  • Doug I bought a hygrometer and I have it in my guitar case. It reads my humididty at 35% . I read somewhere it should be between 40-45%. I have a humidifier in my guitar but I cant get the level up on my meter. what are your thoughts? I just purchase a Taylor 615ce and I don't want to wreck it.

  • If you use a sound hole humidifier, you might want to try using one the Damp-It style humidifiers by simply laying it in the case under the headstock of your guitar in addition to the one you have in the sound hole. Be sure and use a towel to wipe off any excess water, and lay a small towel under it to protect your case. Be sure you store the guitar nowhere near a heat as this will contribute to drying some, even though the case is closed. Sounds like you are fighting the good fight!!

  • hey man i have a question and i figure you know since you take care of your guitar. i just bought a taylor dn4 acoustic its a solid wood guitar but.. i need to know what to use to humidify it and measure the humidity in my case. i have looked at several hygrometers online and none of them have good reviews what do you do man? to measure the perfect humidity in your case??? please help me as soon as you can cause i need to order something thanks man!

  • I've switched to Planet Waves GH guitar humidifier this year. They're around $13 to $15 bucks. Planet Waves makes the PW-HTS Humidity and Temperature Sensor for your case for $39 to $49. This is a precision hygrometer that indicates accurate relative humidity levels ranging from low (under 20%) to 99%. You can also get this as part of a set with the Guitar Humidifier previously mentioned (PW-GH-HTS) usually for around $50 bucks. In the winter check your guitar several times a week! Doug

  • i have a martin oooc-16gte and it cracked down the mohogany side for about 9 inches. :( now i got a planet waves in there, but is it bad to rehumidify it if its cracked?

  • Thanks Doug! I will strongly consider that!

  • I would continue to humidify the guitar if for no other reason than to keep the crack from spreading. Also, if you have an experienced luthier in your area, you can get the crack reinforced so that it wont continue to spread. I am glad you are using the Planet Wave humidifier as it does a very thorough job. You own an extremely nice guitar, so I would explore getting the crack professionally reinforced
