  • That sounds truly amazing! I love and play Dan Fogelburg and John Denver's music more than any other, and seldom think a cover has captured the feel and spirit of a song. But you have the best playing and singing Fogelburg cover I've ever heard. If you love it, ya really gotta put your all in it and see what you can do with it. You truly have hit the Nail on the head ;) Looking forward to listening to your others, thank you so much.

  • @teddylchasejr Kind of you to say. I don't have the passion to play that I did in my youth. Something in me just died years ago, but awakened for a while when Dan died. Maybe it will come back...I hope so.

  • @TheLastNail I know how you feel in a way, when I was a teenager and first started playing I played guitar for 8 or 10+ hours a day regularly... Which I guess is too much but it is definitely the way to REALLY learn to play naturally. Once you get busy with other things the passion starts fading and you get discouraged with it. What I have done is to make myself pick up the guitar for at least one song a day, and thats even made a huge difference. Just don't give up yet, it hasn't died.

  • @teddylchasejr Thanks. I played some today...Dan and I both like Neil Young, I was working on 'Don't Let it Bring You Down', a rather powerful song. One observation I concur with is that we are at our genius maximum at age 23, when we have the most powerful brain, biologically. Both Neil and Dan did things in their early 20 that were unbelievable...

  • Thanks, I of course agree. I wish I could play more like me too--me 30 years ago. Hard to find the time to practice. I haven't played this song since I posted it. Got one of my originals going up soon though. Can't find my camera...

  • Great Cover!!! Dan was one of the best song writer poets of our time... wish i could play like you

  • His best on so many levels! For some reason I always put this album on in the fall. It calls to me too. Thanks!

  • The strength of this song lays in the lyrics' ability to capture choices made, forgotten paths, and the what if's anyone with a full life has faced, looking back.

Given the powerful, clear intensity of Dan's voice, coupled with a simple clean guitar, I could see why he might consider the album version over produced. Kind of like what happened to John Lennon's ''Across the Universe"

  • Thanks,

Gotta keep the embers glowing. What little cognizance the mainstream music culture has of Dan is largely gone. The enlightened one's have to pass the torch to a generation that is as deviated from the music we loved as we were from our parent's music. But we finally could see the genius of the Gershwins and the like, so maybe something as fine as Fogelberg's study of the heart and soul of man. Maybe they'll know the pursuit of the constant in the chaos and the fulcrum in the void.

  • Great cover!!!

  • Perhaps from the line:

All I ever wanted to be was free

All I ever looked for was what was within my eyes to see. But I don't know. I think there was always an element of demise hiding 'neath the murky banks of long forgotten streams as a thread that runs below much of his work--as though he was aware of his untimely departure...

  • Love it!! It's one of my favorite's from Captured Angel. You are very gifted! Love the tone of your voice with this one!

I still can't believe that this is the one album that DF said, is not his favorite, because of the way it was produced!

Still can't figure out why Capt.Angel has no eyes?? May be blind to the truth?

  • "Still can't figure out why Capt.Angel has no eyes?? " The gift of vision is what sets you free.

  • Funny, now I know you quite well! I wish he did redo this album. Really fine songs but not with the usual Dan polish.

  • Thanks so much for reposting this song We all lost something hard to explain but easy to feel and its great to see dans memory alive and well in times like these. Its hard to pick a favorite but if ihad to .... thanks again Later bc Happy Holidays

  • There's always someone that you just never get over, but both know it's time to move on. It was that time, years ago. On the eve of my moving, the man I had been seeing cupped my cheek in his hand, laid his thumb against my lips to silence my awkward explanations, sadly looked me in the eyes, then played this song to me. Every time I hear it, this song still brings back that bittersweet night. Your rendition is so very similar to the one in my memory. So honest and true. Thanks for reposting.
