  • Ego is when you have to do something important but dont really want to do it doesnt has something important its just an asshole except that fag ^ (4 years and 7 thumbs up...)

  • Only when someone is enlightened are they fit to work out the salvation of others, for they themselves have achieved salvation. It is ego, that is the problem on Earth not God. Believe me God is doing all he can to get rid of the world ego (Ego is the disharmonious aspect of creation).

  • Enlightenment is the death of the ego, so whatever tends to get rid of self/ego is to be encouraged. Selfless service should be part of any spiritual practice. You should start with volunteer work, not some nameless faceless spiritual organization. Listen to yourself to decide where best to serve.

  • Ego is the lower self, the carnal self. There is self, Self and SELF (personality, soul and God). The goal of the guru is to get rid of the ego, or the personal self and unite with the Universal SELF. The ego is things like hatred, lust, gossip, slander, iniquity, anger etc. everything that is connected with the lower or personal self. The nature of self is selfishness, so we need to be selfless.

  • very good... what you say thrully supports the idea of realising one's self from the extarnal sufferings of this world. it helps for people that place true love for one's self and life at stake. thank you.

  • he teaches beautiful and patience and does not seem to take challenging questions as a personal insult to him like many supposed spiritual teachers

  • He should know...

  • Kid looks like jon4lakers

  • Andrew I find to be quite lovely. Why is everyone so mean to him? He may not flow like some doing self-enquiry because he may not be practicing self enquiry! There are other paths.

  • "just finished leading an eight day intensive"?

This narc could not lead anything save a 70's porn star reunion

  • Narcissism is the infatuation with an image, that you fail to

    realize,is yourself!

I think to talk about the effect of the ego, without stating

clearly what the ego is and where it's located, seems

not quite to explain the phenonoma. The ego, is

an 'entity'! As long as you deal with the effects,

you don't defeat it's bad effects. The ego, can live,

in the activity of the righteous, the ego, can entrap

a wise man, a devoted 'priest' probably easier

than a fool! Watch your back!

  • This is hardly articulate; he's just running around in circles, poorly explaining himself and not actually giving a substantial explanation of what the ego really is. I don't think Andrew Cohen has transcended his own egohe's really absorbed by it. You can see that he's spiritually constipated through his difficulty to explain himself fluently. His best friend Ken Wilber is a genius, but this guy sounds more like an amatuer (with a big list of abuse allegations) who needs to go back to school.

  • Ego is the illusion of being a separate being in a shared reality.

  • Self-confidence is only an attribute of the ego if the ego uses it to put other people down and feel better than other people. If self-confidence is used to tow other people along it is part of the spirit.

Indeed, any characteristic of the individual is an attribute of the ego if the ego uses it to negatively impact or regard other people; if it is used to positively affect other people, it is part of the (divine) spirit.

The former segregates the latter harmonizes.

  • this man is talking in circles, yes some of what he states are correct, though his manner n attitude are just phony.

  • Andrew seems to be describing himself when he defines the ego!

  • I believe that the ego is not an entity unto itself, meaning that it can be broken down into a couple components. For one, whether we believe something that people tell us is completely up to the individual. You could have ten people tell you that you're stupid, but the task of deciding whether or not something is relevant is completely up to the individual. The person could think, well all these people don't mean anything they're just being nice..Culture+perspective= ego

  • egoisim they always having insult way of treating others.

  • What is ego? The will to recieve.

  • 2 Timothy 3:1-5 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

  • The "last days" have been upon us for a long time; even before that passage was written. Fear is spiritual/emotional cancer. Get over it!!

  • What he addresses at 4:44 is also directly addressed (in an interchange with a specific person) in "Ego is a Closed Loop." Per Cohen:

"When the ego becomes interested in spiritual development - and ethical development - it can use spiritural practices and ideas as a way to entertain itself, and also create a sense of virtue... but it's all still within the ego's loop..." "Ego can use anything as a way to remain in control. Even the idea of its own destruction."

  • but you see you are life..you dont need an ego to experience yourself

  • EGO SUCKS!

EGO IS NOT HUMAN! FUCK EGO!

  • you dont need to fuck it cause it cant touch you..even if it wanted too.. Just let it do its thing..your just not entertained.

  • He is a 'neo freudian'.

Freud's view of the id was always negative, whereas neo freudians such as Jung, Klein & Horney plus Cohen believe that the id is a sorce of positive influence.

Therefore the ego's defences against the id or super-ego are at best unnecessary, and at worst very damaging/harmful to self actualisation or spiritual growth.

  • Andrew does an absolutely amazing job of defining a major problem of humans. donsdigitaldig: I think that you have different definitions although the core concept talked about in this clip seem to be the same thing you mention.

  • yes, because no advancements or adjustments to psychological theories have been made in the last 100 years.

while we're at it, we should start calling cars "horseless carriages" again.

  • so basicly how you present yourself to society?

  • isnt ur ego what drives you to do good for others, like for example if some1 asks for a peice of paper, and u hand them one

agh.. okay let me put it this way, im only 15 and im basicly just now getting into phychology and my outlook on ego so far is your social image; how people see you

  • or froid's outlook on the ego

where a kid wants a cookie, but his ego is telling him that he is gona get hurt by getting it, so he doenst do it

  • He doesn't even know what ego is... Its much more complex, much more beautiful in its intrinsic nature, than the narcisism of self and self love. Experience itself is ego. Lose the sway of your own experience, become one with everyone. Simple.

  • Teachings are not exactly right though much of the process is right. Ego is to be healed, enlarged, resolved, not left, done away with in any sense. Narcissism is the love our or smallness. As we emerge, our ego expanded, that love of self grows and we then see the connection and likeness in others. Ego always remains and must conform to reality, an expanded selfishness that embraces others.

  • Very well said!

  • ego is an adolesents right of way (passage) without ego there is no further spiritual development. without the ego we would not have some of the amasing inventions we experience today also if you say ego has dark sides you would be expressing youre truth...Acquiring enlightenment, unlike acquiring knowledge, is not a straightforward trek. Sometimes progress means moving in a direction that is something other than becoming more spiritual.

  • @6available9 Ego can live perfectly within spiritual

development. As long as it is in control, it will

seem to be your servant, and allow you to

    pursue 'truth' & 'wisdom'.

"Those who know, don't talk, those who talk,

    don't know'!

  • Wow! I love how he articulate he is in this one!

  • I enjoyed it there alot, Andrew is a very wise man, if you never heard of him please check out his other videos, ITS WORTH IT!
