  • This is one of the sweatest song.

I dreamt and saw my future through this song in old days.

  • I know i'm gonna get 10 thumbs downs for this... but why does this song sound so wimpy to me?? I love Topaz and She Brakes for Rainbows, which are similar to Deadbeat Club, but have that B-52s "edge." I don't know. Maybe I just have keep listening to it.

  • Martha Quinn at 1:01

  • Martha Quinn at 4:48

  • Out of all the great B-52's songs and music videos, "Deadbeat Club" is my favorite.

  • great moments that i remember with this song.

  • Wow...hadn't seen this video in ages. Forgot hot stunning Kate looked in it. The pseudo 50's polka dot hair scarf (babushka??) and that sultry smile, perfect model material. She was about 40 at the time of the video too! And Cindy with those soulful eyes. Glad to see this video posted!

  • I love this song i had to buy this album over and over . This band rocks!

  • Every once in a while, I'll blast this song from my computer speakers at work when the yappers a few cubes over start their noisy chit chatting (which can last two hours non-stop!). It usually gets them to move their lousy conversation over to another area. :)

  • that is kate driving.. i would know i live in athens and i have met kate

  • I don't think Gordon Ramsey in this video but the memebers of REM are.

  • LOOK-the B52's in a chanel commercial photgraphed by herb ritts!! lol-anyways i love the b's.

  • Was That Gordon Ramsay at 0:59 ??

  • its Keith Strickland their gutarist

  • I don't know if they are the best group ever, but i put them in my alltime top ten. Probably the most unique band out there. Also, according to their bios, all of them are musicians. Of course back in the 70s and 80s most bands were complete bands. Nowdays, many bands are living off of one or two people. This album was, at least for me, release at a good moment in my life.

  • does anyone notice the head of REM at 1:21 ??? Athens Georgia. I've always loved this song. Makes me so so sentimental for my time in high school.

  • Yeah, Cindy's a classic southern beauty with those moon eyes.

Actually, they all look fantastic and the video really gave me a glimpse into who they were--back when it first came out.

    Best group ever!

  • love love love love this song! and the vid too, makes me wanna be there with them, love the retro- stylish look in all the vid! great B-52's!!!

  • i have always wondered who the guy is at 1.19 he has amazing eyes

  • You know what this is just to damn good! You end up listening to it over and over again. It's so addicting! It never gets old! Each time you listen to it it gets better and better.

  • whoa cindy looks really pretty in this video. kate's dancing amuses me but in a good way.

  • I love the fact that this is considered their serious side!!!

  • I don't know why, but this song makes me wanna dance in torn sheets in the rain.hhmmm

  • B-52's baby!!!! One of my all-time faves...A more serious side of the band...

  • I love "Deadbeat Club", my personal fave from the band. I love the harmonies and the lyrics - the band looking back on their beginnings.

  • I don't know what some of you are talking about....."Deadbeat Club" is my FAVORITE B-52's song and video.

  • Sure its not the most party of their tunes, but I am glad they didn't do JUST that. This is just a pop song, and damned if they didn't do it well.

  • This is by far one of their best songs ever. It's amazing!

  • Just my opinion, but this is the best B-52s song ever....

  • Great song from the B52's. It makes you realise that there is a God and there is hope for humanity.

  • This is a terrific song from an album full of terrific pop songs and I don't mean to sound disparaging by calling it pop, but "Cosmic Thing" is about as perfect as pop gets. Kate and Cindy's voices were never better than on this album.

  • Just my opinion, but this is the worst B-52s song ever.... Topaz, a similar tune from the same album, is a wonderful song.

  • Ironically this song starts to play after our Stones-cover band is leaving the stage!!!

    I just love this song!!!!!

  • I agree that Topaz is a masterpiece and was not properly marketed but we fans like it. The first time I heard Deadbeat Club I hated it, specially after being hooked to "Roam" but afterwards I liked it.. a lot. I think they have far worst songs than this one... like "Junebug" for example. LOL

  • Love the B-52s.. but, to me, Deadbeat Club is not one of their better tunes... which ironically, was 1 of their 3 top 40 hits. Topaz, which is a similar tune from the same album, is a terrific song. But it wasn't released for reason.

  • what a beautiful girls ....love you, whatever you are

  • Does anybody have a live concert video of "Deadbeat Club" to post on youtube?

  • Great video. Beautiful women, great harmony, catchy song. The video is like one big happy party.

  • Love Kates expression at 0:05

  • She looks so stunning driving in that convertible. Such an eclectic look throughout the video.

  • HA! So that WAS Michael Stipes!!!! I thought I saw him. GOTTA LOVE REM and B52's!

  • Lindo recuerdo de cuando te conoci..Te amo

  • Que lindo recuerdo..AMORCITO, te Amo

  • Esta cancion me trae recuerdos de cuando te conocí..Mi vida, tanto tiempo¡¡¡¡

  • I LOVE this band!!!! I remeber when Cosmic Thing came out-- those were the days-- i had my own "deadbeat club"-- awesome memories

  • Best American Band Ever...

  • I think Kate pearson is sooo hot I fucking loved her.

  • I fell in love with this song when I went on a road trip in early 1990 to Athens with a friend who was attending the wedding of a friend in the music scene there. The song is filled with references to stuff in the town. For instance, "Normaltown" refers to suburban Athens, which is demarcated by the local K-Mart (assuming it is still even there). Allen's was the local watering hole and apparently beer is just a buck now nearly 20 years later. Mike Stipe of REM also makes a cameo here.

  • Allen's finally closed down maybe 3 or 4 years ago :(

  • The west side K-Mart is a Hobby Lobby now and the east side K-mart is still around, but that whole area is really expanding, so it could go at any time. The old Allen's is gone but they changed locations. Gonna miss the christmas lights downtown this year, later days Athens.

  • i know he's gay, but fred is so damn cute here!

  • God these guys rule...however active or inactive.

  • I really love this song...

I cannot understand why people don't like it... My friends say that this song and video are really boring, and that the band sucks :(.

    What perfect lyrics, I say.

What a great melody, I feel it...

I would like having been a teenager when this band originated.

  • You need some new friends, sounds like to me.

  • Kate looks her best in this video.

  • I'm a member of the deadbeat club, Cleveland chapter.

I spend my days eating donuts and listening to you tube of course.

  • Kate will be 60? Wow,i just saw their new video Funplex on VH1Classic and she looks fantastic!

  • A truly great song.

And, a cameo by Michael Stipe!

  • Cada vez me enamoro mas de este grupazo!!!

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!

  • Is it me or does Fred have a Michael Madsen thing going on in this video?

Tarantino should have put him in Reservoirs Dogs...

  • I was thinking more like pagliacci in the bonfire scenes. And Cyndy too. I love the shot of her at 4:23. Stunning.

  • One of my favorite songs and videos by the Athens, GA New Wave legends. I always look at this and see that they must have had such a nice time with the folks there. I wanna go down there and get some of those good vibes. There's a very big communion between all those great Athens bands like The B-52's, R.E.M. Pylon, etc. It's unlike where I'm at in NYC where all the bands are competitive.

  • Yes, it is Shaxan. Good eye!

  • Both Keith and Fred are extremely handsome in this video. =)

  • was it Stipe at 0:49?

  • yes

  • hmm, I would tend to think yes

  • I love this song...I wonder how Kate and Cindy sing those high notes?

  • We'll dance in the garden in torn sheets in the rain

  • This is one of my fav videos form them cause it's so simple. So beautiful in black and white.I do agree with you Keith is so YUMMY in this video.Saw them in May and my god Keith is stunning!

  • I love Kate's 'man about the house' HAIR!!!

  • Cindy is so incerdibly hot in this vid! Mmm-mmm good!

  • Even without the video, the song rocks. The last great song of the 80s - maybe. What a fantastic musical decade.

    '80s music was bearable.'

    Edward Cullen, Twilight.

  • Fantastic styling I think. The Jill St. John hair on Kate, the Edie Sedgwick makeup on the ravishing Cindy... Was this filmed at Kate's motel?

  • No this was filmed in Athens, GA circa 1990. Kate didn't open the hotel until at least 10 years later.

  • LOL!

    haha

  • cindy wilson's eyes are huge in this video, but beautiful!!!

  • Yeah that's chuck stipe b4 he went homo

  • Keith: you never looked more beautiful, or sexy than you did in this video.. I close my eyes and just dream of wrapping my arms around your neck, and slow-dancing 3 or 4 steps with you... I'd be the happiest man alive!

  • have you seen him lately? Smoking hot!

  • yes.. as a matter of fact, I saw him 2 weeks ago in Atlantic City. They all looked great!

  • Is that Michael Stipe at 1:21? I know REM are from Georgia too, so maybe? Peace :)

  • wow my mom always plays 80's stuff and i dont know many people my age who like B-52's cept my bff/sister.

  • they still look hot after all these years...WOW

  • Yippeeee for me!!! I just bought tickets for their show in Memphis this fall!!! There is not a group out there that has brought me more smiles than the B-52's!

  • I'm going to see them in London in July and can't wait!

PS. Have you heard their new album yet - it is excellent - the B52's are back to their very best!

  • the drumming is excellent on this album

  • i like the part where kate sticks out her tongue

    :)

    haha

  • GREAT SONG. Video different somehow than how I imagine the song but great.

  • To me the best B52s song

  • god cindy looks good in that black wig and fake fur.

  • What a great song! Everything about it just is excellent. Certainly it is in my top 3 favorite b-52 tunes. Kate is smokin' hot!

  • A fabulous track: beautiful harmonies; great lyrics and the video really compliments it. I never really could understand why Love Shack was the single from the album and not this. One of the best songs the B52s ever did.

  • definantly my fave!!!!

  • This is my favorite too. :)

  • Mine too!! Tho I've got a def soft spot for: Roam, Planet Claire and Private Idaho. I would mention their breakthrough track-Rock Lobster also, but I've heard it a few too many times-Haha. Peace :)

  • There were 3 singles from 'Cosmic Thing': "Love Shack", "Roam", and "Deadbeat Club", which hit No. 3, 3, and 30 on the Billboard chart respectively. A fourth single, the title track, was considered but ultmately didn't come out.

  • I can't believe that Love Shack only made it no. 3. It was SO huge when it came out. Not that no. 3 is something to sneeze at. That's just an expression.

  • Good song reminds me friends and times when i was fuckin' free!!! and younger of course!!!

  • great

  • great retro vid

  • Organic tear blazing black and white through drooling neigborhoods lends itself a classic break beat tune that keeps spilling over and over into resplendant joy.

  • I love this song, this is a best goup of all the times

  • Just saw them live - I finally got to meet Keith and I got to kiss him on the cheek- he was like Elvis to me when I was a kid- They sounded great!

  • Kate and Cindy have the most harmonious voices ever produced in the 80's...I love Roam and Deadbeat Club so much because of the perfect blend of these girls' talents. Fred is also great, B-52's won't be complete without his wacky and carefree-sounding tones. They mixed effectively with the girls'. Wish I can travel back to the 80's back to the good ol' times. Love ya and miss you guys!!

  • Kate has an Excellent Voice!

  • favorite band, favorite song, favorite vid.

  • i luv thgis song because it just reminds me of good times..

i love cindy and her wigs!! especially her voice!!

kates funny.. she looks drunk the whole time lol..

    i love them all!

  • Anyone have a live vid of this song by this band?

  • amazing song!!!!

  • Great song from a great album! One of the best albums (pop wise) to come out the 80's. The girls have amazing voices.

  • If it possible to have an ear-orgasm this song gives me one. The girls harmonizing make soem of the nicest sound I've ever heard.

"Let's go crash that party down in Normaltown tonight! Then we'll go skinny-dipping in the moonlight."

  • cool song. they annoy me tho

  • I'd kind of have to agree.

  • great song

  • one of my favorites from B52's....=)

  • Wonderful song - this reminds me of carefree living in Greece with friends. I love that line - we'll dance in the garden in torn sheets in the rain. Everyones got a story.

  • i worked at kfc as a late teen and listened to this song in the back with my co-workers. we were the deadbeat club!

  • They could have made a better video for this song showing clips of their early days. It looks like some perfume commercial. Even the wigs are too high fashion looking.I love em still though.Hope they have a hit with the new cd which is GREAT!!

  • They always wore really high wigs....

  • Love the harmonies here. The song's oddly pretty, sad and kitschy all a the same time.

  • Well put. Fantastic vocal harmonies is right. I think my favorite is the blend on that line from 1:05-1:08 (& whenever it repeats). Then I love the sudden unison on "rain" (at 1:22, and later).

  • Kitschy? Come one. What's kitschy about this song? It's late 80's contemporary. Is the word "contemporary" verboten in your circle or something? Are you afraid to embrace what is not cool?

  • My father died a few years ago after going downhill for years. We were all worn out with work and worry, but it was hardest on my mother. We had some consolation for our grief, that he was no longer sick and she was no longer overwhelmed.

The day after his funeral I went for a relaxing, refreshing drive along the coast. This was the song I played on the car tape player.

    RIP Dad. I love you.

  • OMG thanx for sharing it love your story, i mean its sad but its so ahhh i dont know how to say it but thanx for sharing it

  • i love it!!!

  • They are not bitches they are women. Kate Pierson will be 60 in May of this year and Cindy just turned 51 !

  • those bitches can sing and still look good at 50!!

  • My friend used to work in radio in Athens GA

and really went to Allen's for 25 cent beers. Even in '96 when I finally made it to town it was still a cool place to be even if my pal

was long gone to "MinnySoda" by then.

  • This song gives me a tingly spine. Reminds me of being a kid.

  • Love Cindy in the brown wig.

  • you rock

  • Cindy's got the soul voice, baby.

  • 3.54 and keith just looks so dreamy lol

  • this reminds of the cover of the "goo" album from sonic youth dunno why...

  • If you look quickly and don't blink Michael Stipe is there at .47-.48

  • Sure looks like him! Athens music scene, so why not?

  • It's him. They're all friends, from their post-college days in Athens, GA.

  • I LOVE THE B52S!!!

  • All this love Kate but not praise for Cindy? She's just as talented and beautiful.

  • I love Kate and all of 'em!...They were the best concerts of my life!!!

  • i adore this song im so excited to see them back

  • The hippest people on planet earth. Look no further.

  • No so called Diva can touch Kate! She can kick Britney's ass!

  • The B-52s are so fucking hip that

if they stepped out of this video and on to the streets of any major city, showed up at any bangin' club, they'd still be WAY cooler than anyone around.

  • Any vids around of this song being done live?

  • 2:07-2:09 I love seeing Kate in the convertible. She is so HOT!!!!!

  • I heard "Funplex" on the radio this morning. It was great. Look out world, they may do it again...

  • so awesome

  • wow... haven't heard this in years...

  • I love this song/video!

  • best song they ever did!everybody seems to be havin a good time.you cant beat that two part harmony!!!!!!!1

  • They were mellowing in their old age...but still totally unique, a sound like no other! Memories....ah....how sweet!

  • Lovely song, with or without the video. I'll always remember remember Cindy lying on the couch and singing to us.

  • Hey that was Michael Stipe in the video right

  • Yes. They are all friends from Athens, Georgia.

  • i saw them in concert when i was lik 8 and dude i use to dance in front of the mirror and lip sinc and dance to their songs from cosmic thing.

    they are my childhood

  • Sorry to intrude on your life but I used to do the same thing to the first two albums. Yes, I said albums and yes I'm old but I also had a great mirror in my room too. I WAS FRED!! My sisters were Kate and Cindy when I could convience them. Where are they now as I still dance around the house?

  • Together with "Roam" the best Song on the album "Cosmic Thing"! I love this harmonic vocals!

  • I,m trying to think.

  • no other group can harmonize like this one

  • martinzambrano,

I like this song a lot, but I beg to differ. The Beach Boys harmonized better than the B-52's.

  • No way man! In this whole world, there is no better harmonies than the ones of The B-52's! Kate and Cindy ROCKS♥

  • Great song, but Fred Schneider kind of kills it sticking his head out of that convertible and uttering "Deadbeat Club" like a bi-polar on some mood stabilizer drug.

Check out "Girl From Ipanema Goes To Greenland".....their best song and video in my opinion!

  • I think it's actually Fred and Keith in unison saying that.

Of course the whole idea of the song is about sticking out like a sore thumb, just like Fred is doing in his 20-seat Chrysler. ;-)

  • It adds contrast.

  • HAHA man its so funny the way you say it!

I agree, Girl From Ipanema is such a great song!

I love the mini kate with her red wig smiling and bouncing in the clouds. It makes me laugh so much!

  • I think Cindy looks the hottest.

  • there is the singer of R.e.m

  • Too bad their most famous song is 'Love Shack'. This one is so much better.

  • this is boring love shack is waaaaaay better
