for the different people different things are difficult to play. everybody is different. this theme & variations is very difficult to play because of the high tones you play connected with the low ones, and the higher tones needs to be soft as the lower tones, this is the most difficult thing here. arpeggios and staccatto and chromatic not a big problem. everybody can play it, but a few can play perfect and smooth. I like how you play, good luck and you are 19 years old? good luck
you're clearly not a clarinetist. Some of the bits involving jumps of nearly two octaves in the space of a semiquaver and going over the break and back again is very difficult!
I am a clarinetist as a matter of fact, though I no longer keep myself up to snuff. I played this piece when I was 16 and a Junior in high school as a part of my auditions for university -- which awarded me a few offers of scholarships.
yea his tone is a bit boring in the slow section but overall his technicality is amazing. if thats his strong area i dont blame him for really showing that off
Well-played, but Neidich is better. Though Haveli plays Variation 3 a bit faster then Neidich, note that he's slurring the runs. And Variation 5 is considerably slower.
Hahahaha... This is stating the obvious. Other than Martin Frost & Alessandro Carbonare, Neidich is way above and beyond *anyone* that has ever performed or recorded this piece, musically and technicall. And this guy is clearly amateur in comparison. So why on earth did you bother using Neidich as a reference?? That's like trying to compare the piano playing of Martha Argerich to Alicia Keys. OF COURSE Martha can do it better. Duh!
This is well played and everything almost perfect. But as with Charles Neidich recording of this piece that's all. There is just nothing interesting going on I could barely get through it without falling asleep.
Well as I said it's very well played but his tone is a bit boring and I would like more colors in his tone. The trick is to let it sound easy and lyrical and not like a mechanical study. Just listen to John McCaw play the Nielsen concert with the Philharmonia Orchestra. He practice the staccato places for about 2 hours per day for a year(he is very bad with staccato) yet it's the most lyrical version of that concerto I've ever heard.
Halevi's tone has darkened considerably since this was recorded. I much prefer this to Mr. Neidich's playing. Far more musical and human--and I, for one, don't miss the rotary breathing! The orchestra is first rate--just not much for them to do!
Very good performance! Slightly too fast IMO, but thats only because the first recording I heard of this and still love today is a bit slower. My first experience with a piece of music usually remains my favorite. Otherwise it was magnificent! I have no problem with the orchestra, the conductor was visibly moved by the performance, so saying the orchs. sucks, only makes you look sour!
yo tengo 20 y no le llego ni a los talones.. voy a tener que estudiar :s es un groso

I know this piece from a recording with Bohuslav Zahradnik, who was one of the best clarinette players in the world in the 80's.
Technically very good. The tone is not perfectly clear, but something has to be sacrificed to the deadly tempo. I like the cadenza.

The arpeggios are much harder to articulate than the downwards scale. Just sayin
sitobazito 2 years ago
no, and most versions have the arpeggios on leggato.
Vanamutt 2 years ago
he's cheating! he's not staccato-ing the arpeggios!!! ;)
KenKeppel 2 years ago
but he is tonguing the downward scale at 138+ so suck it!

I actually think that playing Variation 3 that quickly causes it to lose a little musicality.

I'd give anything to be able to play this ...

It's not a terribly challenging piece. Pretty basic as far as key is concerned, mostly just chromatic scales.
