Every 2-3 minutes the waves was this high. About 90-100ft on my estimation. We was lucky that the waves was comming from the aft because from the head, the ship will have get many dammage.
I was apprentice (cadet) at this time and it was my first atlantic crossing. I never saw again such wave fortunately. I recorded this video at 10h00 morning time but the storm was bigger in the following night.
Sorry boys, this vid was made from a big solid cargo ship. Thx for posting, buddy.
Would you please try to imagine how it must feel if you´re on a 30-40 ft. sailing-yacht at the same time in this area...all sailors think about that, please...
My father used to tell me about waves like that. My imagination was not enogh to understand what they could have looked like. Now I know... thank you for this video.
WHERE was this in the North Atlantic. I love the ocean and miss it. Used to live in Marblehead Ma. "Marblehead Forever" as my name states, used to sing it every morning at Coffin School. Please give us more ocean videos. The ocean is a powerful monster.
Excellent footage....some of the biggest waves I have ever seen. I too didn't think that vlcc's would heave like that, so I have learned something from this. Thanks.

it's an exaggeration when u wrote that the waves reached 30m ..
because 30 meters mean tsunami !!
and u saw the waves higher than the ship's bridge because of the ships ship's inclinations..
7amanyation 1 year ago
@7amanyation just because its 30m it doesnt make it a tsunami, do your homework on tsunamis ya plonker

I have my biggest respect to Vikings who sailed in storms like this in their flimsy wooden boats.

Goofus5453 1 year ago
He is not outside, he is on the Bridge, inside. No one is allowed outside in weather like that. Just so you will know.

Good grief. We don't give the sailors of the 16th and 17th century enough credit for having to put up with this.

You wouldn't think a VLCC would heave and pitch that much even in a high sea state, but I guess they do.
