You can see a sudden propulsion wake behind the gil about 4 seconds before impact. Either the pilot was attempting to maneuver away under forward power or he was ensuring a collision. Either decision was a poor one. Captain of Shonen Maru 2 is a respected and professional mariner... I won't draw comparisons on that aspect, but considering the historical and ongoing behavior of the SS conservation society I think intent is a legitimate issue. Waste of money beginning and end, poor boat.

@blargarph There actually wasn't anyone driving the Ady Gil at all. They were all on deck and the Ady Gil was not moving on it's own. The Yushon Maru rammed the Ady Gil. Plan and simple.

If they are not under power they still move. I cannot see this 30 ft of wake you are talking about. If anything, at the last second it went under power causing the 5ft-10ft of wake that you are seeing. Which just means they were trying a last ditch effort at getting out of the way
