When ever you think of Africa The facts are right in your face. In school we were told that Africa was a rich and powerful nation that dealt with problems themselves,but The Europeans came and raped all the land making it ruined and they split the countries causing Civil war. It ain't our fault. I don't feel I owe them anthing. Sure, I do contribute to charities, but it seems we're dubbed as "evil" and should bend over backwards for them.

I do pity the poor in Africa and Asia, but the thing is - there's nothing your average (insert any First World country here) Citizen can do to help them.

Millions go to charity each year, but it seems nothing gets done with it. I've even heard they give charity money to dictators/corrupt politicians, from an African immigrant, who spend the money on either themselves or military hardware. (Those AK's won't buy themselves, y'know <_<)

Food, Clean Water, Education. Education could solve most of Africa's problems in two to three generations. Africa is a beautiful continent with plentiful natural resources and an abundance of agricultural land. Stop Government corruption!! Educate the people! Expand tribal "pride" to national pride and give the people hope. Education will turn out to be the key to the whole problem, but it will take generations to repair the centuries of ignorance and destruction... There truly is HOPE!

For thousands of years we haven't had the means to make a difference to the life of someone on the other side of the world. Poverty is not caused by evolution. It does have causes, though: unfair trade, poor leadership, greed, climate, viruses and diseases. We do not always have control over these causes, but we do have the power to alleviate them.

Mother nature does not choose who will be fed and who will starve. Mother nature can feed us all - but only if we look beyond our immediate selves.

Pointless are these deaths that occur daily, unnecessarily, and without notice. Pointless is us ignoring these issues and sitting idly be while people are dying. And pointless is coming to terms with some notion that we can't make a difference - as your comment suggests.
