Acualy what turned civilans against the actions in Vietnam was the reporters and camra men who would film what was going on in the hospitals. My US History teacher has a story about how one of his class mates watched her brother die on tv.

Protesting had been going on since at least 1965 and this song wasn't even recorded until '69. Don't blame the music because the feelings have to be there before the song can be writen.

I first heard this song on the radio when I was like 5 or 6 years old when it was released. Our family lived in Florida and my dad was in the military during that era. Obviously, I was too young to understand about the war in Vietnam and also all of the protests against it that were going on. But this is a neat song with a strong message. As I got older, I learned there were many different perspectives and theories about the war and everyone had one opinion or another. Nevertheless, a neat song.
