  • sweet sleeveless

  • First time I've heard this guy. Instant fan. Thank you.

  • This is true music.

  • מדהים ....

  • That's the most head banging I've ever seen while picking a violin. Andrew Byrd is incredible.

  • He whistles like only an angel could. Go my little canary, whistle my darling.

  • "what a lovely sound" indeed Mr. Bird.

  • @beninatorskater Angels don't whistle, they hum. Frankly, Andrew has surpassed godliness with whistling.

  • Andy Bird and Martin Dosh were made for each other

  • What a musical genius

  • A true genius at work. I like it when he moves his head up and down.. <3

  • love the whistling solo and how happy he looks during the guitar solo

  • I wish I had a direct feed from Andrew Bird's brain into my own.

    I am ecstatic !!!

  • that guitar solo is somehow charming.

  • Very nice,he is great!

  • Very nice

  • <3

  • martin dosh. what a champ.

  • I for one am glad to live in the same world as this musician.

Thanks Andrew for your amazing writing and multi-instrumental talents. You are a modern-day Mozart.

  • @kizik09 wouldn't go as far as saying Mozart. But he is most certainly extremely talented.

  • @kizik09 No, Andy, you are not a "modern-day Mozart", but you are one dirrty dog. Glad you're around.

  • this is one of my favorites :)

  • this guy is so crazy talented he makes me feel sorry for anyone else who calls themselves a musician

  • He has the most badass theremin sounding whistle!

  • You know what i've always wanted?

A collaboration between bird and chris thile. Their vocals and styles would be absolutely perfect together... Imagine the vocal harmonies! And the song writing and arrangement would be out of this world...

  • @chessmeister that's an interested thought.

  • @chessmeister that's an interesting thought.

  • the violin adds a beautiful touch to his music..... always loved artists who incorporate it

  • getting laid for him must be more of a chore than an opportunity. damn

  • the drummer's name is Martin Dosh? impressive drumming using the organ, very creative, they soung great together

  • @joemoma516 Yeah, martin dosh. He's an extremely talented drummer, really tight, and really creative.

  • HE'S SO SKINNY

  • wow =)

  • God, I wish I could have been there.

  • ya drummer really fills in the energy for the live set. wow violin is really appealing all of a sudden. loving the violin out of a classical sense and into this experimental usage. ROCKINTRIGUE

  • wow, the drummer i s truly amazing. he really works

  • what an incredible sound!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mesmerizing!!!

  • damn shnazy

  • "Please enjoy yourselves at all costs."

    Man, I love this guy.

  • a true freak (: frequency is still alive people. ((incredible sensation))

  • I hear lots of Bowie influence. He's an 80s kid...

  • Hes soooo goood!!!! i love his music, geez!!!!

but his little guitar solo, needs a tiny work hah, but still amazing

  • This show would be a good reason to build a time machine.

  • Oh, you're music. It makes other music look dull. But that's just me :)

  • incredibly unique.

  • PURE TALENT!!

  • check out my andrew bird cover on my page!!!!!

  • I'm seriously addicted to him. So weird since I've never met him but I can't stop listening to his music. lol

  • I'm in LOVE. ;)

  • @qtpieresse DOUBLE dat!

  • such an amazing musician!

  • He looks kinda skeletal.

  • @Username00071 - Neh- Beck's a skinny guy too. For some reason I my an exception when a musician can sound like this :D

  • This is amaze me :)

    He is greaaaat

  • te amo !

  • He sounds great live.

  • It's all about DOSH. He makes this.

  • Agreed. I was into Dosh way before I heard of Andrew Bird, not to say that Andrew isn't talented in his own way; I just like Martin's stuff a lot better...

  • @brentjamesonparker

Sure, you just try playing some Bird loop sequences, have fun

  • If it were just Martin playing, would it be same song? It needs both of them to make the song what it is

  • Incredible talent. I'm grateful he gets to share it with us in this our time.

  • this man is unbelievable.

  • This kinda reminds me of the doors :O

  • Dios mio de donde ha salido este tío...lo mejor que he escuchado en mucho tiempo. Gracias Andrew por hacerme redescubrir la musica de nuevo en estos tiempos tan malos para la lírica

  • Whistling, the violin and the xylophone never looked so bad ass!

  • I saw him at the university of Illinois. It was an awesome show. It was only him playing, no band. Very neat show.

  • This might sound weird but my Human Geography teacher got me into this...

  • I got my Chemistry teacher father into it.

  • one best song of andrew brid's songs :D

  • great man , this music is amazing

  • I saw him a few years ago and I try to introduce anyone i can to his music. It's amazing and even more so in concert!

  • this man is just great! saw him yesterday in amsterdam, and was completely blown away by mr. bird... wow!

  • What a jam this turns into!!

  • check out- el ten eleven

  • best band ever

another two man band with a loop system fetish

  • im sure they don't have an orgasm, get insanely turned on, or want to fuck the machine everytime they make a new loop,

  • chill dude

  • i love the original recording and i like a lot of the things he does in this live version (the whistling effects, the alternative syncopations in the vocals, etc) but i can't help but feel that the guitar solo doesn't really go anywhere. the violin solo in the original song felt much more developed and really went somewhere.

  • BAMF

  • i love how during his little guitar solo he pulls a kind of 'now i hope this is the right note' face.

andrew bird is a musician, no doubt.

  • @mynameisgodihateyou is a big pole smokin homo, he dont know jack shit about music or anything other than take a big one right up his ass everyday. i have never met someone as stupid and ignorant as the is mynameisfaggot person that posts on peoples videos because he has no videos of his own. If i was in the intercontenental US i would personally fly to Nashville and smack that fucker down!!! sorry i interupted your bonaroo video with this bullshit but i am an asshole

  • I have a feeling Andrew Bird could get the completely wrong note and it'd still sound fantastic xD

  • Anyone who pelvic thrusts that beautifully must be a good musician

  • I like how his whole body moves when he plays a different note at the start.

[: It both amuses me and shows me how much he is absorbed in his music..

  • great mixt of rhythms

  • a couple times when he held his whistle for a few seconds it sounded like an alien spaceship lol

  • I love this man.

  • Spoken like an out-of-work musician. Haha.

I saw Andrew at the Cane's Ballroom in Tulsa with a band. He is still awesome and loop pedals are just another tool for this very talented artist.

Howard Jones used lots of sequencers & samplers when he first toured the USA in the early '80's. He came through later with a band and was not near as impressive.

  • ah i wish i saw andrew at the ballroom

i met of montreal at NMF though :D

  • If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.

  • i hav a jazz dance 2 this song

  • i can imagine... has a great beat to it.

  • Andrew Bird is awesome. In a time where music sucks he shines

  • agreed

  • could not agree more my friend

  • @spooninspoon that's because he's actually musically educated -he's not a hack.

  • @spooninspoon *popular music

  • I love the drums in all of his songs, the way the change dynamically throughout the song...

  • I love all of his songs and I love everything about him. It's a shame though that his jazz-influenced music back Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire days aren't on YouTube. At least I can't find any.

  • yo te quiero, andrew

  • Yo más!!

  • es muy bueno, no es verdad? Me encanta como canta...Muy originale!

  • See YOU!

  • see you all AGAIN :D

  • i love Abird...ugh hes just great/original

  • an aurora of sound flooding the senses

  • This is so charmingly different.

  • god I love this guy, hands down the best whistler in the world.

  • i think he won like an international or national whistling contest actually

  • Thats pretty awesome. I can't wait to lisen to him live in toronto :)

  • madness

  • hey, I really find Martin Dosh a great drummer, but this song with Kevin O'Donell is so much better! :)

  • class tune

  • hes the only guy i know that plays violin like that. haha. hes good though i like all of his stuff.

  • You mean that plucking?

    Check out Laura Cortese, btw..

Andrew is class, though. When I travel over to the US next year I'll be sure to go see his show!

  • He is quite a talent. I will be seeing him this week live in New England!

  • I thought I heard a steel drum. Then I thought I was mistaken. Then I thought that would sound cool to mix in some from time to time.

  • that sound is him plucking his violin like a guitar.

  • Also one of my life goals is to be able to whistle like him, but I know it will never happen.

    ;]

  • Andrew Bird is so unique, I love him so much!

  • I`ve heard this song is calming down birds. ^^

  • The mere existence of Andrew Bird is unfair to every other musician alive. The talent oozing from this man is inhuman.

  • My favorite person alive!

  • i cannot get enough of his voice. amazing!

  • Wouldn't it suck if you got wacked in the face by one of those CD's they were chucking at the audience?

  • No it wouldnt suck.....FREE C.D.

  • LOL

  • Oh my god, he is AMAZING live... Damn...

I so regret not going to see him live, he sounds soo great here. I like how he tends to go for a new melody every perfomance too, makes his stuff never get old.

  • Beautiful!! I really love this performance :)

  • Thanks for sending this little gem Jas, This guy has talent.

  • Glad to know you liked it Alan :)xo

  • this is the first time I've seen him wearing anything other than a sport coat and a scarf. it must have been hot over there. and damn, he's a scrawny sumbitch.

    Great song, by the way.

  • Awesome video. This song gets stuck in my head so much.

Also, I love the pose at 1.19

  • I just saw him live for the first time last night in cincinnati, and it was one of the most incredible things I've ever seen. I can't wait to see him again at the Mile High Music Fest!

  • part of bird's live presence is that he can do on stage what most artists need a computer and three other musicians to pull off

also he loves music and it just shows

  • seriously. he is so genuine and truly seems to love what he does. i love him for that. i love his music as well, but he just seems like such a wonderful guy.

  • you also have to credit dosh. he can multi task just as much. and they work perfectly together

  • see: Keller Williams

  • i've put a lot of thought into this, but i'm pretty sure this is the best video on youtube

  • Bird is just amazing..there's no need to argue if we all agree with that fact.

  • Andrew Bird is my favorite artist, but why is it that his studio recordings are so bad compared to his live stuff? His live shows are amazing, but when you here the cd tracks his voice sounds like he's mumbling and some of the songs are completely different (ahem... plasticities). I'm not insulting Andrew Bird, I just think he needs a better studio to record his stuff.

  • his studio stuff is incredible

its just live music is always better

  • I don't think they are "so bad" I actually really love the plasticities version on Armchair Apocrypha. His live versions are better because he gets into the music versus in a studio where you do take after take after take to get it right. You get really sick of your own songs after playing them for 20 hours :P

  • I large part of it is that he does all the looping live, in a studio he has the freedom to do whatever he wants, when you're on stage with a loop station, you're far more limited. Yet, in that you find that Andrew Bird is an artist, not just a musician.

  • simply by holding it, he is using it. ;]

  • A.Bird makes me swoooooon.

  • wtf? christ comments on a andrew bird song? lulz

  • Marry me, Mr. Bird.

  • With Brad Pitt on drums, its...

  • It may be a nice experience to be famous. Well a lot of the people I know listen to bird so I thought he was famous. I was wrong. Happy holidays, peace out.(:

  • Well Bird is famous and your not.

  • Every Andrew Bird video on youtube has some comment from you trying to prove a meaningless point to someone. Do you have a life? Go do something productive like read a book, paint a picture, or, better yet, learn to play a musical instrument. You cant put down musicians until you yourself can play one.

  • what the hell man? Are you so selfish? Who are YOU to say that blank wall is not art? To hell with you and your views. I hope your dull life isn't an excuse for your comments. Art is found everywhere, from the trees outside your house to how people talk to religious beliefs to a hollywood flick and YOU cannot deny this because you are only yourself and not everyone else. People become better when they truly understand life, and life is not discovered in a bible, its learned by experiences.

  • Is it possible to experience everything there is about life, if a lifetime is not enough? No. So, the aid of wisdom of others is needed. It is impossible to experience everything, so we also depend on knowledge to teach us the things we cannot experience in out span of living.

  • When did I not say what you just said? I specifically wrote that life is learned through experiences. Experiences include other people too don't they'? Knowledge is power, but wisdom is king. Knowledge isn't wisdom, its like thinking, but not having any consciousness about anything at all. Two very different things which if you don't fully understand them you will never be able to transcend.

  • The Bible isn't open to interpretation, according to Christ himself. And you shouldn't compare the Word of God to abstract art. Abstract art isn't music either. Lyrics in songs have to mean something and most songs do. They are plain in meaning.Even the poetic songs have meanings that everyone gets in the same way. That's the beauty of poetry, it communicates the same thing in a different way.

  • Furthermore, those who ignored the Christ's warning to avoid personal interpretation of God's word helped create various types of Christianity that disagree with each other and have killed over it in recorded history. Let's not do that with music. Abstract lyrics are just nonsense and can't be called poetry. If everyone is supposed to 'get' what they want from it you may as well throw tea leaves and call that music.

  • Are you baptist unsungvillin?

  • Wardinho, no I'm not a baptist. Bible references to Jesus.Of course it was written after the crucifixion and quote Jesus. He told his followers that all the books were sealed until the end of time. He said that they shouldn't add any meaning to His Words. That means not to make interpretations. I know this because Christ has returned and I've read His new writings. His name is Baha'u'llah. As promised in the Bible he has come with his 'new name'.

  • really. Well if you believe that then that explains a lot about you. How do we know those are his words. Why are the gospels all different? If his followers did as he said, then they should all be the same, shouldnt they? Each gospel has it's own interpretation.

  • Im not going to argue with you. You have your views and i have mine. Just stop writing all over Andrew Bird's videos.
