  • Lui my man, this exercise is generally bad for the spinal column. It may work for you, but I wouldn't recommend it for everyone.

  • i do this alot but after a friend made me laugh because hes like. when you do that. think of your self as a penguin walking XD. ass made me lose a good amount of reps because he really got a mental picture in my head making think that when i was working out in the gym XD.

  • Ay Lui...I was always told the same thing never use weights for ab/obliques, only your own body weight, as the weights build the ab muscles and increase the width and make your waist look wider as opposed to slimmer...

  • Hey Lui, I don't work my obliques with weights, I usually work them with my own bodyweight, doing bicycles and curls. I'm afraid my waist may look bigger and I don't want that. Is it true?

  • is this the only thing you do for side abs?

    what do you think about that gym machine in which you can rotate your upper body  while sitting in it. it gives me the strongest feeling of working the side abs but it is a continious tension.

  • @CIarKent yes thats all i do. yes indeed the rotating machines are a continuous tension ( which might be good in this case cause we're not looking to develop mass ) for the Abs too a use sometime a Continuous tension machine cause i want them to be compact and solid but not blocky and massive, so yes go for it , just be careful on your spine right cause it moves in an unnatural way

  • @luimarco I knew I was doing something right because that machine feels great for the obliques.

    usually at the end of every workout I hang from a bar for a minute or two to stretch the spine and remove tension from between all the vertebres. especially after leg or back workouts when I lift heavy.

    what do you think about working the obliques during crunches when you move from side to side as you go up? or during leg raises when you raise the legs to different sides?

  • @CIarKent crunches side ways will target the oblique as well without isolating it tough, they re good. i don't do them often
