When drivers start thinking they are better off not racing, it's a reason why the track's not in use anymore. That jump, while looking cool, can send a car flipping through the air. To run the track today, you'd lose its look since the armco would be replaced with higher concrete barriers, tyre barriers would be used and the catchfencing would be far more prevalent. With modern F1 cars not being able to follow closely through medium speed corners, what you'd have is Valencia on a hill.
I forgot about that circuit, but been there today and got really excited seeing a map of it. I did whole lap with my feet and that circuit is amazing! Looks really demanding with rapid changes of height.
never fails to astound me how ridiculously dangerous it used to be (not so long ago) not only to race in F1 but to just go to or be a corner marshall at an F1 race.
The spaniards showed what backwards and out of touch with modern times they are with this dangerous race. I bet even today if you showed them a TV they'd gasp with amazement and yell "witchcraft"!
The Iberian peninsula and its peoples: forever stuck in the middle ages.
@Foxx1981 Why don't you come over here to check out a little bit how "middle-aged" we are instead of talking undocumented shit like yours? Are you jealous because we can have here one of the best GP in the whole world such as the one placed in Montmeló circuit?
Yes, and that backwards mentality is soon catching up on them in the shape of economical problems. Soon Portugal and Spain are going to experience what Greece is now, and on a larger scale. Greece can be "bailed-out", but I am not so sure about Spain.
f1 should revisit this circuit and many others in europe, do away with the dull arabian circuits where only a few wealthy oil magnates and there staff are paid to watch.
@T1carus this circuit is in Barcelona and it's simply AMAZING. There's a slow zone and a very fast zone too. Search RFACTOR MONTJUIC in youtube and you will see an onboard lap
@AnfieldRed08 This comment is more stupid that eating yourselfs poo. Because of Aerodynamics nowadays they cant overtake. Not because of circuit layouts!
Drivers and spectators are the last monkeys at this circus. All is money and business. Montjuic and Jarama were real jewels in Spain. Well, the first one doesn´t exists now, the second one is dying because of the authories. Actually Jarama is too small for F1. This is true, but a lot of supporters could go there and drive with their own cars and bikes and also see small local races, trucks races, etc.. Now, we can´t. They doesn´t care about this if there´s no money for their pockets.
Well, in an interview before Murray Walker said he was horrified by all the bad things being said about Ecclestone because before he came into the sport it was crap and he was the man that made it good and exciting.

@gerardvng You are right, Montjuic is still dangerous nowadays when it is just a lot of streets of Barcelona.

That looked like an amazing race circuit. Probably far better than the non-overtaking Tilke circuits on the calendar today.
AnfieldRed08 2 years ago 50
Totally agree! If only it was possible to maintain a normal level of safety there!
One of the best F1 circuits ever! And if anyone disagrees he's f@cking wrong!
