the iPhone 4 is now much better than the Newton. But the original iPhone (the one he is showing on this video) is crap and the newton is better. I mean tell me something the iPhone 4 can't do but the newton can!?
I think the MessagePad, especially the 2000 & 2100 can still be useful today. In fact, my favorite features are the Datebook and To Do and Notes apps. I like these because they allow you to focus on personal productivity, scheduling and tasks and even projects with Notes. There are "stationary" slips that allow you to do outlines and lists, etc. You can implement a GTD system with Notes and the Datebook. Voice Notes are excellent for recording ideas. Very focused device, no iPhone distractions.
I used a Newton 2000 for years (and a Newton 110 before that). Just a fun device. To me the fun was hooking up speakers, keyboard, a VGA monitor, and adding ATA cards for a gig of memory and having a little computer desktop system. With the PCMCIA ports the Newton was amazingly expandable. Now days the Newton is still great for what it was originally designed for: taking text and voice notes, being a portable book reader, and on the go games of solitare (and other games). :)
YO, I just got a Newton Message Pad 2100 yesterday, it is awesome, my favorite thing is the to do lists, I will be making a short or long (haven't decided yet) video about it, come check it out!
I know a guy who has somehow found a wifi card to put in the newton and now uses it as a little web browser and a e-mail system!! But he put more mem in it.

The Newton is one of the most Underrated PDAs ever. I'm considering getting a refurbished one when I get some extra cash.

Newton is much more useful than iphone IMHO. The note-taking function is AMAZING. I can not believe iphone still has no cut and paste.
