im trying to get my cat to do this. im at the step where the litter box is directly on top of the toilet, but whenever i try to transition him from box to bowl, he wont go.
Sounds like he just needs more time, or maybe he simply isn't into it. Picnic here of course was totally fine with this, but my other cat Turbo was absolutely not willing to participate- so against it that he peed on the floor :(
You're probably doing this, but just in case, be sure you use your cat's old litter from the box in the new bowl.
how long will it take before kitty can fully go to toilet? i personally wouldn't wanna sit in the same toilet my cat sits on, that seems strange, and sometime the bathroom door might be closed, she cant go. i dont mind scoopin cat poop no big deal. plus i would see cat pee and poop in toilet and have to flush it down. im afraid cat might tinkle around toilet seat on accident.
Yes it's got its pros & cons! The training process varies with each cat... Picnic was totally at ease having a "litter box" in the toilet. But he is very used to the litter so it'll be awhile (weeks, or maybe months) as I gradually reduce the amount of litter to get him accustomed to a toilet bowl.
p.s. if you try this and the cat pees in the wrong place, thats ok. it's just a sign to take things a little more slowly :o)
We used a disposable aluminum oven-roasting-pan because it's flexible. Be sure to get a roasting pan a little bigger than the toilet bowl, so that it can be molded to hang over the rim of the toilet bowl.
Also note-- this method of holding the pan in place could probably be a little better... this pan gets slightly in the way of the seat going down all the way, so the seat is unsteady and this is a little uncomfortable for Picnic. He seems mostly ok with it though. :)
:-) I have read that cats CAN be taught to flush... BUT once they learn, they'll flush whenever they feel like, because they see flushing as a unique trick rather than a part of the toilet routine. Imagine that- waking up at 4am to the sound of the toilet being flushed again and again :o) !!!
Yes. This is one step in the training process... it's the longest step for Picnic, because he feels very attached to his trusty kitty-litter! There are some holes in this litter pan (actually it's an aluminum oven-roasting pan) that I'll gradually cut larger while reducing the amount of litter.
