  • Very inspiring video ! Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu !

  • very nice thanks for sharing

i have a question it looked like you got given a lot of food is that for one day? or do you get a lot each day, as i can see you are quite thin you must then share it to other needy souls.

    peace

  • Beautiful!, you are really blessed .

  • keep it up brother....a path that appears romantic but is challenging, changing, and for the chosen few! Thank you for the videos and providing an insight into the life of a theravarda monk. Maybe you are not part of the Forest Tradition and I know monks in that tradition (Arjun Mun etc) go-it-alone as you seem to be doing currently.

  • สาธุ ขออนุโมธนาบุญในการปฏิบัติดีปฏิบัติชอบของท่านด้วยเทอญ

  • Really want to know the title of the song used. It's really beautiful.Sadhu sadhu.

  • @20053633 me 2, its really somethin else.... :)

  • @20053633 After some time, I finally found the song! :D It's by Imee Ooi - The Chant of metta. ♥

  • @20053633 This music is : Imee Ooi - The Chant of metta

    Regards.

  • What happens as a monk if you get sick? I was just imagining myself doing this, but I tend to get a bad sinus and/or ear infection once every year or so.

So if you wake up at 3am with excruciating pain in your ear, or you can't even get out of bed and your sheets are soaked in sweat because of fever, can you go to the doctor? Or do you just sit there and "experience the agony" in the moment?

(I'm not trying to be sarcastic- this is a genuine, earnest, well-meaning question.)

  • May I know the title of the music please? Thank you. :)

  • I am nothing. No-thing. Thank you! This is one of my favorite videos of yours. You inspire me a lot and I have so much respect on you. Monks are dear to my heart and I also want to become a monk. Blessings and Namaste.

  • life good ! very good! i like

  • sir , may u tell me the name of the place you stay in this video please, thankyou very much.

  • Dear, Sir.

thank you so much for uploading these videos and for your gentleness and kindness. I respect and admire what you do and wish you well. I would also like to say that you have one of the most calm and relaxing voices I've ever heard. It's like valium for the ears. Love and peace to you. Be well

  • thank you yuttadhammo for your beautiful example of committed practice and your excellent teaching. seeing the generosity of others towards you brought tears to my eyes both for their generosity and the merit they earn when giving. you are living dhamma and inspire me to redouble my commitment to practice. i take refuge in the buddha, dhamma, and sangha and in my catholic faith. there is no conflict to me. peace dhamma bro. =)

  • @hexcane Everybody is a teacher but we all have limited knowledge and we're not accessable to everybody and not everybody is accessable to us.

Monks simply teach the way of buddhism and are willing to teach anybody who would like to learn about it. Giving alms to monks is simply a sign of gratitude, people are in no way propelled to do so because of the claimed superiority you claim they (or at least this particular monk) posesses.

It's a way of respecting the sacrifice every monk makes. :)

  • @hexcane

Please try to think more before you open your mouth. I can tell you that I am one of the countless people that benefit enourmously from the teaching of this monk. He is doing a great service to humanity by giving them the gift of knowledge which exceeds all other gift. Thank you Pra Yuttadhammo for your good work.

  • @loso8000 Thanks for your feedback... it's only because of such appreciation that I continue teaching; that and because people feed me, which they do out of gratitude and appreciation, of course.

  • @yuttadhammo

I should be the one to thank you. I respect what you do.

  • @hexcane do you not feel grateful to your parents for what they have taught you? I am sorry you have such pernicious views that are so out of touch with reality... most people are lost and have no direction, wasting their lives away due to lack of proper guidance.

You make meditation sound so easy. If only it were. I wouldn't have to work so hard at it then, nor would it be so difficult to teach other people to overcome their wrong views.

  • @hexcane I do cultivate food and medicine for both myself and others, to help the poor and sick who are not as able-minded as I am. Not all people contribute to society in the same way. They farm, I teach.

  • Ok... so you dont believe in God but some fat guy? Wow!

  • @Stanaford You confuse Budai with the Buddha.

This is a common misconception here in the West. Such a huge misconception that we have shirts that read "I have the body of a god. Too bad it's Buddha." My brother and his wife nicknamed their son "Buddha" because of how hefty he was in infancy. Actually, everyone who has ever bought me a "Buddha" statue has, in fact, purchased a Budai statue. I appreciate it nonetheless, of course, but he's not the Buddha. LoL

  • @Stanaford What fat guy? Buddha was not fat. If you're thinking Budai or Hotei he's the laughing Buddha and he was folkloric deity of the Chinese and Japanese. He is not Gautama Buddha. Please do not post such ignorant comments when you don't have proper research.

  • What an amazing an beautiful video!

  • I want to be a monk!

  • Your videos if anything have changed my outlook in a negative sense. It seems you spend your existence blocking out everything, good or bad.

    Insightful non the less

  • @z0mgrugbyreturns sorry to hear that. I think you misinterpret my videos; I can't imagine where you got the idea I block things out. Maybe you should try meditating and see for yourself?

  • @yuttadhammo Well I can definately see the benefits of identifying negative thoughts for what they are, and not dwelling on said emotions. But the idea of doing the same for positive thoughts I don't see the immediate benefit of.

I've been trying to get into meditation actually but I'm hearing so much varying information on what meditation is, what to do that it's difficult to start.

I found your basics insightful and calming(the breathing exercises). But struggled to stay focused on that

  • @z0mgrugbyreturns Thanks for clarifying that :) certain "positive" thoughts can easily be the basis for addiction. That is the purpose. Just as with negative thoughts you are avoiding the cycle of depression, etc., noting positive thoughts you are avoiding the cycle of addiction. It is mostly important to focus on those states of craving that will lead to addiction. Ordinary positive thoughts are not really a concern.

  • Thank you Bante, Beautiful...

  • Id be a monk if I could have internet access too

  • @magus17 Cyber monk...

  • Just beautiful... May Buddha be with you always. :)

  • There is no limit to the size of the ego that lives in that saffron robe

  • Hello Yuttadhammo. Do you still offer this dvd? I looked on your page and all I could see was the meditation cd.

    Metta.

  • @lxvlx There is no meditation CD, only the two-DVD set... one of the DVDs still has this video on it, but it is not in the table of contents.

  • Isn't "just being" kind of selfish. Shouldnt we who are strong help the weak? How are we an influence by "just being?"

  • @ddhdearlove What he is doing now - offering this YouTube page and his DVD along with the subsequent teachings - is helping. Aside from that, "just being" is a great example for everyone who wishes to attain the same. Knowing purely practicing monks exist allow us to know that we are able to attain the same state.

In the Buddhist sense he is helping us all alleviate true suffering which everyone - from those in Haiti to those in Beverly Hills - experiences, despite your definition of the word.

  • @WhispersFromTheAbyss GREAT RESPONSE!!!

  • I am a Bhuddist

  • where can i find you in thailand? i would like to visit

  • @seorka I'm in Los Angeles, USA now...

  • thanks for your reply. i'm curious about your thoughts regarding Ram Bahadur Bomjon, a monk from Nepal that has become a pretty big deal since he was first discovered meditating under a tree for about 10 months without food/water. today he is regarded as an enlightened being, and even though he denies it (haha), a living Buddha.

  • @seorka you can visit him at Chiangmai, Chorm Tong Temple, T. Chorm Tong

  • Your holiness, can you tell me which part of thailand is this video filmed. i wd like to visit it someday. May the seeds of Dhamma be with you n I hope you will be able to attain nibbana this lifetime. Sathu3.

  • There is no real difference between a monk and a layman. One must see how the food, robes, temple, and basically everything else all comes from the labour of hard working average people.

  • The sangha who have practice well I bow low to that sangha worthy of respect and hospitality. Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu

  • This is just an amazing video. When i saw the monk receiving food, its just an eye opener of how accepting people are. There is great sense of compassion and understaning that without the world having compassion monks wont exist. It is only in the offering that we understand humanity. When we give without any expectation, the giving then becomes the beautiful meaning of compassion. Just loved it.

  • I LOVE the way you live! Not just your stillness within, but where and how you live! I would love to live in the forest full of nature. I live where there is quite a bit of nature, but to be surrounded by trees all the time, must be so beautiful and relaxing. I find that nature can teach you the ways of inner stillness, and from my experience, it has. peace & love

    -Andrea

  • This is the best life that anyone can definitely have..its so peaceful and no attachments..so no sadness..this is so amazing..i love nature and this monk life...i want to become a monk once i do my maths degree from uol then hope that my mom will give me the permission..Namo Budhdhaya

  • Wow man very inspirational seriously so where were you born just wondering? and wow that cave with the statue looks beautiful

  • thats the wonderful explanation about being a monk. it is just being ordinary. i feel being ordinary is the most extraordinary thing in the world.

  • how do you live in the forest ? do you build houses to sleep in ?

  • It seems the more I learn about the way of the elders the more I want to be a better Buddhist. There is so much complication amongst my fellow Mahayanas. So many new-fangled ideas regarding this deity or that protector or the differences betwixt this lineage and that.

It appears as if the Nikaya is closer to what the Buddha taught. Let go of desire and look into emptiness.

I find you very inspirational and I look forward to watching your videos.

btw - What is that lovely tune in this video?

  • The Chant of Metta by Imee Ooi

  • Great video ajahn noah hope all is well with you. Robert Ireland

  • you are truly inspirational and i bow low before you yuttadhammo, strive on :)

  • It seems like you will get a bowl full of white rice, and nothing else. I'm a little concerned about getting very little nutrition on the alms round. No vegetables or fruit for example. I know that we need to give up sensual pleasures, but we should talke care of our bodies, no? The human body needs vitamens from fruits and vegetables. And what do youy do with the other three pounds of rice. I'm very serious in my question. I'm not joking in any way. How do you reconcile this? -Kirk

  • Who said we only get a bowlful of white rice? I don't know where you got such a strange idea... lots of fruit and veggies and, in Thailand anyway, lots of gross meatstuffs as well.

  • Oh, that's good to know. I really enjoy your talks. Thanks!

  • dont wonder why hes wearing glasses...your absolutly right rice is lacking in nutrients and complete protein unlike quinoa or vedgetables

  • Lovely.

  • Sarthu ven. Yuttadhammo. I have seen some of your videos and I love them. Which lineage of Theravada is it you are following? I can't really figure that out? :)

  • My teacher is Ajaan Tong Sirimangalo. His bio is on sirimangalo org

  • Your forest is so beautiful! Yes, I too hope you'll make more videos from that beautiful place! Feels so good to just "be" in the forest (:

    Thank you!

  • anumotana, thank you very much for appreciatating our culture, and feel glad for you that you have found your way in the renuciation life

  • Where you live in nature looks so heavenly, with the creeks, moonlight, meditation cave, and all. It's a beautiful life on retreat. Thanks for sharing. Please upload more videos like this.

  • Beautiful.

  • So is meditation only useful if you wish to learn to be a monk? Will you teach those of us who live a non-monk life, if and how meditation can be useful.

  • good question... of course, meditation is practiced by "non-monks" all of the world. I'll try to make a video going into more detail. Check out my vblog for the posting.

  • You might want to look into upstate NY, Hudson Valley region or even in Orange county...a friend of my wife bought and old dairy farm and I envisioned a forest sangha...the surrounding area was beautiful. I will find out the info if you are interested.

  • A life of Inner Peace and detachment from wordly cravings...

  • Gives a good view of being a monk. Interesting.

Monks are the light in this world!

  • If you want some buildable land in the middle of Nevada, far from anything, send me a private message. It is off-grid (i.e., build solar thermal for heat and solar PV for electric), but free. You would have no basis for local fund-raising or local sangha, but if you have funds from elsewhere, this might be suitable place for a retreat.
