  • i bet she doesn't realize that okay!!

  • i've always hated that song, and never had an interest in hearing it before. but i gotta admit that melinda did a great job with it! and as randy jackson probably has said before. she can sing the phonebook and it will still sound really good.

  • Awsome voice. She's even better now!

  • Ace, Top-Notch, First-Rate, Excellent, Fantabulous, Splendid, Glorius, Magnificient, Splendiferous, Brilliant, Resplendent, Superb.... Gosh, I can run out of adjectives and still not be able to describe this voice of Melinda Doolittle... The best ever singer to have graduated from AI.... EVER !!!! PERIOD !!!!

  • WOW! She sounds amazing! :D

  • I love this song!

  • This is astonishing! Only a truly great singer could pull this off. This song had become such a worn-out old relic, but now Melinda has put it back at the very top of the tree. She is clearly an excellent musician, her melody changes sound just right, and you can really hear every word. Please, America, cherish her on behalf of the world.

  • Actually this was just okay. I have have lived and worked in the southern US states and have heard much better versions by unknows

  • Actually, Melinda was pretty much an "unknown" before Idol as well. :-) So we're not judging based on her fame.

  • Wow. She's really amazing. I actually find her so attractive. Even more when she opens her mouth and starts singing.

  • Melinda is a Very Special Person, for sure...!!

  • Without a warning, this Beautiful Songbird has come out of the shadows to beguile and entertain us with her magical voice, good humour, modesty, intelligence, and warmth.

In a matter of a few days, we are comparing her with the Great Entertainers of all time. Already she belongs with Gladys, Tina, Sarah, Ella, Whitney, CeCe, Celine, Yolanda....... !!

  • I tried several drafts of a comment to convey how beautiful this was and failed. I agree that she should have sang a capella on the show. Remember when Bo Bice did? If Melinda had, it would have been nothing short of magical.

  • So cool!

  • Awesome.

  • Melinda's done the near-impossible: she's turned this song, heard perhaps MILLIONS of times as upbeat filler at sporting filler, into a heartfelt meditation on faith and hope. And a cappella at that...absolutely wonderful. And it is "near" impossible...for indeed, everytime I hear Melinda, I marvel anew at her incredible talent...she can sing ANYTHING...and sing it better than ANYBODY!

  • I agree with you, Roshoc 1.

This actually SOUNDS like something that Melinda would ENJOY doing. From what I have seen and heard, faith is SUCH a huge part of her life. It'd be great if Melinda would consider recording a gospel album of classic hymns, but I'll buy ANYTHING that she sings.

I love you, Melinda!!!!!!! You are one of a kind. God bless you ALWAYS!

  • Do you suppose the Melinda recorded her own back-up vocals as well as the solo? That would be cool.

  • No, she didn't record her own back-up vocals. This song is available at Music for the Soul. The name of the recording is After the Storm.

  • For all who don't understand what the sign is, it's a hook-em horns sign for the Texas Longhorns. That's one possibility.

  • It's also a "Rock" sign that is commonly used in Rock music.

  • She doesn't even know what it means! She thought it was the sign for rock, afterall it is.

  • Do anyone know if this performance is a download selection?

  • No, this is not available as a download. It is available at Music for the Soul. The recording is After the Storm

  • This women can sing, get ready folks to start marching in.

  • I'll see you as a "Believer" did Paul speak about reaching the world how do you see an outcome of this women becoming worldly. Keep her in prayer that God will keep her. I see a women that probably don't know what the sign means. But I guess by now her church family may have let her know. I see a women that loves the Lord, without the Anointing on her voice she would not shine as will as she does. keep the sister in prayer.

  • Jesus hung out with Sinners and Tax Collectors and had multitudes of woman following Him. He did not Sin, He did not conform, He had a great time. Taught, shined His Love through Himself and others saw it. Melinda has all the fruits visible from the outside that Galatians speaks about in Galatians 5 I believe 21. Relax, people got a kick outta it. Nothing is bad in itself. ITS HER HEART that matters !!!! Faith Hope and Love

  • Melinda flashed the "Il Cornuto" symbol which is the Devil's symbol himself!!!

  • yeah, and not many people know that since its been so associated with rock.

i bet she doesn't even realise that, or it was scripted.

    probably both.

  • come on, that devil reference is so outdated. NO ONE (at least 99.99999% of us) think that as we rock out with that hand gesture (and i do it all the time.) GreatKM needs to time travel back to the dark ages and shut up. melinda was rocking out and having fun , as she does, no way does that symbol mean anything but rock on dude! dont try and stir the pot with that one.

  • There's no such thing as "outdated" when in comes to the truth. If you are not a believer in Christ and don't know the depths of Christian history, you surely have no awareness of the true meaning of that hand gesture. I suggest you read about "Il Cornuto." It's meanings have not changed. Go and get enlightened before you get in bondage. Many have died because of ignorance.

  • I had forgotten that people like GreatKM existed... Sigh.

mzzh is right, you can't possibly accuse Melinda for supporting Devil just because she showed that sign! I'm sure she doesn't even know the history of it.

Melinda probably is a religious person and I would absolutely HATE it if some stupid geek went and hurt her feelings by these stupid accusations...

I don't believe either in god or devil, so I couldn't care less if the whole world used this sign.

  • People who don't stand for anything are sure to fall.

  • GreatKM is so irrelevant. He can suck dogballs... nuff said.

  • Your comment is irrelevant.

  • Right on, samp. This, exactly like this, as her opening finals song, and the other singer will die a thousand deaths back-stage. The difference is down to the way she manages to work on the tone of her voice. Also, slow and restrained a capella is totally difficult to do, and will reveal every tiny error, unless you're Melinda and there are no mistakes. No "boring" singer could do that. Note to Melinda haters: "Hear this and weep".

  • I disagree, (with myself!), but part of the tonal difference in her voice is that either the mike is not the best on earth, or she is holding it a lot closer than we've seen on Idol. I'd go for a bit of both. Now she has all the self-belief to be at the front of the stage, she can hold the mike off a bit, let rip, and trust herself. And if someone hands her a $2 mike now she can take it and... but she's too nice, she wouldn't.

  • gorgeous vocals! the harmonizing is on pointe! i get goosebumps watching her on tv!

  • WOW!!! This is the risk Melinda needs to take! If she performs a capella in the finale... I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it! America you have your next American IDOL!!

  • Wow thanks for this, another example as to why she is tbe best idol ever

  • Awsome voice. She's even better now!

  • Ah luvs me mah Melinda! She is really special.

  • she should do this kind of performance for AI. NO ONE can match her voice. a cappella done by melinda? wow. amazing.

  • I really hope she does do an a capella one.

    She would be SO AMAZING.

the whole american idol system would crash because there would be so many votes.

  • I wonder when she recorded this. She sounds great, but she sounds a little different.

  • I'm not sure when it was recorded.

    Probably awhile ago.

    She does sound somewhat different

  • She recorded this in the fall of 2005. It is available at Music for the Soul. The recording is After the Storm.

  • Great, Great Vocals...
