I don't know anything about guitars (must be a guy thing). All I know is how Buddy's music sounds and that it goes deep in your bones and you have to move to it (guess that's a girl thing!).......
Carlos Santana will do anything for a buck, including hiring Lauren Hill to work with him, after she said that she'd rather see her young child die than to have a white person buy one of her albums.
santana has that latin feel to his playing--he can get jazzy in his way. he does have his blues roots. buddy is straight up blues. buddy is a more stripped down player. i've seen him live--he was magnifcent. his vocals set up his leads. santana just plays. buddy is 74. carlos can get into some fusion. i haven't seen buddy do fusion till this. & he's not using his bassman amps. hendrix i think played a strat due to buddy. if they were playing buddy's stuff, it would have sounded better
I believe that when Eddie Hazel was young he really did something terrible and he hurt his mom really really bad and he was trying to explain and apoligize to her through this song!
@smashface31 Actually, I'm pretty sure George Clinton told Hazel to think of the saddest thing he could while playing the solo, and he used his mother's death for the inspiration. Don't remember where, but I read that somewhere.
@RyanJones124 - Hi, man. I think the story most commonly told is similar to that - it's said that George C told Eddie to imagine that he'd been told that his mother had died, but in actual fact, it wasn't true. It's certainly a pretty evocative blues piece, I think...
Is it me or what but I trully believe that these two bring out the best in each other. They don't compete against one another but just enjoy each other's playing to the maximun!
Thank you Carlos and Buddy. You opened my eyes to one of the greatest guitarists that ever lived: Eddie Hazel of the Funkadelic. I can't believe that I've never heard of him before and it goes to show how being populat has nothing to do with being great!
The feel between these two is out of this world. I actually got goose bumps and tears in my eyes... This took me to another place. Two of the best ever no doubt!!
Amazing to see these two play this song together. Santana was on it and buddy was a little shaky but they both still got spine to tingle as usual. Check out my cover of this song if interested.
Buddy is one of the greats of all time...BUT BOY DID HE TOTALLY SUCK HERE!!! lol what happened??? Carlos SCHOOLED HIM!!! I think Buddy can only truly play a Strat he seems SOOOO LOST AND SLOPPY OH MY.......it makes us mortals feel good..even GUY CAN STINK ON OCCASION
@konshess it's hard for a pure bluesman to play other styles it think , totally different type of melodies and i think they didn't have time to rehearse it together.
they both are capable of a better job,and the audio isn't that great i must say.quite decent job though, you don't get the going through hell vibe as much as the original, which i must say is not beatable as an emotional solo.these two guys could have nailed the vibe better though, and partially they really did do a great job, nice preformance
Very cool to see these guys try things like this in front of everybody. Sometimes it's magic and sometimes it's just cool to see the effort. Too bad some of the idiots on this site don't get the value in that and want to slam them. Carlos and Buddy on the same stage together=awesome. There's always something to learn!!!
I agree with you 100%. My point to these idiots talking $hit your commenting from youtube while their on stage! Thats makes you the they masters of the computer keyboard!
Great, you can hear when someone is out of key. Don't be so quick to tell people that you know nothing of the blues and thus modern music. I am not talking about this video. If you had any knowledge of the prior two arguments, you would have never made that comment. Wrong key. It happens. Do you know of the age differences of these two? Maybe the sound was bad You can tell 5:12 that Carlos's volume is more. The organ in the background could be louder on the final "mix" IF you know what that is.
Wow you need to remove your comment. Did you watch the whole thing? Do you use headphones or your computer speakers? Do you know that he was trying to play the blues progression, 3 chords at the end, but the band didn't even play the right chords. AND IT STILL ROCKED. Have you no deciency about you? He obviously was know and was sorry he was in the wrong key, that why he changed it.
Did you watch the end of it? You need to buy this song on itunes, "what kind of women is this" And then wish your grandpa was that cool or could play like that.
Thanks for the pointless lecture about nothing interesting. I'm just surprised how awful buddy guy sounds in some of this jam. And it is my opinion. It's not my opinion based anything else apart from what I'm used to hearing from buddy guy. Also, why are you trolling this video? You seem to make aggressive and argumentative replies to most peoples comments.
I remember in the 80s seeing a guitar magazine spread where Buddy was playing a baby blue ESP guitar. It had a Floyd and everything. Square radiused, no pickguard and pointy headstock included.
@mitzfah13 I mean I've seen pictures of him playing SGs and 335's from his early days but I mean he's got a signature strat! I'm sure he's just playing it because they're at the Experience PRS

I wish Buddy only sang the song cause PRS is not his type of guitar and I think his playing proved it . Buddy is a Fender man :)

I used to be really critical about performance but lets be real about this musical outing.
Ask anyone if they can do what they did in their late teens as well now they're in their mid to late 60's!
At least these two giants can take you with them.

i dunno guys, Buddy didn't seem into it. Like he couldn't get the backing of the song.
Which is weird cause sometimes Carlos does that too when he sits in with others.
