The BBC is a public service it's duty is to provide entertainment to the masses in the UK.
We have to pay £145 (at the moment) per year for a tv license, the money from that then goes to the BBC which then produce the shows we "ask" for. It'd be unfair for other countries to get the same programs straight away for free.
I can't wait. I don't think it will be as good as the UK Top Gear, but it should be better then the Aussie Top Gear. I still like the Aussie one... I'm just happy Jay Leno isn't a host. He has nice cars and bikes but can't stand him... GO TOP GEAR USA!!!

Why the hell do we need an American Top Gear? I really do not mind watching the BBC version. Its funny and very well done. I doubt the American version will work! I cant imagine it will be funny at all. Basically it will seem like they are trying to copy the UK version but be off by a longgggggggggggg way. There is just something about the way TG UK does their stuff and the hosts that make the show. No way to reproduce that.
The major appeal of Top Gear UK was the fact that the presenters didn't just have good chemistry, but all of them were eccentric left-of-centre field characters you'd avoid in real life, and that all of them had a dead-pan bone-dry sense of humour even when they're remarks were ridiculously exaggerated. It's Monty Python for Gear Heads, is what it was. If Top Gear US can pull that off, then well... good on them, I guess.
I will hold off judgement on US Top Gear until it comes out, but I am thinking it will suck pretty hard.

For me, much of the fun of Top Gear is seeing some of the cars we never see in the U.S., the UK and European locales, the British sense of humor, putting the stars who I have rarely heard of in reasonable priced cars, and them getting so excited about the Ford Focus.
It might be like Iron Chef. Losing the small eccentricities of the original production takes away from the show.
I miss the translations when watching Iron Chef and I'd miss hearing them call a sedan a saloon car on Top Gear.

The major appeal of Top Gear UK was the fact that the presenters didn't just have good chemistry, but all of them were eccentric left-of-centre field characters you'd avoid in real life, and that all of them had a dead-pan bone-dry sense of humour even when they're remarks were ridiculously exaggerated. It's Monty Python for Gear Heads, is what it was. If Top Gear US can pull that off, then well... good on them, I guess.

For me, much of the fun of Top Gear is seeing some of the cars we never see in the U.S., the UK and European locales, the British sense of humor, putting the stars who I have rarely heard of in reasonable priced cars, and them getting so excited about the Ford Focus.
It might be like Iron Chef. Losing the small eccentricities of the original production takes away from the show.
I miss the translations when watching Iron Chef and I'd miss hearing them call a sedan a saloon car on Top Gear.

The U.K. Top Gear is a great show, the hosts are good, but I think its the camera work and variety that makes it great. There are tons of competent, charming, and funny people in the U.S. as well

First off, Top Gear in UK is already in too deep of details of cars than americans so why waste more money and natural resources for something that we already have in the world.
