  • Brilliant surgery, I have tried placing connective tissue grafts using the tunnel technique and I know its not easy. But you just make it look real simple and you are right, that just comes with practice. By the way, your comments at the end of most videos extremely valuable.... haha.... deep breath!!!

  • man, this procedure looks difficult.

  • @aznxkigga that's why they call it a "practice", which have been doing for almost 30 years...

  • Thanks VERY much for these. These videos are a great contribution to the profession.

  • nice!!!thanks a lot!!!!I need to fly to your place and give a look!!!

But palatally....the artery? are you scared about?

  • @mikikite I still have my skull from dental school. If you have one check it out or review an illustration or tomo. Related to where the donor is removed, the artery can be severed, but rarely. Most times there are exostoses palatal to the second molars that preclude even going that far back to harvest the tissue.

  • if the outcome of this procedure will not sucess ,(still there is small area of recession),Shall i starts this procedure again?and when?

thank you for correcting my knowledge on my previous comment.

  • May I ask what type of video equipment are you using to record your surgeries?

  • @luvhawaii808 I have a Global Microscope with a beam splitter to a Sony Camcorder. I record on DV tapes that I get at Costco. I have a library of tapes and record procedures and post ops for each patient/tape. I then download the content onto my desktop from a DV recorder (Sony) and then edit the movie on Windows Moviemaker. I also use the tapes in their entirety when I teach my microsurgery video/pizza night at UCSF with the perio grads.

  • Nice job!! thank you for the video.:)

  • John,

I enjoy your videos! Could you have used alloderm exclusively across #22-27 facial? Or was a connective tissue graft necessary to get attachment. Keep up the great work.

    Aaron

  • @luvhawaii808 In areas of recession and very thin tissue I feel CT is more predictable than AlloDerm. AlloDerm does attach just like CT and gingival grafting.

  • very nice

but do you prefer alloderm or ct graft from soft palate or subling?

  • @drabod it depends on the tissue type present and the kind of result desired. In any event CT is from the hard palate, not soft palate or sublingual.
