Of course Clark has history with Zod, remember when he fought lex/ general zod and we 'assume' that major zod and clark interact (as in kandor episode we saw zod see clark) and as this is set in the future we assume it will be soon.

What this clip seems to imply is that when lois disappeared, he drifted away from chloe firstly because of the whole jimmy thing but secondly as he said with lois gone he drifted away because chloe reminded him of lois...
