why should u buy this if you can buya nikon p500 thats cheaper...... the p500 can do 240fps is full hd.. the only thing thats better on the canon is that it has 14.1 instead of 12.1 megapixel which isnt a big difference..

@thenerfaholic: Like most americans he pronounces Z the way you would if you were saying Zorro, for instance. The rest of the world pronounces it "Zed" (as it should be), so he means FZ 40.

Also, one thing that I hated about the canon powershot sx130 is that most of the pics turned blurry when trying to take a pic of my kids running or on amusement park rides. It also took horrible night pics. The lighting was way off and pics would almost turn grey. I was at the store and loved the quality pics of the Rebel t3i but can't afford it. I want quality pics like the rebel...is this camera capable of doing so?

I'm really considering buying this camera. I love Canon however my last two cameras were the Canon powershots sx130. The first one my toddler got a hold of and dropped and it wouldn't power on. When she dropped it, it snapped the board inside that powers it on. The second one I was handing to my husband with the lens out and it got caught on my husbands golf club and dropped. The lens is jammed and not worth fixing. Now is this camera durable? Like if I were to drop it? I'm tired of replacing.

@alicee351 : Nikon Coolpix P100 is a 10.3 Megapixle Cam with 26X Optical Zoom while Canon Sx30Is comes with 14 Megapixle with 35x Optical Zoom. However, Coolpix is little bit lighter in weight and easy to maneuver by my personal choice is always Canon Sx30IS.

@ImImpulse No. This isn't a DSLR camera so you can't swap lenses. The 24-840mm lens has a solution for a wide variety of situations so you don't really need another lens on this camera.

Using your car analogy, its like saying everyone wants to be a driver and get a car, sure there are better cars and everyone wants a try driving experience. But these products fool people thinkng they are driving a car when in fact the car they bought is half automated and you are not really in control. Sure the cameras are expensive but you can start low and grow gradually. these cameras doesnt give you space to learn and grow at all. And it still costs quite a lot.

The USM ring is for autofocus, not IS... also you didn't say if the front element rotates during focus, since you don't manually focus on the lens I take it that it doesn't! Though it's pretty good to know if you're gonna be using a circular polarizer for example -.-

What kinda budget you got...if you got some cash to spend look into the canon s95 or if you go with nikon the p300 is really all you need unless your trying to get a dslr looking/feeling camera.

Should I get Fujifilm HS20 EXR or Canon SX30 IS?

I love Fujifilm's manual zooming, high ISO settings and high speed video but without proper image stabilising all those zoom and video makes no sense compared to Canon.

@misteryoungMY go for the Fuji S200EXR and you´ll get great manual zooming and better image quality comparing to the SH20EXR. On the other hand - you´ll get "only"14.3x zoom - but trust me it´s absolutely enough. 30x zoom is useless in real photography (and the lens / picture quality (sharpness, distorsion) is worse than from the 14,3x zoom lens which is known to be very sharp since the S100FS model)
