  • I love Peggy's husky voice on this.

  • This is different...

  • Magic.

  • @SammieWammie14

    its called johnny rockets

  • ah caray, la voz, la interpretación, el estilo, es inconfundible de black singer girls. sorpresas que da la vida.

  • I love the 50's& 60's!

  • Isnt there a place inb the world that is still stuck in this era of music and life? I wanna go!

  • The Beatles "ripped off" Buddy Holly. If you take away their harmonies, their first record was a spitting image of Holly's style and composition. FACT.

  • I'm only 15, but I'd rather listen to 50's and 60's music like this instead of the majority of today's music. :)

  • @1ShineStar1 I agree....I do the same thing and I'm only 21. It's such a shame about the state of music today. I have to listen to 20th century music to be entertained.....SMH.....I love this song too :)

  • The Wanderers!!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG ISAIH MY BOYFRIENDS BACK SO U BETTER WATCH UR BACK

  • hey-la my boyfriend's back...Knopfler used that one on 'Romeo and Juliet'-

  • I'm 63 and, until this second, I thought The Angels were black.

  • @smokiebird06 Hey, I'm older than you, and for many years, I also, thought that they were black.

  • @smokiebird06

That's OK, I'm 59 and I thought the song "Venus" by the Shocking Blue was sung by a guy.

  • @smokiebird06 and thats y you didnt like them right o.O

  • @ITZxJACQUELYNxBITCH Come on. -_-

  • Wonderful and great quality! Thank you. :)

  • Thank goodness Amy W didn't murder this one!

  • @tarron66 she's one of the worse singers I;ve ever heard and trust me I've heard alot of stinkers

  • @hotmn4u I don't think you've heard enough, and I don't trust you.

  • @AlanahMcgee93 Totally. My dads in the other room right now singing this at the top of his lungs..

  • 11yrs old when this song came out. I loved all of the 50's and 60's music!!

  • betta cut out on the double~!!!!!

  • @mshaffer13 LOL!!! I remember using the term "cut out" meaning get the heck outta there!

  • WOW! Execllent sound quality! That's what I'm looking for.

    Thanks for posting.

  • Wow! Awesome as Ever!

    incredible! viewpoints7!

  • i like this song XD 7 year old dancers brought me here o.o

  • when i hear thia song now,it always makes me think back to being a kid watching my ma and pa dancing around the front room singing to each other (scared)! haha

  • i was 2, but loved it and still do

  • love it!

  • That song was 25 years before I was even born.

  • @burseyb 16 years before I was born. But it's timeless!

  • @LedWilde Exactly how old are you?

  • @burseyb 32, almost 33.

  • I'll sing this at work!!

  • Loved the Angels! Great Song too!

  • actually singers today make em sound good :) half the singers today are terrible . least those days you can actually understand the lyrics these days they seem to mumble alot lol making it hard to understanding the lyrics

  • I haven't heard this song and others from this time period for about 45 years and I still remember the lyrics...and I couldn't tell you what I had for lunch yesterday!!!

  • So suppose she overestimates her boyfriend's physical prowess and the subject of the song wins the confrontation? I mean the song doesn't really finish the story.

  • @pcmusicluvr43 Are you serious? This is a classic. Who asked you to listen to this in the first place?

  • why couldn't i find this five months ago. god damn it.

  • Comment removed

  • Couldn't remember this song for the life of me when it was mentioned in Stephen King's 11-22-63 (excellent book, by the way); lovely tune.

  • Thanks!!!

  • I think the first picture of the Angels in the video (0:10-0:20) shows the group's original lead singer Linda Jankowski (Jansen), not Peggy Santiglia. Can anyone confirm this?

  • hey now

  • THE ANGELS are one of the best groups of the early 60's with songs as till, my boyfriends back, a guy with the black eye, cry baby cry, get some education first before you post

  • you brits better learn that you assholes ripped us off far more than we did you jerks and the beatles SUCKKKKKKKKKKKKK

  • @jitterbugger1960 Popular music is based on artists ripping other artists off. And the British contribution to pop music in the '60s inspired many a stateside act, and really, what would the magical music of that decade be without British bands?

Oh, and the Beatles are amazing. Only my 2nd favorite band, but amazing.

  • Adding to that, THE CHIFFONS sued George Harrison over MY SWEET LORD, which is the same melody as HE'S SO FINE. Guess what? They won! There is no question that the Beatles were heavily influenced by American Rock and Roll, and even did authorized covers. But the Beatles were such a big success that they came to overshadow the many others who were the foundation of their success.

  • @RayPointer The Chiffons didn't sue. Bright Tunes, who owned the publishing, sued George Harrison. Later, George bought the copyright to He's So Fine, so he owned the publishing.

  • @Musicvegan01 Naturally it was the original publisher who launched the suit on behalf of The Chiffons. It was announced on the radio that The Chiffons sued as a simplification. I was stationed at Naval Air Station Miramar in the spring of 1977 when I heard this. Apparently there were grounds to the suit, which seemed to have been settled without much drama compared to other such suits. Remember the big suit between Jeffrey Katzenberg and Disney? Now that's another story! :)

  • @JuxtaposeMystery This was cut in 63' butt muncher...way before Hello Goodbye

  • @JuxtaposeMystery Do you mean the Beatles "ripped" off "My Boyfriend's Back"? This Angels song was released four years before the Beatles did "Hello, Goodbye".

  • Comment removed

  • @JuxtaposeMystery It's actually the other way around LOL they ripped it off from this song....

  • @JuxtaposeMystery Plus - the Beatles many times admitted borrowing girl group hooks (even entire songs), including the clapping beat featured in this song, which the Beatles used for "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" a year later. Not to mention full out songs like Please Mr. Postman (The Marvelettes), Boys (The Shirelles), and Twist & Shout (this one not from a girl group but from an early sixties R&B group, The Isley Bros, who in turn had covered the song from someone else).

  • I guess the other guy didn't listen to the Angels because he got punched in the face....the Angels sang all about it in their song THE BOY WITH THE BLACK EYE (featured on their album).

  • my days you can hear the influence this had on amy winehouse rehab. what tunes this & rehab both are.

  • I remember this song. Does anyone know who wrote the lyrics to this thing?

  • Relevant song ▼♪♪♪

  • God I love those teased-up flippy dos

  • These were the 45's I listened to over and over in my teen bedroom. Love all on this page...

  • 5 red people would be invisible in a crowd of 548 people.

  • The Hess Truck is back.

  • @Jessyleppert Just the information we've all been waiting for!

  • Good song, but that was 25 years before I was born.

  • So this chick was seeing a guy while her boyfriend was gone, that guy said he was with her, and then when the boyfriend was returning she pulled a "he'll believe me over you" sort of thing and used her boyfriends size as a threat to deter her other man from telling the world what a tramp she is? Am I misinterpreting this?

  • @MonsterFlicks Her boyfriend left and this other fella hung around bothering her, and telling others that she was with him when she wasn't. So now he has a beating coming.

  • @MonsterFlicks Very much so, you only need to listen to the first bit - 'When I said i wouldn't go out with you you said things that wern't very nice' She said no.

  • Is it weird for a guy to like this?

  • @phxsns1 no lol

  • oooohhhhh If It Was Only this Simple.

  • AAAAAWWWW!!!!That happy time!!!

  • I love this song even though it is an old song!!! I have always loved this song!!! Even though this song came out waaaaay before I was ever thought of, (I was born in 1978), I still love it and have ever since I can remember!!!!

  • I have no right at this clip, but it's a guilty pleasure --ive always loved this song since i was a 5th grader. And ive never had, or had a desire to-have, a "boyfriend" either 'back' or away....

  • Absolutelly fabulous song!!!!!!!!!

  • The 4 people who disliked this must be the ones who got beat up :D

  • dislikes , you have to be kidding hahahahahhahahahah

  • Awkward moment when my dad sings this song..

  • @AlanahMcgee93 age:18, lol stupid k-i-d

  • MAKES ME WANT TO GO BACK....

  • Where have all the true blue American girls gone to?

  • paris bennetts versions sounds better

  • oh, here's where they left the music..... LOL!

  • haha kinda corny song now for 2011....haha!

  • I'm looking for the written out vocal harmonies for this song (particularly when there is more than one line, "Hey-la, day-la my boyfriend's back") Can anyone help please?

  • We're singing this for choir! :) The lyrics are pretty amusing to read lol (Freshmen treble choir)

  • Who should take a permanent vacay?

  • The 60's Rocked, wish i was around in those times!

  • Love the 60's best music ever!!!!!!!

  • Scorpio Rising!

  • My all-time favorite line came from this song: "If I were you, I'd take a permanent vacation." It always give me a laugh!

  • the song feels so slow lol :S

  • My boyfriend's black....

  • Hey guys, thumbs up if you imagine yourself as the boyfriend when you hear this song.

  • @TheNewRiflemanBob, thumb whore fail.

  • @007hor Are you saying that you don't imagine yourself at the boyfriend?

  • @TheNewRiflemanBob, no, I'm saying your request for "thumbs up" failed. But you can denominate that most people (including myself) don't imagine themselves as the boyfriend, hence your lack of agreeing thumbs.

  • @007hor Why don't you imagine yourself as the boyfriend?

  • @TheNewRiflemanBob, why would I? It's a girl's song. When this comes on, I roll my eyes and tell her to "get this shit off".

I bet that's what 'the boyfriend' would do too. Especially if he is as macho as she claims.

  • @007hor so it took you a month to come up with that? wowwwwww..... There are a lot of people who would disagree with you, including me.

  • @TheNewRiflemanBob, It's not like I've been sat mulling over your questions, I only got it last night.

You must keep in mind that this converstation started because you wanted 'thumbs up' from people who agreed with you. We established nobody who has read your comment agrees, because in 2 months you have not got a single 'thumbs up'.

So we can safely say that whoever agrees with you is a minority.

I still say the alpha male type will have better things to do than fantasize over this song.

  • @007hor wow your a real idiot.

  • @TheNewRiflemanBob, it's "you're" not "your".

Read our conversation again, you sound like a lonely fucking weirdo. Now piss off, I've tried to be nice.

  • Does anyone know the name of the movie from 1993 that used this theme song? In the plot, a guy get shot, dies or something and comes back from the dead. I can't remeber the name of the movie. Does someone know, please?

  • @PrettyHalloweenDress The name of the movie was "My Boyfriend's Back", strangely enough. It was about a bloke named Johnny who's in love with a girl at his high school. One day he's in the shop where she works, stops a robbery, and is killed in the process. It didn't get good reviews and lost a lot of money. There was also a 1989 movie by the same name, about a fictitious 1960s girl group who had My Boyfriend's back as their only hit, who regroup 20 years later for a TV special.

  • @tjitjaks Thank you so much. :)

  • Killer beats!

  • yes it was a cheerleader type song. she had sex with the quarterback( tho she denied it) but her 30yr old biker boyfriend who just got outa jail is on his way to kick the shit out of the jock!. my uncle didnt write this song for them nor the shirelles. it was intended for an unamed black girl group tho. this studio version has help from a real pro singer by the way.

  • Legend has that this song evolved from an actual incident overheard in a Brooklyn, NY, candy store...the wonderful Angels' harmony, great lead, energy, and teenage angst in this song make it a major league late summer, 1963, classic...

  • @50Emerald

One of the song's writers was in a Brooklyn malt shop near his old high school. He overheard a teenage girl bee-line to a booth yelling at some boy that he was saying bad things about her and that her boyfriend was back from the army. She told the boy that her boyfriend was going to beat the crap out of him.

  • ♪♫♪ hey-la-dee-la my boyfriend's black ♫♥

  • @Myspcgrrrl if you're a white girl.. you're nothing but white trash...

  • @GR8ISH8 how can u call anyone white trash or anything else when u are not suppose to judge anyone. That is GODS job. Do u know what color he is???

  • This song has such a cheerleader feel to it.

  • My choir is singing this at our last choir.

  • What a great original song...I miss real creativity

  • Música que retrata bem o início dos anos 1960, ingênua, divertida e desfrutável. É pra curtir de verdade!

  • i soo was right the first time i heard this song i was like this is soo from the 60s or 70s.

  • I do remember this August, 1963, hit so well -- the song is supposedly based on an actual incident that took place in a Brooklyn, NY, candy store -- "My Boyfriend's Back" is *primo* Baby Boomer and girl group music -- WONDERFUL!

  • The Wanderers! Great song!!

  • HELP! HELP! Her Boyfriend's back and is gonna kick my but! I need to hide! SAVE ME! I have to take a permanent vacation! I KNEW I shouldn't have said those things about her. But did I listen to myself? NOOOO!!!! That's right I'm the guilty party she's singing about! Just kidding. Just being silly. Cool song thumbs up ;)

  • @bandet888 The Angel's did record a song titled "The Boy With The Black Eye", an answer song to My Boyfriend's Back. It is featured on the album, My Boyfriend's Back.

  • i have been looking for this song for a long time.. i love it so much...

  • wasn't this sung by the shirelles? =?

  • @4231qwertyuiop The Shirelles never sang this unless they did a cover of it. The Angels were the hitmakers in this instance....Nocaro

  • @Nocaro

The record company wanted the Shirelles to record it. The writers liked the Angels' vocals. This led to the writers taking the song to Smash Records, where the rest is history.

  • @Nocaro the chiffons covered My boyfriend's back

  • @4231qwertyuiop nope. these are the original ladies

  • Comment removed
