I've noticed this troubling trend in the media as well. Young men and boys have it harder these days,I think. In a school environment, boys are much more likely to receive punishment for small infractions girls get away with all the time and are wrongly diagnosed with ADHD for simply being their energetic, youthful selves. Well, it's not about empowering either gender, it's actually about creating a kind of androgenous society. One of the big things for that is to level down the masculinity in men, and the feminity in women. You can see that the feminism movement is more about turning women to men. There's a similar agenda going on with men as well. It's very gradual, but in subtle ways they want to create a totally passive, conflict-free society that doesn't think in any way other than collectively.
The DQ ad I think is the most unsettling. TV, for some reason, seems to legitimize the behavior in people's minds, both men and women; They accept it as a common form of courtship because it somehow got paid for and produced. So they think, "Oh, well, if it's on TV that means it has some form of authority." An ad was shown on Vancouver TV a few days ago at supper time depicting a man as a monster who was abusing his family. The implication was that all men share the moster trait. It was put on by a national feminist group but I was so upset by the content I missed the responsible party. Does anyone know more about this ad?

Admittedly I haven't seen these ads, but maybe some men are slobs and lazy, maybe some women buy too many shoes. I don't necessarily think it is evil to poke fun at this. Crass comercials, just another example of pop culture constantly probing new lows, but identifying signs of cultural decline is bulk business these days. More interesting how ads are always presenting the image of the Man-Boy, the irresponsible overgrown adolescent seen in beer ads suggesting this is how men should be.

It's not discrimination. It's not bashing. The closer one fits the image of the majority or entity in power, the more likely they are to be used as an object of ridicule. A man (usually white) is much more likely to be used for comic relief because it would be seen as intolerant to assign that role to anyone else. Besides, when a group really is in a near absolute position of power, a few jokes really can't undermine their social standing. There's no sinister plot. Grow up.

Well, it's not about empowering either gender, it's actually about creating a kind of androgenous society. One of the big things for that is to level down the masculinity in men, and the feminity in women. You can see that the feminism movement is more about turning women to men. There's a similar agenda going on with men as well. It's very gradual, but in subtle ways they want to create a totally passive, conflict-free society that doesn't think in any way other than collectively.

The DQ ad I think is the most unsettling. TV, for some reason, seems to legitimize the behavior in people's minds, both men and women; They accept it as a common form of courtship because it somehow got paid for and produced. So they think, "Oh, well, if it's on TV that means it has some form of authority." An ad was shown on Vancouver TV a few days ago at supper time depicting a man as a monster who was abusing his family. The implication was that all men share the moster trait. It was put on by a national feminist group but I was so upset by the content I missed the responsible party. Does anyone know more about this ad?

The people (men and woman) who push those attitudes are at fault. There are lots of great woman out there sticking up and fighting for us guys and also lots of looser men encouraging the discrimination. Yes, let's work to end discrimination together.

Good on ya, Pandy. The thing that irks me is that feminism claims to be about equality when it has NEVER been about that. If it was, there would be a feminist push to redress these injustices, or improve the achievements of boys in schools, or investigate the dramatic difference in suicide rates between males and females, or investigate the six or so years difference in life expectancy between men and women etc., etc. Feminists have not interest in this. It is about power, let's be honest.

As a direct result of this kind of thing in the media I have ended up in my life severely hating myself. The confidence level in men is now at an all time low.

If you want another shocker. Here in the united kingdom we have many female only car insurance companies and women only gyms you name we got lol :P

Very interesting rant. I find it interesting yet weird that there is a insurance company just for women. I find that weird in my mind. I agree with that fact that men are being downgraded in most of the commercials that are being aired.

I also found the Domino's commercial to be rather amusing and I'm a guy!
Ppl are too damned sensitive. And they use apathetic and immoral justifications for why this or that is wrong when what they are really doing is proving themselves to be an ignorant horses ass, male or female!
