Why do people cap on this game? I actualy enjoyed playing it and going through the day stages, sure the night stages were something different but not something to blame the whole game over. I still don't understand, even the controls weren't that bad.

@vgman94 For me, I like all Sonic games. I even like 3D Blast despite the graphics being subpar and loose controls, because I look past the problems and enjoy it for what it is. And I also like Sonic 06. :) It's unfortunate that people like us flames for our opinion.

Hell, I have had some flame comments in my inbox just recently. 06' is okay with me, but it's not that great. Better than Colors though, which I hate. I can't say I like all Sonic games, but I like most of them. Even the Genesis games. I just find them overrated, but for their time, they're good. People also make problems out of positives such as the Werehog and sword. It's sad.

While this game saved sonic from fading into absolute mediocrity, they need to go back to their roots with Sonic. They need to focus on the speed and simply the speed;that's what Sonic is.

Sonic is far better than just running through levels mindlessly. This game along with many other Sonic games of the 2000s proved that. They innovated the gameplay and still kept the speed in ALL of them. That is Sonic. Freedom and variety with speed as Sonic's signature style, while not letting it be overbearing to the rest of the gameplay.

@Xxandrew01 Sonic's gameplay was alright. Silver's was cool if somewhat repetitive. Shadow's was unfinished. Sonic was revived. Be happy with that. Shadow was a last-minute addition, Silver... I don't know, but he was cool when he didn't act immature. Blaze had great gameplay, but there were others with good gameplay.

Colors fucked everything up with misplaced comedy, a way too light-hearted story and simple gameplay. Sonic always mixed it up. The Werehog, the sword, team gameplay, the guns. SA1 and 2 had different characters to switch gameplay with. All Colors had is fancy power-ups and running. Sonic's soul is gone now.

Pure speed in the day and speed was mixed with the gameplay in Black Knight and Unleashed. Sonic was never without speed, but speed wasn't the only thing Sonic had. That is how it should be. Stop living in the 90s. A franchise needs to change as it ages. Not stop at a certain era.

Most people think that anything after SA2 was mediocre, that Unleashed was horrible, Colors was one of the best, and that Sonic needs to return to his roots. I like how your view is pretty much the polar opposite of that. Franchises do need to age as time goes on, but I doubt any classic Sonic fanboy will admit that. BTW, I preferred Unleashed over Colors. I liked the music, setting, and level design better. Colors wasn't plot-driven enough for me.

(2) ... I like this new Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One game even if it's different (it's been 9 games with nearly the same gameplay. As you said, franchises do need to age), don't mind the change from Alex Mercer to James Heller in the [PROTOTYPE] series (interestingly, same guys who made the Crash Bandicoot games I like) and... Basically, I have unseen opinions on gaming. I agree. Unleashed had better music, the Werehog was epic, the plot was decent, and overall hadd everything Colors was missing.

i have the ps3 version of this and i loved it...true the werehog seemed tacked on i still loved it because i lv sonic and button mashers/climbing games. the only bad thing i found bout this game was the fact you had to find medals to get on levls...rock on sonic
I'll have to agree with all the people saying this song is better than Reach For The Stars. RFTS has some inherent structure problems, and the auto-tune on the singer(s) is damn near unbearable. I mean, this song isn't perfect, but it's definitely better than RFTS.
@andrew Oh, come on. I know we all have opinions, but please. Colors is basically running through each stage with a few extra collectibles/secrets with each stage with a flimsy story. Unleashed mixed it up with the Werehog. Adding a complex combat system with many moves to upgrade and obtain, many secret collectibles including the music, cutscenes and enemy bios from the game, had a more serious tone towards the end and still kept the classic speed gameplay and had those with secrets to find.
@vgman94 Um, I'm sorry, you misuderstood. I never said Unleashed was a BAD game. In fact, I loved it. I just thought Colors was better. Sonic's not all about speed, it's about platforming too. Go play the original Sonic 1, and you'll notice that there aren't actually a lot of moments when you can just run full speed. Unleashed had the Werehog for platforming, but Colors instead opted to just balance Sonic's gameplay to include more platforming without the need to switch to a different character.
@vgman94 Sonic Generations is taking a similar approach, wherein Classic Sonic has more platforming segments, and speed segments are a reward for clearing a tough bit of platforms and enemies (like in the Genesis games). And Modern Sonic plays more like the Sonic in Unleashed, which is basically "Hold the Boost button to win!" And while I will concede that Unleashed did have more extras, that's really just irrelevent fluff when we should be talking about how the games themselves actually play.
@andrewm0123 I count the whole game, not just how they play. The amount of extras account for replayability and that's a big thing with me. I understand that, but the combat also plays a part. The platforming is one thing, but the combat added with platforming made it an overall more vivid gameplay experience, no? Also, by technicality, the Werehog is the same character. Maybe a sub-character in one sense, but more like a transformation.
@vgman94 I know the Werehog technically isn't a different character, but he may as well be. You still have to exit a Sonic level if you feel like playing a platforming level instead, so he plays as if he were an entirely different character. At least with Colors, you can choose basically any level and know you'll be getting both ends of the spectrum instead of having to switch to a different one.
@vgman94 And while the Werehog's gameplay did offer variety, the classic Sonic games prided themselves on simplicity. The term "less is more" certainly applies to Sonic games -- they didn't NEED variety, and I think that's still very much true today. I mean, did Sonic Adventure really need six different characters? No, we really would've been fine with just three or so, or even just Sonic. I like the more simplistic style the Sonic games have gone back to in the last year or so.
@andrewm0123 The old games absolutely NEEDED to pride themselves on simplicity. There wasn't much else they could do. That has changed now. I know we have opinions, but can someone really like 10 rehashes of the same game over a span of 20 years? Tell me how that's logical and fun. Because I don't see how it can stay fun for so long. I mean sure, the same formula with tweaks can be fun if it's a comprehensive one, but run and jump? Aside from Big, the different characters gave you more to do.
@vgman94 I would completely disagree that the old games needed to pride themselves on simplicity. 16-bit games from 1991 were capable of much more than you seem to think. And I'm not saying every Sonic game should play exactly the same. After all, Sonic Colors had the Wisps, and I liked that game a lot. But you have to make sure the feature you're adding to the game actually works and benefits the game. The Werehog felt tacked on, and any character in SA after the first 3 were fairly pointless.
@andrewm0123 How did it feel tacked on? Considering the game was advertised is a 2-sided coin game, it was to be expected to have two different playing styles split 50/50 in the game. The gimmicks, most of the time, though not always, need to change up the gameplay. Not just augment it. Otherwise it becomes a rehash of it's predecessors. At least after a few sequels. It doesn't have to change immediately, but it shouldn't stay too close to it's roots for 10 years.
I know this song isn't Crush 40 ( I would have rather seen Crush 40) , but this song is kinda Catchy , and it's not annoying as heck (eg: Reach for the stars!)

While this game saved sonic from fading into absolute mediocrity, they need to go back to their roots with Sonic. They need to focus on the speed and simply the speed;that's what Sonic is.

@DiseasedMoss Bollocks. Sonic is not simply speed. When will people let that idea die? Sonic needs speed, but that's only an aspect of his gameplay. Sonic is far better than just running through levels mindlessly. This game along with many other Sonic games of the 2000s proved that. They innovated the gameplay and still kept the speed in ALL of them. That is Sonic. Freedom and variety with speed as Sonic's signature style, while not letting it be overbearing to the rest of the gameplay.

@Xxandrew01 Metal Gear Solid is great. I have no care for Dragon Age, Splinter Cell, Fnal Fantasy and DBZ, but that's due to preference. Kingdom Hearts is DISNEY + FINAL FANTASY! How many people aisde furries would like that? I'm not obsessed with them. Just because I like games for reasons your small mind can't comprehend, that does not mean I'm obsessed with Sonic. Also, learn to spell Sonic and learn to write a sentence. Sonic was great from SA to Black Knight. Now he's a retro rehash series.

@Xxandrew01 Sonic's gameplay was alright. Silver's was cool if somewhat repetitive. Shadow's was unfinished. Sonic was revived. Be happy with that. Shadow was a last-minute addition, Silver... I don't know, but he was cool when he didn't act immature. Blaze had great gameplay, but there were others with good gameplay.

@Xxandrew01 You said nearly the exact same comment a lttle while ago. And just like before, it was a shitty comment. From SA1 to Black Knight, things were great. Colors fucked everything up with misplaced comedy, a way too light-hearted story and simple gameplay. Sonic always mixed it up. The Werehog, the sword, team gameplay, the guns. SA1 and 2 had different characters to switch gameplay with. All Colors had is fancy power-ups and running. Sonic's soul is gone now.

@Xxandrew01 Sonic is derived from SOUND. Which makes sense regarding the music. Speed is a part of the gameplay and always was. Pure speed in the day and speed was mixed with the gameplay in Black Knight and Unleashed. Sonic was never without speed, but speed wasn't the only thing Sonic had. That is how it should be. Stop living in the 90s. A franchise needs to change as it ages. Not stop at a certain era.

@vgman94 I like your views on the Sonic games. Most people think that anything after SA2 was mediocre, that Unleashed was horrible, Colors was one of the best, and that Sonic needs to return to his roots. I like how your view is pretty much the polar opposite of that. Franchises do need to age as time goes on, but I doubt any classic Sonic fanboy will admit that. BTW, I preferred Unleashed over Colors. I liked the music, setting, and level design better. Colors wasn't plot-driven enough for me.

I like Raiden (Metal Gear Solid), I think the new Crash Bandicoot games by Radical Entertainent are better than the Naughty Dog games (which I find fun, but overrated). I find The Legend of Spyro sub-series (of Spyro the Dragon) to have better gameplay and a great plot in comparison to Insomniac's titles. (Continued..).

(2) ... I like this new Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One game even if it's different (it's been 9 games with nearly the same gameplay. As you said, franchises do need to age), don't mind the change from Alex Mercer to James Heller in the [PROTOTYPE] series (interestingly, same guys who made the Crash Bandicoot games I like) and... Basically, I have unseen opinions on gaming. I agree. Unleashed had better music, the Werehog was epic, the plot was decent, and overall hadd everything Colors was missing.

I'll have to agree with all the people saying this song is better than Reach For The Stars. RFTS has some inherent structure problems, and the auto-tune on the singer(s) is damn near unbearable. I mean, this song isn't perfect, but it's definitely better than RFTS.
Sonic Colors IS the better game, though.

@andrew Oh, come on. I know we all have opinions, but please. Colors is basically running through each stage with a few extra collectibles/secrets with each stage with a flimsy story. Unleashed mixed it up with the Werehog. Adding a complex combat system with many moves to upgrade and obtain, many secret collectibles including the music, cutscenes and enemy bios from the game, had a more serious tone towards the end and still kept the classic speed gameplay and had those with secrets to find.

@vgman94 Um, I'm sorry, you misuderstood. I never said Unleashed was a BAD game. In fact, I loved it. I just thought Colors was better. Sonic's not all about speed, it's about platforming too. Go play the original Sonic 1, and you'll notice that there aren't actually a lot of moments when you can just run full speed. Unleashed had the Werehog for platforming, but Colors instead opted to just balance Sonic's gameplay to include more platforming without the need to switch to a different character.

@vgman94 Sonic Generations is taking a similar approach, wherein Classic Sonic has more platforming segments, and speed segments are a reward for clearing a tough bit of platforms and enemies (like in the Genesis games). And Modern Sonic plays more like the Sonic in Unleashed, which is basically "Hold the Boost button to win!" And while I will concede that Unleashed did have more extras, that's really just irrelevent fluff when we should be talking about how the games themselves actually play.

@andrewm0123 I count the whole game, not just how they play. The amount of extras account for replayability and that's a big thing with me. I understand that, but the combat also plays a part. The platforming is one thing, but the combat added with platforming made it an overall more vivid gameplay experience, no? Also, by technicality, the Werehog is the same character. Maybe a sub-character in one sense, but more like a transformation.

@vgman94 I know the Werehog technically isn't a different character, but he may as well be. You still have to exit a Sonic level if you feel like playing a platforming level instead, so he plays as if he were an entirely different character. At least with Colors, you can choose basically any level and know you'll be getting both ends of the spectrum instead of having to switch to a different one.

The term "less is more" certainly applies to Sonic games -- they didn't NEED variety, and I think that's still very much true today. I mean, did Sonic Adventure really need six different characters? No, we really would've been fine with just three or so, or even just Sonic. I like the more simplistic style the Sonic games have gone back to in the last year or so.

I know we have opinions, but can someone really like 10 rehashes of the same game over a span of 20 years? Tell me how that's logical and fun. Because I don't see how it can stay fun for so long. I mean sure, the same formula with tweaks can be fun if it's a comprehensive one, but run and jump? Aside from Big, the different characters gave you more to do.

@vgman94 I would completely disagree that the old games needed to pride themselves on simplicity. 16-bit games from 1991 were capable of much more than you seem to think. And I'm not saying every Sonic game should play exactly the same. After all, Sonic Colors had the Wisps, and I liked that game a lot. But you have to make sure the feature you're adding to the game actually works and benefits the game. The Werehog felt tacked on, and any character in SA after the first 3 were fairly pointless.

@andrewm0123 How did it feel tacked on? Considering the game was advertised is a 2-sided coin game, it was to be expected to have two different playing styles split 50/50 in the game. The gimmicks, most of the time, though not always, need to change up the gameplay. Not just augment it. Otherwise it becomes a rehash of it's predecessors. At least after a few sequels. It doesn't have to change immediately, but it shouldn't stay too close to it's roots for 10 years.
