  • Thank God Season 9 took out Jerry's comedy routine at the beginning of every show. Lol.

  • dammit

  • all cause he didn't want to work....dammit.

  • Technically only the western part of the Netherlands is Holland. In practice all Dutch call themselves 'Hollanders' nowadays, except maybe a couple of Frisians. It's quite different from the United Kingdom where parts like Scotland still have a very strong authentic culture and dialect. In the Netherlands you'll find that 90% of Dutchmen living in larger cities, although far outside the part that is actually called Holland, still speak with the Hollandish (standard) dialect.

  • @Rabgein I am one of those Frisians. :P Funny you mentioned Frisians as the exception because I have to admit I frequently rage about the Pars pro Toto. But to be fair, I think it's not only a couple of Frisians who do that. Someone in Limburg or Gelderland probably does not identify themselves as Hollandic.

  • The Netherlands has 12 provinces. Two of these, North- and South Holland, combined form the (nowadays only) geographical area Holland. Holland is a wrongly used pars pro toto (even the Dutch themselves use it wrong). This is because historically Holland had most of the political, military and cultural influence in the Netherlands.

In short: There are Dutch people from the Netherlands who are not from Holland ;-).

  • @maartenjohannes

I find myself trying to explain to people the same thing in regards to England, Great Britain, and the United Kingdom, among others. What is really ironic is when Americans don't get the articulation/distinction. After all, they live in a country which has political, historical, and regional "layers", if you will, and yet most can't articulate anything outside its borders.

  • Honestly I've had these same questions about Holland/The Netherlands

  • Jerry's mustache is very nice!

  • Out of work porn star! xDDD

  • PARACHUTE PANTS!

  • out of work pornstar...thats exactly how he looks...cracks me up every time

  • The reason for the confusion between Holland and the Netherlands is that the two provinces (North-Holland with Amsterdam, South-Holland with Rotterdam and the Hague) were and are the economically most thriving ones. So internationally, most traders people encountered were from Holland ánd the Netherlands, so people just assumed they were the same.

@neianna: "Holland" indeed rolls of the tongue easier than the Netherlands, so everyone: learn the difference, to prevent us from correcting. ^-^

  • Also going way way back in history before the first true settlers our country was covered with forests and swamps and thus obtaining the name Holzland *Houtland or in english Woodland...Holzland> Holland is but a small correction...

  • 1. Holland exists out of two provinces *like states in the USA

    2. Officially the dutch were named after the language spoken in a large part of the country called Diets > Dutch which is can be compared to be the equivalent of old english for example...

    3. The Netherlands is the official name of my country.

Though out of sheer laziness even the dutch from time to time say Holland because it is easier and flows better than the Netherlands...

  • @neianna actually, dont want to be a wiseass :), the official name is the Kingdom of the Netherlands

  • @maussieee Not to be a wise ass but the Kingdom of the Netherlands does not equal the Netherlands. The Netherlands is a constituted country part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Together with Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten(formally Netherlands Antilles until October 10th 2010). Sint Eustatius, Saba and Bonaire while Caribbean are to "small" to be constituted is still public bodies of the Netherlands.

  • @nairobie755 dont be such a wiseass !

  • @maussieee I would really assume people to know that, and even more when said person is from the Netherlands xD

  • @nairobie755 somebody went to check out wikipedia..

  • @maussieee 9 months and thats your reply? But you are right I didn't remember the date, the rest is from me actually passing geography.

  • lol '' i look like an out of worke porn star'' hahahaha George xD

  • its a me marioo0o

    :)

  • The capital of the Netherlands is AMSTERDAM The Hague is the de facto seat of government, but not the official capital of the Netherlands. The role set aside by the Dutch constitution for Amsterdam

Many Dutch make that mistake? Your are one mistake!!!

  • Jerry looks like Mario a little bit.

  • thats not george its BUCK NAKED !

  • I feel like an out of work pornstar.....

    LOL!!!

  • @poephoofd557 and others: Amsterdam is not the capital of Holland/The Netherlands. The Hague is the official capital because that's were the government resides. However, many dutch people make this mistake (as you've just shown).

Netherlands Antilles and Aruba are also part of The Netherlands that's why it's plural.

And only from 1815 to 1831 Holland and Belgium were one.

The dutch are residents of holland not of belgium, flanders or germany.

  • In the past it was the official capital, but it no longer is today. Nowadays it's Amsterdam and The Hague is just the capital of the province Zuid-Holland.

  • hahahaha omg das soo ff funny dude your fucking stupid huuh

  • ''however many dutch make that mistake'' ??

The Hague is not the official capital of the netherlands, Amsterdam is the capital since 1803

(grondwettelijk pas sinds 1983, maar was zelfs op papier de hoodstad sinds 1803 !!)

  • edit : sinds 1808

  • XDXD, it's funny, people from other country's trying to learn us(the dutch) a lesson XDXD, well poeple, i think that we already know WHO we are :P

  • does anyone have the part of this episode when pudy and elanie are yelling about the guy they call vegetable lasagna?? i cant find it anywhere..and is season 9 out yet?:P

    thanks

  • i thought he WAS borat

  • Jerry looks like Borat

  • @JacksonJunior101 if anything, Borat looks like Jerry

  • they sound like they're a couple.

  • Holland is a region of the Netherlands, not the whole country.

  • ehm, i live in the netherlands, and the netherlands is also called holland.

but our country consists of 12 provinces (something like states) and 2 of them were the real 'holland' the other 10 joined later, but thats all ages back.

now holland is just for the netherlands and not a region (my guess, and im quite sure)

  • thats all good and well... "but who are the dutch?!"

  • HAHAHHHA hillarious

  • hahaa are you american? so typical..

HOLLAND=THE NETHERLANDS and no; Holland is not the capitol of Amsterdam. Amsterdam IS the capitol of Holland(or The Netherlands)

  • they look like borat

  • Seinfeld is number one.

  • lol
