@seiya209 Ultra Magnus is the Japanese name for Armada Overload. The use of the name "Ultra Magnus" here is an error in the script.
Overload only appears briefly in the background of one or two scenes, has no speaking parts, and is otherwise primarily used in weapons mode as part of Optimus Prime's über-weapon mode.
@MDthornton83 In Japan, yes. But not in the U.S. where he's known as Overload. The reference to "Ultra Magnus!" is a scripting error in the Armada dub. The figure has its own vehicle and robot modes, but its big gimmick is as a weapons system for Armada Optimus Prime.
In the U.S. the figure was redecoed in white and blue as Energon Ultra Magnus, retaining Overload's combining gimmick.
Do they ever even show Overload/Ultra Magnus in robot mode in the series, in ether version? I only ever remember him flying out of freaking nowhere and slapping on top of Optimus, never saying a word.
That's because the original japanese name for Optimus Prime was Big Convoy. They kinda rushed with releasing Armada to North America and as such there are a lot of inconsistencies within the show.
Robots in Disguise Ultra Magnus was originally called God Magnus in the Japanese version, Car Robots.
Armada Overload was called Ultra Magnus in the Japanese version, Micron Legend. Hasbro later recolored Overload (who was mostly orange) into blue and white as Energon Ultra Magnus.
no Prime is called Ultra Magnus when combined, by overload, jetfire. at least thats what I thought. but i love the combination of this. i want the toy now !!!!!
@TheTrueMoristhecat Ultra Magnus is the Japanese name of the orange guy who forms the cannons on Optimus Prime's shoulders. His correct English-language name is Overload, however they translated it too literally. In another appearance (only in vehicle mode though), he was correctly referred to as Overload.
Unicron is the main theme of Armada, and the characters all fight against him. Unlike Energon where he's mostly just a dead body and a vague presence, or Cybertron where he's not seen at all.
where is ultra magnus in this series?

So let me get this straight, in this series, Ultra Magnus is just an add-on?

@Golan7 Big Convoy was the mammoth in Beast Wars Neo. Micron Densetsu Convoy was just plain Convoy.

Would it have killed the dubbers to be alot more consistant with the names of the Transformers (referring to ALL three Unicron series).

does anyone think overload should have been called ultra magnus to begin with? (and hes white obviously)
cyblox2000 7 months ago
@cyblox2000 Overload is the red one dude
Quintega 5 months ago
@cyblox2000 No, because it would have been a waste of the name since he doesn't do anything exceptform the BFG-9000 on Prime's snhoulders.
