@AnarchyAndrew21 Do you mean the opening Horn solo? Make it sing, slowly and smoothly. Savor the sound of each note, and play with the most beautiful, supported, full tone you can possible produce. That's all. :)
I love this song!!!! Thank you for making beauitful music. I played it at my GMEA District Honor Band Concert. I was almost in in tears after we finished
This piece is absolutely phenomenal. We recently played this at the Indiana State band fest, and the conducter Dr. Francis personally knows Steven Bryant, so he had a slightly better understanding of how it should be played. Fantastic
I love this piece so much. This actually re-inspired me to get back into trying to learn how to compose. Hahaha Would you happen to have any tips? I have the knowledge, but my ideas never flow longer than a phrase or so, and that isn't good for composing a song. I got Finale PrintMusic for Christmas wanting to further my progress and I am considering doing composition as a major. So I guess my main question is how do you keep the idea consistent through out the piece?
@DaGuitarSaxMan You're asking one of the central, and most difficult questions about composing. Developing a single idea into a full piece is the challenge, and I wish I could explain some sure-fire method for doing it, but I don't. I do recommend playing with every possible permutation of your initial idea/melody/motive, and imagine all the different ways it could be orchestrated, broken up into rhythmic pieces, transformed by stretching or compressing the intervals, etc.Hope that helps!
This song is incredible. My freshman year, my band director chose this piece for our symphonic band to play, but we didnt end up playing it cause the other kids didnt have a musical bone in their body. now that im a sophomore in the top band, im very happy to say that we are playing this at our LGPE this year, and it sounds great.
I love this. My high school band in the Seattle area played your piece Bloom, which I really enjoyed playing. This just has so much of the same smooth color and soft sound. It kind of spurs retrospective thoughts if you know what I mean. I think it's a beautiful piece, I hope we play it before I graduate.
When I got my district orchestra folder (Trombone 2), this piece stuck out to me, as it might be the largest collection of rests not put together into one large rest. I was a little weary of it, since I'll be counting rests A LOT, but at least I'll be counting rests to one of the most beautiful works I've heard written so recently.
I love this song! XD We're playing this in the Duncanville HS Wind Ensemble. We play up to measure 36 with flugelhorns, then switch to trumpets. I get mesmerized while playing the piece. Just wonderful! Brilliant! Beautiful! X)
@DatKrunkKid19 Thanks! And thanks for letting me know about the performance - when is it, and who's conducting? Please tell the band I said "hello" and hope you all have a fantastic concert!
at 0:45 there is a rolled chord I think? I became a fan of you then and there. This song is so moving. Being a composition major in college, this gives me such insertion. As a human being, this gives me passion. Thank you.
this is honestly the single most beautiful song i've ever heard, played it in All-County a few months ago, it still brings me to tears.

Who here read the book Darkwing by Kenneth Oppal? I thought of the chiropter Dusk when I heard this. Dusk was my fav character other than Carnessail.
