  • they are from montreal singin about the states, c'mon get real, i think the box is great but remember where you came from

  • This song was all about the height of the cold war. Do your research. *shakes head*

  • i think this helped the hunt on the USSR, as these anti-government views did not help anyone on top in america!

  • Let's get rid of our governments!

  • Man I rememebr this song what talent !! Really!

  • The Box was my first concert ever, opened for Sinead O'Connor in Toronto in 1990..

One of a handful of people who knew who they were. Much love for the Box, great music and great memories.

  • lol the solo is hilarious when youre high

  • heuchlerische schwuchtel

  • i thought this video would have at least a million views, its a great song :D

  • This was such a good song! Why they had to say "Reagan" I don't know... Wouldn't "Mulroney" be better? :-)

  • I doubt this song got any Airplay in the U.S. or USSR. kinda sad

  • @Vauxhall94 It got a LOT of airplay in Seattle... (I don't know if it was played in Texas or Florida), but this was their first hit in Seattle... Followups included "Closer Together" and "Carry On"...

  • This band is still one of my fav's. God bless the BOX!

  • God, why did we let the 80's end?

  • I love the jump at 1:15. It's like a Canadian homage to Van Halen.

  • @EmotionalSponge HAHAHA! David Lee Frog!

  • @rhymepays Too funny! "DavidLEe Frog" indeed! I had a boss from Quebec (an Anglophone, who, imagine this, moved OUT of the province) who referred to the Francophone Quebecquious as "Frogs"...

  • Sass Jordon is easily spotted in their Closer Together video, but did everybody notice that it's Sass that hands Jean-Marc the baby at the beginning of this video!

  • omg.. i've tried finding this song forever!!! i thought i was going crazy! guess i'm not really crazy after all :D

  • @iheartsupernatural You're not crazy. It's a great song.

  • The U.S.S.R. alone indicates that it's the 80's.

  • great anti-war song

  • Tackling two issues, the cold war and racism, even if it was the '80's ... good job.

  • anyone think that the fighting between the 13 tribes will ever end? Utopia?

    ....aha.

  • @xpandion

    ?between? the 13 tribes?

  • Tackling two issues, the cold war and racism.... good job - even if it was the '80's.

  • aww little baby crying lol but great song lol i remember it

  • omg i loove this song

  • They are a really good band i was down visiting family in montreal and had a chance to see them perform live years ago

  • That's Sass Jordan handing over the baby at 0:10

  • As for Sass Jordan: one of the FINEST people I've ever dealt with 'professionally'. Don't diss this woman: she can sing; she can deliver on every level.

  • @EasilyWowed

I always loved when Sass woud show up at the odd gig around town.

    She's lovely.

  • @thegirl44 I LOVE Sass Jordan... Someone said "with that passing of Teena Marie, only Taylor Dayne is a white girl who sounds like a black girl". I submit Sass J, Nancy M, Melissa, and Lisa S. as ALL "white girls" who sound "black"...

  • This is a great song- I think the political references were just a trendy subject at the time- Cold War issues, alot of the movie plots during this time period were around the threat of Nuclear war- Genesis "Land of Confusion"- the name escapes me but the band that did- 99 Red Balloons" its just what people were worried about at that point- So the relevance of them writing about Canada isn't there so much..because it was US and USSR nuking each other that we worried about..which trumps Trudeau-

  • Not trendy. Humanitarianism is as alive as ever. We are all one.

  • @MontrealMMA Not trendy as far as humanitarianism, I was referring to the USA vs USSR Cold War phobia- It was actually a response to the question posed below, as far as "Being odd that a Canadian band would sing about the US and USSR" -Just saying I don't think it was odd at all =)

  • Anyone else think it's odd how a FRENCH-CANADIAN band is singing about the policies in the USA and USSR?? They had plenty to sing about with Pierre Trudeau as Prime MInister.

  • i live in Canada, trust me Canucks are socialists.

  • I am pretty sure that PET wasn't the prime minister in 1987

  • He wasn't, it was Mulroney. I wasn't making a 1987 reference, I was making a political one to PET.

  • It was Quebec's Brian Mulroney: he was the Prime Minister in 1987.

  • @EDITION420 Imagine two men who really don't like each other, standing 20 feet apart, shouting about who has the bigger handgun and who can draw it faster... and your feet are glued to the floor standing between them. Does the coffee stain on your shirt seem like a big deal? ;)

  • @EDITION420

Simply Red "Money's Too Tight To Mention".

Brits singing about Reaganomics during Thatcherism lol.

I guess that singing about US politics got you airplay then.

  • Brian Mulroney would have been our Prime Minister when this first came out,or at least when I first saw it.

  • "The soviet rambo"! hes a musician now!! since the old system dissolved, the whole old eastern block has been expoloding with fantastic bands!...proof!>>>>>"Slot-Betrayer"

  • the message got through... the 80's had soul... this song seriously rocks!

  • Comment removed

  • Braktooth, Sass Jordan was one of "The boxes" back-up singers during this time period, and if I recall correctly stole the show and was an obvious standout performer even back then.. Remarkable talent.

  • These guys once played at the old Diamond Club in Toronto when I lived next door to it. My bedroom wall was about 15 feet away from the club wall. The Box was the loudest band that ever played that place!

  • Sass dumped him with the baby and took off with some guy !

  • Still a great tune.

  • j'aime bien le vidéo MAIS JE N'AIME PAS LE DRAPEAU AMÉRICAIN EN ARRIÈRE SCÈNE

  • @theytstyle

Moi aussi je n'aime pas... mais...

C'est peut-être une référence aux USA...

Il y a même l'hymne nationale des USA qui joue vers 2:30, alors disons que c'est une sorte de critique du «monde ordinaire»...!

  • Wasn't this song instrumental in helping dissolve the Soviet Union in the 1980's?

  • @madcapromanian either that or the war i bet

  • Hey, any group that kept putting Sass Jordan in their videos had something going for them. :-) Seriously, I loved this group.

  • This American thanks CFNY 102.1 "The Spirit of Radio" for bringing this, and many other great Canadian acts to our airwaves, at least to those of us adventurous enough to play with the tuning knob now and then to seek refuge from the "classic rock" rut so many of our stations were (and to some extent, still are) stuck in. And merci beaucoups to Montreal, for so much good music that has come since!

  • I heard this one on the radio and thought "whoa that's an oldie"

  • Didn;t these guys do a video with Canadien players in it?

  • so why are you looking it up on youtube than

  • AWSOME SONG ! GREAT BAND !

  • "...and it don't matter"

  • this songs **** rocks

  • wow, omg, I heard this as a kid, closer togather ,I think was a big hit also

  • anybody have the guitar tabs of this song ?

Quelqun aurais les tabs ou accords de cette chanson?

    Merci :)

  • Oh man, what a video to stumble upon! I remember hearing this song all the time as a kid.

I was like 5 when this came out. I used to get the singer confused with Bruce Springsteen for some reason. I think I was mixed up between The Box and The Boss.

  • The lead singer even resembles Bruce Springsteen,so your ambiguity is not unfounded.

  • Brilliant song!!

  • Top notch tune. I bought the CD from Amazon and still listen to several times a year. Thanks for the post.

  • I have a number of thier songs on MP3, including this one

  • Done.

  • Well donf. Please don't delete me.

  • Man, 15 years I have been looking for this song, I had no success trying to find who recorded it for this long. Thanks for posting it.

  • I'm glad your search is over :-)

  • mine too. I havent seen this since I was a kid. I didnt even know where to begin to look because I had no idea who the artist was. thanks a million for posting this.

  • 'We have ordinary problems and ordinary fears

We go take care of our business

Life goes on, and nothing changes'

And that's the problem about ordinary people.

  • I love this Vancouver-Montreal Band! I was listening to them when I was on a road trip

  • Je les ai vues au Quartier Dix Trente à Broosard, excellent!

  • My god he was so scary skinny.

  • Finally, these are the songs I am looking for!

  • love this song and their sound

  • Damn...you should have kept the tape playing and let us see that Helix video

  • love this Montreal band...an expat Canadian in Australia.

  • These guys were a great band. Sass Jordan was a back up singer for them for those of you who didn't know/.

  • @ElectricPineapple79 Thanks,because I actually never knew that!Then again,I don't even know a whole lot about the group itself.

  • @exutuberejectee:

Do you happend to have the "I'm back" video from Closer together album of The Box ?

  • I would've posted it,if i had it.

  • Ok thanks. What about the 'John of Mark' high quality song ? :)

  • I've found 3 brand new Box LP's at the salvation army so when i have a little extra time,i'll record them and post them.

  • What website did you put these tunes on. I love this 1 and Crying Out For Love. I was on a road trip for 2 month. I made it all the way to New Brunswick

  • I've found 3 brand new Box LP's at the salvation army so when i have a little extra time,i'll record them and post them.

  • Nice to see it after all those years. It's just remember me that had a pony tail. Answer for Andrewd104; They had couple good success, they tour across Canada. They were enough popular to be the band for the Canadian Stanley Cup party in 86 at the forum. One of my best moment. Thank exutuberejectee

  • is there anyway to download this song on to my computer?

  • it is downloaded into your temp. int. files as you watch it but in flash form so you need a player thet can play it.

  • The Soviet Union has never collapsed, only the media who hates them love2use that word.Just because they let go of a few teritory, they're still a very powerful nation in the world and still twice as big as Canada which is the second biggest and i hope Russia will maintain her powerful status in the world after all they and china are the only ones that can prevent the full spread of the american "culture"

  • yeah that american culture is horrible...all those freedoms and stuff...it's a wonder they catch on at all

  • This song is one of my favorite songs from them, and I like the message it sends even though the Soviet Union collapsed 16-17 years ago. I think they could've shot a better video, though. They should've interspersed some footage of ordinary Soviet people in this video - if any footage existed outside of the Soviet Union back then.

  • The Box rules!

  • hey its from video hit whit samanta taylor

    wow

    gr8 deal

more clip from he box and video hits

    cheers

  • I have most of their songs (audio only) and i'll upload the best ones soon.

  • @exutuberejectee This is actually the only Box song I ever heard or video I've ever seen.I loved this back in '87 when I first saw it,but find irony in the fact that they're a French-Canadian group singing about the then-Cold War betwen America and the then-Soviet Union.

  • thanks 4 the post

  • You're very welcome.

  • Great Song! I heard on the radio and laughed when I heard him play the Soviet Anthem as a solo, glad to see this video is on YouTube!

  • Yeah, and they're Quebecois on top of that!! No fleur de Lys to be seen either :-) Do you know if they were successfull (aka did this song chart well on billboard ?)

  • Wow, I completely forgot they had a video for this song. Thanks for posting!

  • Anytime.

  • Stuff by The Box is becoming harder to find everyday...thx for posting.

  • Pleasure.
