@Vauxhall94 It got a LOT of airplay in Seattle... (I don't know if it was played in Texas or Florida), but this was their first hit in Seattle... Followups included "Closer Together" and "Carry On"...
@rhymepays Too funny! "DavidLEe Frog" indeed! I had a boss from Quebec (an Anglophone, who, imagine this, moved OUT of the province) who referred to the Francophone Quebecquious as "Frogs"...
Sass Jordon is easily spotted in their Closer Together video, but did everybody notice that it's Sass that hands Jean-Marc the baby at the beginning of this video!
As for Sass Jordan: one of the FINEST people I've ever dealt with 'professionally'. Don't diss this woman: she can sing; she can deliver on every level.
@thegirl44 I LOVE Sass Jordan... Someone said "with that passing of Teena Marie, only Taylor Dayne is a white girl who sounds like a black girl". I submit Sass J, Nancy M, Melissa, and Lisa S. as ALL "white girls" who sound "black"...
This is a great song- I think the political references were just a trendy subject at the time- Cold War issues, alot of the movie plots during this time period were around the threat of Nuclear war- Genesis "Land of Confusion"- the name escapes me but the band that did- 99 Red Balloons" its just what people were worried about at that point- So the relevance of them writing about Canada isn't there so much..because it was US and USSR nuking each other that we worried about..which trumps Trudeau-
@MontrealMMA Not trendy as far as humanitarianism, I was referring to the USA vs USSR Cold War phobia- It was actually a response to the question posed below, as far as "Being odd that a Canadian band would sing about the US and USSR" -Just saying I don't think it was odd at all =)
Anyone else think it's odd how a FRENCH-CANADIAN band is singing about the policies in the USA and USSR?? They had plenty to sing about with Pierre Trudeau as Prime MInister.
@EDITION420 Imagine two men who really don't like each other, standing 20 feet apart, shouting about who has the bigger handgun and who can draw it faster... and your feet are glued to the floor standing between them. Does the coffee stain on your shirt seem like a big deal? ;)
"The soviet rambo"! hes a musician now!! since the old system dissolved, the whole old eastern block has been expoloding with fantastic bands!...proof!>>>>>"Slot-Betrayer"
Braktooth, Sass Jordan was one of "The boxes" back-up singers during this time period, and if I recall correctly stole the show and was an obvious standout performer even back then.. Remarkable talent.
These guys once played at the old Diamond Club in Toronto when I lived next door to it. My bedroom wall was about 15 feet away from the club wall. The Box was the loudest band that ever played that place!
This American thanks CFNY 102.1 "The Spirit of Radio" for bringing this, and many other great Canadian acts to our airwaves, at least to those of us adventurous enough to play with the tuning knob now and then to seek refuge from the "classic rock" rut so many of our stations were (and to some extent, still are) stuck in. And merci beaucoups to Montreal, for so much good music that has come since!

Nice to see it after all those years. It's just remember me that had a pony tail. Answer for Andrewd104; They had couple good success, they tour across Canada. They were enough popular to be the band for the Canadian Stanley Cup party in 86 at the forum. One of my best moment. Thank exutuberejectee
The Soviet Union has never collapsed, only the media who hates them love2use that word.Just because they let go of a few teritory, they're still a very powerful nation in the world and still twice as big as Canada which is the second biggest and i hope Russia will maintain her powerful status in the world after all they and china are the only ones that can prevent the full spread of the american "culture"
This song is one of my favorite songs from them, and I like the message it sends even though the Soviet Union collapsed 16-17 years ago. I think they could've shot a better video, though. They should've interspersed some footage of ordinary Soviet people in this video - if any footage existed outside of the Soviet Union back then.
@exutuberejectee This is actually the only Box song I ever heard or video I've ever seen.I loved this back in '87 when I first saw it,but find irony in the fact that they're a French-Canadian group singing about the then-Cold War betwen America and the then-Soviet Union.
