Is this transformer from a small "wall wart" = mains supply for small AC or rectified appliance such as a answering machine? I assume it is running "backwards"?
unfortunatelly I can't put schematic on this video now, it's just a reply to some researchers; but yes, it's just a core from any FB, and circuit is the same as any JT (TROS) with many turns secondary
i can light cfl from 12V without transformer :P from 1.5V too, but 20W cfl still takes 20W and get 20W from 1.5V battery :D

no, Craig, this's a flyback core with hand wound coil, and the transistor (actually it's oscillation, doing the trick)

@Mopozco I assume then the flyback transformer primary was rewound? was this from an old CRT or TV ?
Is this circuit available?
I have used circuits from 120 V CFL's to drive standard florescent, even the 13 watt ones drive a 40 watt 40" quite nicely

after many uses it's 1.35v

light comes from gas exiting due to hf oscillation of electrons in bulb's "spiral"
