@kzelmer I think, Scriabin's recording is a bit strange. Strange for his early works. As I know it was performed by A. S. in 1910 and by that time he had already been a bit "spoiled" by the symbolism and his ideas of The Final Mystery, if you know what I mean. I'd really like to listen to him playing this Etude on is premiere. I bet it was totally different from what we listen to in the Welte Mignon recording.
I've played Erlkonig and Horowitz's repeated chords at 1:18 boggles my mind every time I hear it. This kind of neurotic mad dog virtuosity sometimes produced awe-inspiring results.
A fixture in Horowitz's interpretations at 0:37, always a tone color change there no matter the stage of Horowitz's career.
The manipulation of the pedal at 1:40 is genius too.
This has all the personal mannerisms of Horowitz....just a bit more neurotic than usual; this recording was made during his reclusive-depressive period.
Good, but Scriabin own version is PERFECT...Listen to it.

This is beautiful. I love Scriabin's version but Horwowitz seems to have more passion and heart in playing this piece.

Cette interprétation m'a submergée comme si je ne pouvais plus entendre que ça. C'est sur cette étude que j'ai découvert Horowitz, un génie, unique.

Second best. Check the video of Scriabin performing the Etude on a Welte Mignon.

seems more careful, less demonic than he would be 25 years later, almost cautious. :)

Superb performance! I really like the photo and how it brings a sense of character to the great pianist.

I also like the way he organizes the rhythm at the end, so that the emphasis rests on the two chords at the top of the keyboard, very singular.
