The video is real, but it is probably taken out of context. Dave has never really appeared to have a huge ego. He is aware of Nirvana's status in history, but he always reminds people that he was the 5th drummer and got lucky the band hit it big, when he joined. My bet the full clip of this shows that Dave was actually messing around.
