The .700 Nitro is a relatively new cartridge, made in around 1988. The rifles made by Holland& Holland (H&H) are known as Double Rifles. They may look similar to a double barreled shotgun, yet there are big differences. Obvious ones being the barrels are rifled and the action is much stronger.

It is in no way a military cartridge, it is one of the most powerful Sporting Cartridges in the world.

The use of these rifles are for stopping the charge of an Elephant/ Cape Buff and Rhino.
