Very accurate as well as interesting. I would have hoped that the documentary would have gone back further in time to the first "hickup", several hundred years before the Edward 4th.

An interesting documentary. But the Hastings would have been a completely different family had they succeeded to the throne. They too would have married other royals, may have ended up being just as German as the current royal family. They certainly would have settled on a few names, thus eliminating the need for a Barbara the first or Michael the first. Michael would never have married an Australian commoner, etc. We will never know what would have happened in this alternative universe!

@88MPJ Well... honestly, I've never seen any President being "productive" as well. Take the example of my country - they've all been lawyers or engineers, and when they end their term, they simply get the biggest reform pay check of my country. It's not a better future than that which you have now. I'd prefer a King who at least showed some military marches and royal marriages, than a President who sticks in his two national palaces, and does nothing more than making national problems worse.

But I think we need to see the pros and the cons, and in a majority decide what regime serves us better. For example, for my country, I do believe a Constitutional Monarchy would suit us better. As well as Serbia and Italy (and even the UK). But that's my opinion.

Amazing how the whole course of England's history (and I would argue the history of the whole world) hung over the legitimacy (or lack thereof) of Edward IV. If his legitimate brother had been King instead, there would have been no Henry VIII, no Elizabeth I, no English Reformation (I argue that the world is the way it is because of that), England would be Catholic, Scotland would be a separate nation, and so on! Amazing! Long live Michael of Plantagenet-Hastings!

This is very interesting but I thought the biggest "genetic break" was not between the Plantagenets and the Tudors but between the Stuarts and the Hanovers (Windsors) who were only distant cousins, not much closer than 2 randoms really. If you really must take this seriously Prince William is more 'royal' than the Queen since Diana was a direct decendant of Charles II.

Exactly. There are loads of alternative successions, this is just one of them. It is impossible to say who WOULD have been on the throne, being the monarch may have have meant that some were killed in battle before they had children, ruining the succession.

We should all just accept that the current monarch is HM Queen Elizabeth II and she ain't going nowhere!
