It's not that the movie ruins the book but it alters the way you imagine the story. When you first read a book your imagination is running wild with different pictures but then you read it again after the movie and the way you try to imagine it again is different. But there's nothing wrong with seeing it in the mind of someone else.

@raeannatremp actually Jake Abel is pretty buff, that's an old-ish picture, but in Percy Jackson he looked pretty fit, at the very least he's reasonably muscular. He's also a really good actor which is what counts after all.

actually Jared is suppose to be like 30? and Max Irons is 26. While Jake Abel is 24 and Ian is suppose to be like 23-25 or something? So the ages are alright. who ever cast the movie did a terrible job. no offense to the actors they just don't suit the roles. ronan looks nothing like Melanie. shes a terrific actress and could an amazing job with this story line but shes looks more like wander (the body shes given after melanie returns). and max would fit Ian alot better. he has the heart but not the brawn that is display of jared in the book. the movie might work with this line up however compared to the book it seems like it will be a dissapointment.

I don't understand why everyone says the movie will ruin the book. Novels are always being adapted into movies and there's always going to be differences since the media form is being changed and it's not possible for everything to stay the same.

600 page story + 2 hour time slot = very difficult.

There's no need to get so upset about it. If you're really that offended by a movie being made than I suggest you don't see it when it comes out. (Maybe just read the book again)

Actually Melanie and Jared love each other, but then Wanderer inhabits Melanie's body, and she also starts loving Jared. Meanwhile, Ian falls in love with Wanderer. SPOILER: Ultimately, Wanderer realizes she likes Ian too and they both get end up together, while Melanie and Jared end up together too (how, that is for you to read the book/watch the movie) xD

It can't be a casting fail since movies, for the most part, are based on acting ability. Now if you mean casting fail because you don't think the chosen actors are what you had in mind, then it's more of a fail on your part for not recognizing that book and film are two separate mediums. So calling casting fail right now is premature; the only way "casting fail" makes any sense if the actor fail to be believable. Ronan can act. Abel I heard has promising chops.
