My PSU went out over the weekend, well it powers on, but doesn't boot the PC, quite strange for this to happen when everything else powers on fine. I bit the bullet and ordered a new Corsair 750 Watt TX V2. I sure didn't want too, but this spare 350 Watt I'm using isn't going to power it forever. I'd say for modular PSU get it if you are using a small case, Full Tower to Mid size case you can hide the cables in the back of the case if it's a newer PC Case quite easily.
Most mid tower cases now, even the cheap $50 ones, are coming with cable routing holes. That alone makes everything a lot more neat even if you have non-modular. The only point I see in going with the $120+ PSUs is if you need the higher efficiency and possibly a bit more wattage.
@Atheismrulez yes it is for most cheap cases. I was thinking of going modular too, but I had a bad experience with an Antec PSU that was modular and just reluctant to get another one. I'll say that you should avoid the Fully modular ones and go with Semi-Modular. Fully Modular is just dumb, it's not like your not going to need the power to the motherboard and a few Sata power connections.
Yeah. Kinda bugs me when people recommend the AX series from Corsair over the HX simply because it has modular motherboard and CPU connectors and 2-3% higher efficiency. They're $25-30 more expensive.
Even stupider is that Corsair expects people to pay $190 for the AX850 when you can get a CM Silent Pro Gold 1000W for $200 and the XFX Pro XXX 850W for $155. The SeaSonic SS-850HT is even available for $125, and there's the Corsair TX750 V2 for $100.
I've had this power supply for about a year and it's worked flawlessly, stable voltages and everything but it has the most annoying coil whine. Heavy load makes it whine a helluva lot, which is extremely annoying since my goal was to make my PC near silent at any load (<1000rpm case fans, heatsink with 2 <800rpm high static pressure fans, rubber fan mounts, SSD etc.)
if i build a pc will a 500 watt be good for about 3 SATA hard drives and a 1GB ati 6750,core i3 @ 3.1ghz (stock) the PSU i want is called the "Rosewill RV2-500 500 W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V SLI Ready Power Supply" off newegg for $40
@muk546 yah, should be good. I'm pushing my 750 watt corsair by running an i7 920, 12GB of ram, dual nvidia 570's, 2 solid state drives, and 4 1 TB HDDs. I personally go with the corsair brand for PSU, but the 500W rosewill sounds fine for what looks like a budget build for yourself.
Yes, it's enough, but don't get it. It has crappy internals and tons of them are DOA (Dead on Arrival). The worst part to skimp on a computer is the Power Supply. For $40 you can get the Antec EarthWatts EA-380D on Provantage. Get that instead.
While that Rosewill unit says it can deliver 500W, in reality it's a 300W unit. Don't buy Rosewill PSUs.
Hmm, not a very good buy at this time. V2 came out and it costs the same, and it has higher efficiency and is based on a newer design with more ripple suppression (has higher electrical quality). The Antec NEO ECO 620C is based on a better design than the TX650 and costs $70, $20 less than you get this for. If you have $90-100 for a new Power Supply, just go for the TX750 V2: it's $105 and has a lot more features than the TX650 V2.
What are the specs of your pc?

Unless you change your mothboard or add hardrives frequently, then modular is not needed.
xep00 7 months ago
@xep00 No, its mostly for wanting the inside of your computer to be very neat and tidy without alot of cable management work.
iAppleMUSIC 7 months ago
@xep00 It makes it neater inside and helps with airflow. Less cables in the way mean more air is getting to your parts to keep them cooler.
