You wont get too far with that 90hp Mercury. It was built for torque. Its a ski boat engine. Fun never the less but you need a 115 Mercury. I have been working on these for years. You might get 60mph out of the 90 but with a 115 it would be crazy fast.
Watching this thing run the way you have it trimmed makes my skin crawl waiting to see you stuff it!! Your asking for it. your almost begging for it. However I'd love to see you stuff it on video LOL!
only 40 mph? That's pretty darn good for a boat so small. Don't forget-the longer the boat the faster it will go. And you have like a tilt saver on there. When you're running full speed the motor should go up.
I would really recommend some trim. I saw your worried about it getting squirrely but that is soooo much safer than riding with the nose that low. That design is not meant to ride on the water like that. That WILL nosedive when you hit the right wave. Would hate to see someone get hurt.
@mattspidermanking don't be scared to trim it. Pick it up until it starts bouncing from side to side (or chinewalking) and steer out of it, you'll love the result.
please tell what the plan kit was called for this boat, i want to build on in the worst way

I had a 17ft Chriscraft ski boat w/ the same motor that would go over 45mph. U should be getting at least 55mph. Something's not correct.

He's right. Hydroplanes are meant to ride on a cushion of air. To reach a good speed you should at least be trimmed even to get air under the hull

Nice hull! You could sure use a jackplate or a 15" motor for that. Looks great!
