  • Yes this was the best opening. The worst one was the last one. Plus I think this was when Barbara Crampton came in as Mindy. They had some horrible actress named Ann Hamilton on there before, She only lasted about two months, she was the very WORST actress Guiding Light had.

  • It's kinda ridiculous, because even if the replaced soaps with game shows, they would still be losing money and nobody would be watching it anyway... so why not sontinue airing GL? if not they should just shut down CBS daytime completely

  • Did I see Lujack in there (Vincent Irizarry?) I could have sworn he was gone from the show by then.

  • No, that was Nick Mchenry. same actor though.

  • Vincent Irizarry portrayed Lujack's twin. Alexandra must have had the twins by C-section under general anesthesia, since she didn't even know she'd had two babies, not one. Eric sold Nick to the McHenry's, who were desperate for a child of their own.

Unfortunately Nick inherited the Spaulding Power Hunger gene, with a strain of manipulator along for the ride. He started out as an okay guy. For Vincent Irizarry.

  • Is that Jena at 0:15

  • Yes it is. I always loved this opening sequence, too bad they didn't keep it. I would have loved to have seen clips with Olivia & Natalia.

  • the 90's... definitely some nostalgia happening on my end!

  • Thanks for this. Holly was the best character of all time.

  • Who is the blonde shirtless guy at 0:24? Character and actor name if you know? Thanks!

  • That's Dylan, Reva and Billy's long-lost son. He was a personal fave of mine. He was played by Morgan Englund.

  • Thanks for the info! :)

  • That was Reava's son Dylan

  • who is the woman before Josh at 0:17?

  • Hi it is Alexandra Spaulding played by Marj Dusay

  • It's been over a decade since they used this opening....but when I see this, I still get goosebumps, and I'm reminded of the good old days of my youth, and watching GL every afternoon after school. I'm quite lucky that I remember it in it's heyday, and have been able to enjoy "the Light" for the greater part of my life. It's a punch in the gut to know that after the 18th, all i'll be left with is my memories :(

  • GL was so much fun to watch "back in the day". Now it's a chore; I'm only watching to see how it ends.

  • im going to misss this show GUIDING LIGHT

  • The long opening version of Guiding Light from 1991-1997.

The short opening version was from 1997-2002.

  • I remember watching this my grandma to. When I was like 5. She's still alive though. I was mesmerized seeing all of the colorful lenses and sparkly colors.

  • The show lost alot after Beverlee McKinsey ( Alexandra Spaulding )left the show, the class act and subtle way of acting went out the window. Boy even now she is missed. Always hoped her and Fletcher would be to-gether as a couple on the show.

  • She was even more of a loss to AW when she left around '79 or '80

  • i was named after josh on this program

  • Bridget, Mindy, Nick, WOW this is when GL was the best!

  • Go to the 1992 opening and you'll see Harley dancing. I thought in the beginning she was a "femme fatale".

  • This one was scary to me at first. At my late Grandmother's house I was paralized, when I first seen this blasting light in that beacon at night. But adored the CGI glass beacons. I like to add the rain to my autistic version.

  • Are you sure this opening isnt from 1994 because Dylan is in the opening scenes, and he left GL at the end of 1994.

  • Technically, Dylan left Jan 3, 1995. It would have taken time to update the credits. They weren't immediately updated to reflect changes in the cast.

  • The best damn intro period!

  • @9291987 No, the best opening for this show is still the 1975 to 1981 opening. But in terms of the spinning light house openings it's best days were before Harley and the original Mallet married and left Springfield in September 1993 when they had the dancing Harley in the montage (the opening that started in January 1991). No matter which character they used at the end, post-Harley's first departure in the opening montage (Tangie, Dinah and then Reva), dancing Harley was the best.

  • Can you post one of the openings from an episode from the first few months of 1992? I'd love to see one of the first spinning lighthouse openings that the beats were timed better (as they are here), but also the spinning from the lighthouse wasn't going too fast, and the one that included both Holly, Beverly's version of Alex, but also had Harley dancing at the end?
