This was produced for the 16mm "home movie" market [Official Films was one of the leading companies that offered 16 and 8mm entertainment films for home use at the time].
I remember when I showed my friend this on video. We were both drinking hot chocolate, and when Santa first came up, he exploded in laughter so much that he spit the cocoa out and all over the TV
I had the misfortune of watching a 16mm print of this at last year's Thrillville Christmas film fest at the El Cerrito Speakeasy theater. Can you imagine this on the big screen? This short has haunted me ever since.
@matbergman puppets in general are a bit creepy. I have a whole playlist dedicated to them! Check out the Punch and Judy one... it pretty much teaches violence is fun. But my fav is a fab version of "Night Before Christmas" with a Santa that will make you lose sleep.
I have this same short on a DVD of old public domain Christmas cartoons & etc. The puppets scared the heck out of my son the first time we tried to watch it - he was like "Turn it off Daddy! PLEEEEASE turn it off!" hahaha. We haven't watched it since.
When the frog says "hurry up" at 0:38 he sounds exactly like Edith Massey in Pink Flamingos saying "hurry up"

Wow, I remember seeing this once when I was little. Ah, sometimes the classics are better than the modern times.

There are far more animals than children. Kitty Kat should have told Santa to take the job and shove it.

Well, then there's the argument that we are actually all animals. But, I'm allergic to kats. :-)

And I'm allergic to hand puppets. If either of us sneezes this Christmas we'll know which Santa we got.
