  • At the dawn France/Belgium I thought of world war one soldiers..would they too have awoken at that place, too, nearly a century ago..when you then mentioned ''ghosts'' formed by the mist, it was quite poignant..

  • @Oakleaf700 I had an experience in November 2008. I was alone, it was very foggy in eastern France - very close to where the line was and I parked my car in a deserted car park. There was a continual drip drip drip on the car - probably from a tree. I am not frightened of things like that but I could see how someone may be.

I have film from the journey but it was just too dark to film anything!

  • @alanheath I would think that spirits of all those brave young men [on ALL sides] who lost their lives would hopefully be in a better place. But the WW1 soldiers would have seen dawn rise just as you did, and dawn was a ''risky time'' i have read, for sudden attacks. Amazing how the land recovers from the ravages of War.

  • @Oakleaf700 Certainly - the dawn stand to. I think dawn is the most attractive part of the day - particularly in summer!

  • @Oakleaf700 Yes, it is..we live in the west, and driving towards Shepton Mallet early you get mists like a sea, and the tops of hills and the Glastonbury tor..and it looks magical.Lots of rivers around. Next time you go, I expect you will think of the soldiers, cooking up their breakfasts in their mess tins..bless them, they have all passed away now, on all sides.

  • @Oakleaf700 What a great place to live! I did my basic training nearby on Exmoor!

  • Hey is are you half polish half english? As I see your writing polish is perfect and english as well :D tell something about yourself.

  • @Iastinn No, I am 100% British and no Poles in my family at all. My family has been in the UK for hundreds of years! I have written quite a lot about myself on my channel page!

  • if ferry is then cheaper and by night and all, how mutch does it cost then ?

coz then if its like really that cheap and all then maybe i can go more than annual or bi-annual by car to the u.k. & all

thanks for letting me and us know that :)

loved the movie & all very good info and everything and nice movies & all

    bye bye

  • @SpeedManiac1976 I think I paid GBP20 - go to the website of Norfolk Lines. It takes around one hour longer than Eurotunnel (including messing around time). At night the advantage is that you can get a bit of rest - although I doubt you can get much sleep. During the day it is much more expensive.

  • @alanheath3

    1 HOUR ?

    ...........

ok with eurotunnel you don't need to wait for nothing even if your 3 hours earlier then planned, they just change the time for the next train if theres room left & all ...

i'll give it a try for a party in u.k. or something to check out 20 pounds is rediculous cheap lol, even more cheaper then french roads that you gotta pay for sometimes ...

but i guess thats with reservation at night then ...

eurotunnel is simple & fast i dont care so mutch

  • @alanheath3

also i think that like the travelling time with eurotunnel is extreme fast like only 15 minutes by train or something then ( excluding waiting for train to fill up & leaving & all when train starts to move around 15 minutes or so ) ...

so that then you get there, you pay & stuff ( not mutch waitingline to pay & all ) then you got like 10 minutes from paying to get to the train waiting time, then wait there like 5 or 10 minutes or so, then get on the train then wait there

  • @SpeedManiac1976

when your on the train wait like 5 or 10 minutes or so and then the train takes off, 15 minutes later or so your there then like waiting 5 or 10 minutes to unload, then your on the highway already and all, think whole process takes little over 1 hour or so from calais to dover ...

next time i'll check it out by night coz i know how it works with eurotunnel & all, then when i've done that check out the ferries & all but dunno & all i'll see what i like best ...

  • @SpeedManiac1976

but eurotunnel is certainly worth the money though, when you've been there & all then you say the same for sure ...

  • @SpeedManiac1976 The tunnel is more exciting for sure - the question is - is it worth the extra cost. I have only done the tunnel twice and that was before I started filming everything.

Two years ago I was going to take the tunnel. As it turned out, I opted to leave my car in Calais and go as a foot passenger.

I went to see the tunnel in 1989 or thereabouts from the French end whilst it was under construction. A pity I was not into filming then!

  • @alanheath3

i've filmed it for the le mans series in silverstone in 2009 on my other account, i'll send it as message to you shortly

for me that was the first time by car in the u.k. & all

didn't know how it worked & all, ONLY wanted to see the eurotunnel and ask for information and all that and then go to the ferries and check that out & all but before i knew it i was already in the U.K. that fast it was and easy & everything & all

some peeps suggested to go by ferry but i dunno

  • @SpeedManiac1976 As one of the most spectacular engineering projects in the world, I think the tunnel is worth seeing! Having said that, the money you will save by taking Norfolk Lines will pay for fish and chips with a can of dandelion and burdock for a month!

  • @alanheath3

yeah but who cares about money?

i care more about service and fast and easy & all that

i'll check the ferries sometime out though but i like the tunnel system better then what i see from ferry transists & all though, looks more like a huge traffic jam there and all and complicated & all ...

check my video i send you in message how easy & all it is with eurotunnel

next time i go by night with eurotunnel when i go to the uk then 3rd time then i check ferries out daytime

  • how mutch does it cost then to go by ferry if eurotunnel supposingly is expensive to you ?

i wend to silverstone by eurotunnel and man if i see the difficulty by ferry & all like you show here, long cues waitingtime etc. ... i like eurotunnel better then ...

it costed me 350 to and back with eurotunnel middle of day ( so no discount for night ) and no reservations, thats about 175 euros using it 1 way then ...

that's not so expensive ... considering that that is most expensive way ...

  • Anyone with a puerile sense of humour mind be interested in going to my channel page for my latest selection of weak jokes, puns in foreign languages and attempts to imitate Viz.

  • Nice movie ;)

    Greatings from Poland!

    p.s.

some people say, Poland is the Mexic of the Europe. I don't know what it means, but I like it.

  • How odd! Why would anyone want to drive to Poland? You do realise Poland is the shithole of Eastern Europe, full of gypsies and horse and cart, to block your car!! Poland a land of cabbage and potato!!

  • YOU ARE AN IDIOT (TOTAL) and we all know that yu are not aware of that

  • Who is "we?"

  • coltsuperocean10 - you are wrong, it isn't true about poland, you don't know about our culture, that's why you saying that. i think you are pospolity burak from Britain. głupi cieć.

  • i like this video reminds me of good times in europe, even though i prefer the overnight ferry. so thx 4 this

  • what time did you board the ferry?

  • I think it was two in the morning or maybe it was midninght.

    Norfolk Lines - the cheapest.

  • holy shit lol

  • alanheath, it was early morning.. About 2am you said... ^^

  • Yes, either that or midnight.

  • well done man well done

  • dude! this is great!

  • hey did you go to a town called sluskil its split up by a canal nice place i have relatives there

  • I have never heard of that place!

  • ah its in netherlands nevermind

  • just wondering what car you driving?

  • This is an Opel Astra estate. I normally drive a Mercedes 190D.

  • Nice videos Alan. I just drove to Katowice in 2 days, stopping off at Dortmund. I stayed for 8 weeks and came back in one long 20 hour drive.

Your vids remind me of the great time I had.

  • Thanks for the comment. Very nice to hear!

  • I'm going Belgium in June. After seeing this video, Belgium looks very cool!

  • I am glad I have given you the urge to go there!

  • Well I'm not going there for myself, I'm going for a school trip to the World War 1 Trenches.

  • tez plywam norfokline :) raz bylem 2 godziny wczesniej i wczesniej poplynolem:)

  • i tanie!

  • the english channel is a ship????????

  • No, it is the name of the sea between Britain to the west and to the east France and Belgium.

  • Was that rubbish/litter on the ground at the end of .the film in that rest stop thing your car was parked at? Where was that? In Frace, Belgium, or Poland? Thanks

  • That was a parking spot in France around 600m or so from the Belgian border.

Some of them can be very dirty, especially in France and Italy. It is as though people feel they can leave their rubbish at these places with impunity.

  • Did you use toll roads at all?

  • Yes of course! When I am in a hurry but when I must move quickly I am not filming.

You would find it very difficult to avoid them in Italy!

  • i think you could be there sooner than wednesday morning if you are keen on the autobahn

  • Of course but what is the point of racing there? I could have taken the plane and been there in 2.5 hours if I was really in a hurry!!!!

The fun is seeing things en route!

The quickest I ever did it was leaving Warsaw in the morning and getting to work in London at 11:00 the following day.

  • Heh googlemap says the journey should take 17 hours! also the journey includes passing into the netherlands. did you not do this? googlemap always shows the most efficient route ;)

  • Btw you have awesome movie taste.. 'The Bounty' hope your talking about the 1984 one !!!!!!!!

  • Yes I was. I did some research into the Bounty and have a lot of admiration for Captain Bligh - a man born before his time. The 1984 version was the most historically correct although there are mistakes in it.

  • 17 hours is ridiculous. Even if you did not need to sleep anywhere it would still mean travelling around 1,800km in 17 hours and as you will see in later films it is not all motorway.

You can go via Holland as well as the route I took which is slightly quicker. My fastest time I went via Holland.

  • Oh man i can not drive to the left!

I think i will do a crash if i would drive to the left in london

  • The worst problem is not driving on the left, the worst problem is which hand you change gears with!

  • Overall, I can assume that Poland does not have good roads/highways system. In France or Germany you don't have to enter towns or cities, if you're travelling on the highway. That's the problem in Poland - usually to get somewhere you have to go through a town or, even worse, centre of a big city. Would you agree with me, alanheath?

  • Yes that is true. The biggest problem in Poland has not been a lack of motorways but a lack of ring roads. One almost never go through towns in Western Europe - the only exception I can think of is Zurich but there are probably many others.

Fortunately the problem is being resolved in Poland with ring roads around major cities and even in Warsaw the inner ring road is almost complete although we still do not know the route of the outer road.

  • That is good :)

  • You did not show much of Britain it was short and you did not tell where you live in London. Besides you have a nice job - travelling.

  • Unfortunately it was night but I have other films here from the UK.

    I live in south London.

  • What are the names of films made of you that treat about Britain?

  • There must be nearly fifty or so. You can see all my films by clicking on the button Od użytkownika to the right of the film. Most are from places close to London but there is also Cornwall and Norfolk and I will post some films from north western Scotland.

  • Allan now I see you are used both to driving on left as it is on right. Which was more difficult for you to drive on left or on right?

  • Excellent question. The problem, I think, is not on what side of the road you are but what side of the car. When I sit in a right hand drive car, my right hand looks for the gears and of course the stick is not there! This is because we change gear without thinking.

I prefer to drive on the right side of the road but that is because I am more used to it.

  • Yay.. 3 days?!! Does in include sightseeing on the way or something? Sorry but watching all 16 videos is too much for me. Such trip takes me maximum 20 hours with 2nd driver, but I've done it alone within 18 hours once (from Northampton to Warsaw which is even longer distance). That was crazy.

  • As I say in this film, I could be there this time tomorrow - driving alone. However the objective of any journey I am involved in is to see as much as possible.

  • I didn't know that there was so much to see on the way to be honest. Nice videos anyway. And don't worry about the quality. I think it's ok. YouTube compression makes any video look bad anyway.

  • Anyone who wants to find something will always find something! Although it is not as exciting as going over the Alps or something of course! If I had the financial resources I think I would spend all my time roaming around - doing maybe 50 - 100km per day and seeing everything en route!

  • For those that like to complain about the poor quality of my films this is your chance to have some input.

My Sony Cybershot - used for all films here but one - has given up on me. I do not want to buy a video camera - just a compact camera which I can carry around in my pocket.

What camera should I buy and why?

  • must have nice drv skills!

  • I do my best!
