Do you realize that what he is saying here is absolute gold, the keys to the city. Worth more than what he says on the guitar is what he says made him the player he is today.
fuck yeah tony macalpine is way more tactful and smooth than most other guitarists what he needs to do is team up with guthrie govan and go on tour with that mother fucker
I agree! When I saw G3 a few years ago, I was wishing Tony had the third spot instead of Yngwie. Unfortunately, Tony MacAlpine isn't exactly a household name, though he deserves to be.
I think he is just enjoying what he is playing with Steve Vai.And there's nothing wrong with that when he didn't get the third spot in G3. The important is he enjoys jamming! True guitarist never always comes first.
Tmac used to play a lot of leads, harmonized and traded off, when he was in Vai's band. He was acknowledged as a serious talent in the group which Steve would always mention when introducing his band. fantastic guitar player
Tony Macalpine is the greatest. He's an awesome musician (both piano and guitar) and his ego is a fraction of what someone like Steve Vai or Yngwie's is.
Virgil donati(pro drummer who played with vai) said the same thing. For the g3 tour steve had everything going on a click track making the show identical night after night. of course he's nice to his fans. but he is cocky and very controlling when it comes to other musicians. I'm not hating on that I'm saying there is a difference between being humble to your fans and being humble to your peers. peace. I know what your saying peter. Bozzio is the man by the way!!!
I got to hang out with him and watch a soundcheck when he was in Vancouver. While I love his playing and dedication I could NEVER work for him. It was almost uncomfortable to watch him work. CONTROL FREAK and I think he may have some OCD thrown in as well.
yeah when some guys get to this level thats what happens. all they care about is their instrument and their music. At the same time, soundcheck is there for a reason and good musicians will work out all potential problems during this time. so soundcheck can be a little painful, especially for the sound guy. But, if it makes the concert better then who cares? Did you see the show? If so who was he playing with and how did that go?
True. It was a bit much cause he worked for an hour and a half on one section of one tune that they had been playing for 4 months already. I did see the show. It was for the sound theories tour so Dave was on guitar and he had the violin players with him tooand Jeremy on drums. Great show.
Classic! And being interviewed by Jon Sutherland!

He's the Rodney Mullen of guitarists. True guitarists know who the king is, and it's Tony Macalpine.

Yeah. Tony should definetly get his own spot at G3. He's more than worthy

Well, you must have been lucky, cuz Macalpine was a rythm guitarist for Steve Vai.
Shows how much the G3 audience wants Macalpine to be a lead G3 player.
