  • such a hippie song. i love it |:)

  • happiness doesn't run for 8 people

  • God damn, I said god damn.

  • While the motion of happiness may appear to be circular, further study has proven that it is actually elliptical, in accordance with Kepler's Law.

  • indeed it does...and will if you let it run thru you

  • just relax and listen to this. then everything is okay...

  • I remember listening to this album in 8 track form as a child in the '90s. "I Love My Shirt" was my family's favorite.

Thanks for sharing his sweet song.

  • Someone posted a video with swingsets and throwing a pebble and stuff. What happened to it?

  • this song was made my schools secret song to make us a little more special. I LOVE THIS SONG. it brings back all the good times

  • Naturally I'm very cynical. However I came across this song and it almost brought me to tears thinking about well, everything. Idk what it is but this song struck a chord with me. It is the catalyst in what I think of as a life changing moment. I try not to be an ass and when I am mad or sad I think of the quote "You can have anything if you let yourself be". Each line in the song really means a lot to me. each sentence has it's own world of values to me.

  • so happy to hear this song again, just felt the craving for it & I only have on LP

  • When my grand grand mother died last year, I was very sad until I discovered this beautiful song. It makes me think of all the happiness she gave to everybody. Love you :)

  • @misssmiley33390 Godbless but honestly its a great grand mother not grand grand mother ;)

  • @ThePsychedelicStudio Thank you :)

  • Six people don't know about being happy...tsk tsk tsk

  • From late 1967 until I was drafted (Vietnam) in February 1969 I dated the love of my life (Kathy). During that time I probably sent her 100, or more, cards and with each and every one of the envelopes I drew a continuing circle that kept revolving with a single arrow leading the way until the circle reached the center. Below it I always wrote the same words, "happiness runs in a circular motion."

  • i learned this song in kids

    church choir circa 1987

  • i had this stuck in my head from the cheerios commercial... good stuff

  • Not gonna lie, Fruity Cheerios was the origin of this song for me too...

  • Happy 65th Birthday Donovan-

  • oh wow... i just twirled in a circle with my arms out to this song. and it was awesome. but now im so dizzy that my happiness is still running in a circular motion....haha

  • @Babyhowdy233 : In the words of Marshall McCluhan "The media is the massage." Your reply illustrates either your lack of reading, or forgetfulness, or your being born after 1967 and not examining the culture of the '60s-'70s. Anyway, in the words of a 14 year old girl I once knew : "Whatever." Donovan's worst song : I Love My Shirt.; best (maybe) Sand and Foam. Rock on.

  • this song is made of rainbows, fairy cakes and bunny rabbits.

  • @monogirl3

and also that mystical, indefinable stuff that the angels arise from, it is sheer MAGIC! :D

  • you can have everything if you let your self be... so true

  • amo la musica de donovan

  • @TheSuperkike27 yo asi

  • Cheerios..... lol *apologizes for being young*

  • @nickwalco lol I heard it in a american car commercial, i think GM ...anyways I am now a huge fan of Donovans

  • Mary Hopkins does a lovely version of this.

  • I love Donovan! He always has a good massage in almost every song. Why-o Because, Why-o because! He's is awsome! These days you just don't get calm, simple songs like his.

  • @arhatyellow

I personally would LOVE to get a good massage from Donovan! :P

Oh, you mean MESSAGE, yes, he gives a wonderful message too! :D

  • I love Donovan! He always has a good massage in almost every song. Why-o Because, Why-o because! He's is awsome

  • Aint this a great song-did he ever do this live--happy ness runs--great job donavan,,

iam done running but think iam not so happy--but the song makes me Happy.

  • Amazing song.. you just can't not be happy while listening to this.

  • cherios?:p

  • So...happiness is the runs?

  • oh my god i LOVE IT

  • If you first heard this on a Cherrios commerical it tells your age:). I remember the original and I had the album. I love this song.

  • Little pebble upon the sand Now you're lying here in my handHow many yearshave you been here?

Little human upon the sand From where I'm lying here in your handYou to me are but a passing breeze

The sun will always shine where you standDepending in which landYou may find yourselfNow you have my blessing, go your way

Happiness runs in a circular motionThought is like a little boat upon the sea

Everybody is a part of everything anywayYou can have everything if you let yourself

    Happiness runs

  • i did this song in my concert in chaffe school today it is my favorate

    ~ george

  • Never heard this one.....very nice, kinda Syd Barrett meets Cat Stevens

  • happy I amz now!

  • this is one of the best songs i have ever heard

  • who are the four crazies who disliked this? I demand blood!

  • I also heard this on a cheerios commercial and I searched it up and fell in love with this song!!!!!

  • My Song In My School

  • its like a hippie song but soo much better

  • This song always makes me happy when I'm not having a good day. Thanks for brightening my day!

  • such an amazing song.

  • thank youuuuuu cheerios commercial

  • Google "Donovan Unofficial"

    What a great site!

  • 0:52 :) So lovely, this song is just purely amazing.

  • Who are the backing singers on this song?

  • I love this. SO MUCH.

  • This is one of my all time favorite albums and thus song today just sets all of my worries free. Donovans ballads are much like nursery rhymes for the childlike soul within.

  • I like to get extra high and just close my eyes and let this beat take me away :D

  • Hey, I remember watching an episode of the Wonder Years and this song would have gone perfect with the scene where Laurie was with her friends by the lake. Someone was swinging on the tire while others were jumping into the water. She took her brother Kevin along on a skip day. That would have been so cool. I wish we could have that back.

  • Hey. of course they are and yours are so much better. It should be you with all the fame and woemn but insted it's him. Foled again I guess but at least you have this Donavan tune to enjoy.

  • How wonderful. This is new to us and it's a beautiful song. Thank you for uploading this. Bright stars and warm hugs..Jan and Susan ♥

  • ty 12 for sendin this to me & ty sbjhehe for postin it :)..nice lil trip back in time to gentler days--rainy summer afternoon, flopped on a blue 'bean bag' hangin with a friend & listenin to this album...sweet times

  • Sticks in the head allright. He was thinking of a mantra going round and round when he sang "happiness runs". Works just fine. (I'm feeling better already) Shame there's no place on commercial radio for this kind of music today - there's certainly a crying need for it.

  • About the jibberish, lyrics generally are static telling one story. Dylan's are more like abstract painting, i.e., open to interpretation. Several are stories (try Tangled up in Blue). His musical stylings are a blend of folk, country, blue grass and rock - and were quite clever; blending standard with original style.

Anyway, wouldn't it be boring if we all fit in ticky tacky boxes. "

"i like bob dylan but " ...well his technique worked on you. :)

  • dylan is a freaking genius. but so does this fellow i just found.

  • I agree, Donovan was pretty fantastic too. Just don't think he was quite the schizophrenic that Dylan was. :)

  • i first heard this from my dad. he helped donovan write this in india 1968 with the beatles. he wrote the part with " little peble upon the sand".

  • Really?

  • @limatedman ya

  • @marylovesthebeatles Can I meet your dad? He sounds pretty awesome... He doesn't happen to live near Chicago, does he?

  • @marylovesthebeatles So either your dad was a Beatle, or a Beach Boy

  • Donovan sings for the kids in us, while Dylan shoots more for the jugular.

  • Hey, this is such a cute song. You know, every time I hear it I can imagine a doggie running in a circle. (Like trying to chase a car but losing track lol.) I can then see said dog and young child chasing a butterfly on a warm summer's day. Just the fun and innocence of life.

  • wow i had this song stuck in my head from the commercial... i didnt know the full song would be so good!

  • Very nice. Love Donovan.

  • coool

  • loved it!

  • I was really sad there untill i remembered this song from my childhood and i was so happy to find it. Thanks alot for posting this it really made my day :)

  • something about this song that makes me smile. Don't really know what it is I just love it.

  • When ever im sad, im going to listen to this, its Brilliant

  • i hetedthis video

  • louisp187........why????????????

  • i didn't write this. actually quite like it....

    Must have been a friend.

  • one of my all time fav donovan tracks

  • One of my favorite songs, and my favorite Donovan song.

  • "You can have everything if you let your self be..." Beautiful!

  • Ummm...it's the best song ever.

  • Didnt Cat stevens also do a version of this?

  • not to my knowledge

  • how come it's recorded so low? ;/ well anyways beautiful and catchy song. Thankyou for posting. :)

  • this song makes me happy =]

  • the first verse seems like another song

  • it was, they were originally 2 songs "The Pebble and the Man" and "Happiness Runs" but neither felt complete until they had each other.

  • i like the way you phrased that, it sounds romantic

  • i love the chorus, its like catchy x)

  • who's catchy?

how can he be similar to a song..im curious

  • now that was rather scathing.

    but I commend the wittiness

  • oh i ment catchy like...

as in its very nice, and has good rythm. i didnt mean it to direct onto somone x)

    sorry

  • ....haha you got me x)

    nice one!

  • I'm curious too, not by the song, but about your question camojoe3. WHAT THE FUCK? What do you mean by who's catchy? and the second question of "how can he be similar to a song" what are you asking? I'm so confused by you Camojoe

  • lol like is a simile

e.x."he is like 28 years old"

The intention is to say his age is 28 years old but the literal meaning when like is inserted would be he is similar to 28 years old, which would make 28 years old have to be a noun of some sort

  • are you retarded?

  • I love this song...

  • i listen to this song before football games to get pumped up

  • L-o-l.

  • @etb815 HYSTERICAL on FF ! I want to hear of some Death Metal band covering this

  • @etb815

    hahaha

  • iheard it on cheeriose commercial

  • I was tripping last night and ive had this song on my playlist forever, but never got into it while sober....holy shit though, what a calm and soothing song it is.

  • what's ur problem

  • they fuckin did take on me?

what the fuck that is fucked up that pisses me off that song is well way amazing now that the fuckin jonas faggots did it

  • FUCK YOU you homophobic dumbass. Learn what grammer is so you don't sound like a total fucking idiot, to understand what I mean read your sentence out loud and see if it makes any sense whatsoever. You know what never mind you have the cricket sound going off in your head so you would have no idea why it's jibber jabber

  • totally great song. isnt graham nash on it?

  • don't you just love the soothing voice in the beginning...makes me crazy

  • Agreed!

  • what a groovy beat

  • Donovan is my hero.

  • love the words. and well.. everything about this song actually.

  • Just like Target with "Hello Goodbye", Cheerioes just raped the hell out of a good song just to sell their product. It happens all of the time with artists who are no longer able to defend their great works.

  • Word. This is why we want to murder the Jonas Brothers...

  • pretty.

  • ya man groovy

  • great song. too bad they didn't make a more relevent video besides that stupid cheerios commercial. sorry if i offended fans of that commercial. i just like the song, not the vid.

  • this is very....awesome

  • Sod commercials and cheerios lol great spiritual song by Donovan.

  • what year was this video launched?

  • not sure, but wikipedia should be able to tell u, if u care enough to search it

  • haha I have no idea why i like this song haha but i do makes ya wanna eat cereal.

  • i also this song on the fruity cheerios commercial..and it evoked such a sweet innocent memory. its adorable. thanks for posting!
