Maybe they originally intended to have this song in the game, but never actually used it on one of the levels, so it was left in the game's code, but not actually listenable-to by regular methods?

...yea it does :P the SMB1 - extra and the SMB2 - stage 9 'stage themes' (dunno what else to call them lol) are used for the extra stages in deluxe... in beginner anwyays :P
