Wow, bitter sweet memories of years behind come flooding back. An age old Christmas favorite tune, my old man would be on the turntable getting the LP's out. Happy days... R.I.P Dad x
Brilliant song. I was a teenager in the good ol 70's and had this on 12 inch vinyl. What happened to this style of reggae? I guess it disappeared from favour as rap and hip hop took over. Bob Marly, Peter Tosh, Third World, Black Slate, Dennis Brown to name a few all had some great reggae hits around this time.
"This style of Reggae" is known as Lovers Rock and it was exclusively made in the UK (mostly in Harlesden North London IIRC) in the late 70s, early 80s. It was very much a local, independent style that unexpectedly spawned some huge worldwide hits.
well remember seeing this on xmas top of the pops while eating our xmas dinner ....and my dear dad being there and actually liked it too....R.I.P dad x....and thanks for the memory...
This still sends shivers down my spine... great memories... and my theory that if you don't sell sex, you have to make really good tracks, is hereby once more proven!
I think I first got into reggae from this song. Back in my school days years and years ago. Anyone who likes this really should listen to the 12" version of this song. Bliss.
What a class piece of reggae this is, one of those tunes that everybody loves, don't think she had another hit apart from this re-issued, could be wrong, it's been a long time.
She done some really great songs but.....this was the only one that received chart success, She did a cracking version of Minnie Ripertons "Lovin' You" Cheers Steve
nostalgia head on here too :) my auntie and her tape recorder and mic recording TOTP
