  • I just want to know if this works on an American DS? Also, does it indeed go all the way up to Kanji Kentei (Kanken) Level 1 with 6,000 kanji?

  • hey japan shop I love this game but whenever I write the hiragana for "mi" it gives me o or something else. any tips?

  • Hi. I`ve noticed that there are 2 pieces of software for which the packaging and titles are very similar: (1) the above "250 Mannin no Kanken" and (2) Kanji Kanken 3.

Are they completely different? Worth getting both?

    Thanks!

  • It`s okay... I`ve had a look into it and they seem completely different, from different companies. Will be getting the 250/premium edition of this...talk about powerful learning tools!

  • What exactly do you mean by begners?

    Less than a year?

    Less than a semster?

    Less than a month?

    Nothing at all?

Because althoug I consider myself a beggner, it is relative. I alrady know about 50 kanjis, and am studing for about 6 mounths now. Am I still a begner on your standarts?

  • You should be able to get a lot out of this software, but I think the more kanji you know (several hundred at least), the more useful it will become.

  • study a grade level at a time. first learn to read the level and then to write it and use flashcards to do it. review as you go.

if you put in 16 hours a day with breaks that should be about a grade level a week.

  • I'm wondering if this game prepares you for the Kanji Kentei test aswell. I'm playing Kanken DS 3 which is specifically for the Kentei test but I'm wondering if this will tell you the reading for kanji. The only use I can see this for is to practice the stroke order of the kanji.

  • i noticed how you turned the ds on its side and wrote with your right hand. is it reversible? for left-handers?

  • You sure can. Once you create an account, go to settings, and the right-left selection is at the top.

  • whats the difference between the one that says "200" and the one that says "250"? is it just a newer version? cus the 250 game is cheaper...

  • Yes, the 250 is the newer version.

  • How many kanji can we find in the game ? Only 200 ? If so, it's not that interesting.

  • The title means 2,000,000 people not 200 kanji. (Man meaning 10,000). I believe it covers up to pre-1st grade (for the kanken) which I think is all 1945 Joyo kanji.

  • Thanks for the answer. Now I NEED this game.

  • actually, just so you're aware, the game has 10 levels, but levels 1 and 2 are divided into pre-1/1 and pre-2/2. so there are 12 levels basically, 10 being the easiest.

pre-2 has all of the jouyou kanji [1945], then there are three more levels after that [2, pre-1, and 1]

level 1 [the highest] actually brings the game total to 6000 kanji. but i don't think the average japanese person would care to know that many :/

  • I found Otona no Kanji perfect for the beginners of non-Japanese origin.

It contains 2261 Kanjis. And games are quite intresting along with nigate practice (Kanjis you are weak in), teaching mode and quiz modes.

  • please does anyone know a game i can learn japanese basically from the beginning for the nintendo ds.

i can't read kanji, hiragana or katakana. only japanese sentances written in english [romanji?]

i think it would be really helpful as it has voice recognition and i could draw out the letters and know it's right. if anyone knows please just click reply...please

  • No, I don't think there is anything out there for beginners since the target audience is the native Japanese speaker.

Nitpick Note: Romanization is called romaji (without the 'n') and it isn't English.

  • Yet again, the Japan Shop has been a very helpful channel to find reviews on this kind of stuff. I was thinking of buying this game, but I think Kanji Sonomama will be best for me. I am learning Japanese and plan to take Level 4 on the JLPT :)

  • where can I buy this? I'm doing japanese 3rd year in college and this would be super useful!

  • Thanks for the video, nice to see this in action before while I consider purchasing it. Anyone know if it enforces proper stroke order, and if so, can it be turned off?

    Thanks

  • It is pretty forgiving. Actually with some of the kanji I write I am amazed when it gets it right!

  • I forgot to mention one helpful setting. You can turn off the automatic submission to make it so you have to press the 'kettei' button. That way you don't have to finish a kanji in under 2 seconds.

  • Oh, that's nice. :) I'm really excited to get this game! I love learning kanji and I want to know as many as possible before I go to study in Japan next year.

  • Thanks for posting this review! I really want this software-it looks like a lot of fun. :)

  • Thanks! I've tried 5 different DS kanji training software and I like this one the best. If you want to beef up your writing ability, this may be about the best thing out there.
