This whole film is like a bad acid trip. And it has the exact same ending as the first Nightmare on Elm Street. Which, when taking into account the era in which it was made, is completely okay with me. The coolness of the "Danger Ball" makes up for everything. In fact the Ball was way under-utilized in the this movie.

actually in retrospect, Nightmare stole the ending to this flick. Both still rock, though Nightmare was still terrifying as an adult. I'm not sure but I think "Invaders from Mars" ends in a similar fashion. I'm gonna check if anyone put that on the tube.

Awesome movie! They dont make shit like this ne more. @ Basshunter .... Mike was having a " dream" apparently. Dreams don't ever make sense. So of course he could attach a bullet to a hammer n break a door down. Word up son !!!

@basshunter477 Oh Basshunter, "Phantasm" refers to: any Illusion. Apparitional experience, Hallucination or Ghost. What did you think this movie was going to be about ?

@basshunter477 The fortune teller told mike that if he didn't fear, everything would be fine. She said this because she knew of the tall man(in phantasm 4, it says she used to be his wife when he was turned human). If Mike is scared enough of the tall man, the tall man can warp his reality(change his world). In the end, the tall man has won. I highly recommend the sequels to this movie. They're fantastic.

@pengzuelao Of course you can: Young Mike stumbles upon a mortician, Tall Man, who is secretly turning dead bodies into dwarf slaves to work in another dimension for... some reason. But Tall Man also turns into a woman in lavender to kill horny men and acquire more slaves. Does he have to have sex with the guy as the woman in order to kill them? No. But that's no reason to keep Tall Man from having some fun! Also Mike's older brother tries make him stay somewhere every 5 minutes.

This is one of the most under-rated horror films of all time, and it's one of my favorite. The sequels wereen't bad, but none of them matched the original.
