Sergeant Mackenzie was one of 147,609 Scots who died fighting in WW1 and That doesn't even include those Scots who signed up for service while living outside Scotland. One of the things that has made the British Army so good is the inter-regimental rivalry particularly from the different nations of the UK. We will take the pee out of each other but anyone outside the UK who does that has to take us all on!!! That's when we become British. I was born in England but served many years in a Highland regiment - the proudest warrior race and finest soldiers in the world bar none!

That's weird. My grandfather was an RSM at El Alamein (don't know the regiment) and he never spoke about it either. I think it might have been shame/denial or something. I only found out about my grandfather getting loads of medals and stuff many years. maybe its a scottish thing.

This is an realy nice memorial my great grandfather whas 1 of the Cameron highlanders at WW1 he survived 4 years of it he never felt hame when he returnednin normal life after the war. His only survived friend enden up in an shell shock.

This is pretty emotional for me i realy love it thanks for the bonnie movie!

WWII - Scots soldiers are 1/3 of total UK casualties.

51st Highlanders left behind in Dunkirk. Churchill later admitted that they needn't have been left behind, and their purpose was to back a French force which never materialised.

Scots soldiers should defend their country, not do England and America's dirty work. Cannon fodder no more!
